the reason for the fight is this: the prince spreads false rumors about buliwyf wants the throne, and the redhead is a servant to the prince which is why they use him as a example to the prince, and the throwing mud thing is to provoke a fight. i have this movie on VHS and i have seen it at least 50 times.

see the hole movie and you will understand everything better

The King's son, Prince Wyglif, coveted his father's throne and saw Buliwyf as possible threat to his position when his father showed favor and hospitality to Buliwyf. Motivated by jealousy and envy, Prince Wyglif began spreading false rumors that Buliwyf was conspiring to kill the King and take the throne for himself. The girl who likes the Arab relates this news to him and the Arab in turn informs Buliwyf and Hargar of what he was told. This is why they 'make an example' in the next scene.
