  • What type of adhesive should I apply to the mounting plate?

  • I did this repair and noticed some, non-salvagable, rubber pieces on the click wheel. When I put it all back together, it fit quite tight and the menu button does not work and the center button has pressure on it (from the tight fit), making it seem in the constant pressed position without actually being depressed or down. I tried the clear method of pressing the menu and center button together and nothing happens. Is this because those rubber pieces are missing? Any insight would be appreciated

  • @SSEmb I figured out what went wrong. The center button has plastic "nipples" on the back. These need to be lined up with the holes in the metal back plate or you will get the results I described above. Works great now, thanks.

  • Awesome lol now I can fix a iPod or change the case lol sinscribe to me and them 8D

  • I wish to report one mistake i your video in 1:29s. You must first unscrew little screw below the headphone jack and AFTER that pool up metal bracket. In your video is vice versa.

  • Is replacing an ipod nano 4th generation click wheel the same thing? Or should I do anything different?

  • @TechGrapple The 4th generation is very different from the 2nd generation. Please use a video for the 4th generation, which we do have posted under our account. There are certain similarities but the ribbon cables are going to be the major difference, and since they are so thin you would not want to tear them.

  • HELP. someone message me, im at the "pull up the metal bracket around the usb port" and it just wont come off around the ribbon area. but i felt the ribbon pop. so im confused.

  • @JohnnyDeppIsMyBoo the bracket around the USB port may be dirty though I would assume there is still a screw installed and that is why it will not come out. Follow the metal bracket to ensure that all screws are removed, even the one below the headphone jack (inside). Generally this will come out with very little pressure needed, though if you have dents or dings (or the port is dirty) then it makes the process a bit harder. I do apologize that we had not responded earlier, hope this helps.

  • Just fixed mine. Your vid helped a lot. Thanks for posting

  • @mlabre01 Glad we could help!

  • I need to find a replacement top bezel for my nano 2g, any ideas??

  • @pattyaaron I'm sorry but we do not stock the bezels for the Nano 2, 4 or 5. Other than purchasing a used device for parts or maybe a electronics hobby shop or swap meet for electronics device; I would not be certain on a retailer that stocks those bezels.

  • @pattyaaron Same here i need one.

Although, my top part is dented for the case how can i fix it?? Because the top left and right corners are dented in a bit... If i would change the case how much is it?

I would want a case and a top bezel plastic piece.

I'm sure this costs more than is needed... -.- for the money i am willing to spend.

  • where can i get a new metal button for themiddle?.. i need a new one i lost mine :/

  • @MOB8ITS3MY1JOB We have the ribbon cable that adheres to the backside of the click wheel. On this ribbon cable you have the four buttons plus the center button as well as the headphone jack. They are all part of the same piece. We do not have the "metal" part, which is the part of the click wheel with the Play/Pause, FFWD, RRWD and Menu written on it. This is, I believe, what you are speaking of; unfortunately we do not stock that item.

  • @DigiExpress no not the ribbon cable the plastic circle that goes on top otf it cus i lost mine :/

  • hey can any 1 help me when i plug in my headphones it plays both the ipod build in speaker and the headphone help???

  • @MrPhatboi100 The issue you are experiencing could be due to the Headphone jack not communicating with the device, which would allow it to know when the headphones are plugged in or not. If there has been any water damage to the device it may be a different issue entirely. I would focus on the heapdhone jack first though. • my ipod is not work the menu and anyone so wat i can do

  • @abbyleticia374 you may need to replace the click wheel with a new part, though there could be other issues if your device has any waster or moisture damage. We list all the available parts for the iPod Nano on our website.

  • my ipod is not work is on but whend i press menu and any one is not work

  • okay i dropped my ipod and the sound doesnt come out right anymore, if i change the wheel clicker/headphone jack will it fix the problem.

  • @TheAnitrix If you are having issues with the headphone jack then replacing the affected part is usually the fix. In dropping the device you may have damaged other parts that are seemingly not related to the headphone jack, i.e. Logic Board or Main Electronics Board. If you were to replace the headphone jack with a new one and the problem still persists than you would know for certain that your device has an issue with the logic board.

  • I think that the play button on my ipod is broke... the clickwheel itself works but that single button have to be pressed several times to work. Could i replace that as well?

  • @ioRgraffiti in replacing the clickwheel it would include the entire assembly. So if one button is not functioning you would need to replace the entire clickwheel. Though, when disassembling the device you may find an obvious issue that would be causing the malfunction.

  • My center button on my iPod Nano 2nd Gen. doesn't work, is there any way this can be fixed without having to open up the iPod?

  • @iluvharrydraco There are tips for common software problems on Apple's product support page, though if it is not a software issue you still have to disassemble the iPod. You can also send us your iPod, it would be $25 for our diagnosis and repair service. Any parts that are needed are additional. Check out our website for more information.

  • @iluvharrydraco Unfortunately the nano would have to be disassembled to gain access to the necessary parts.

  • i mean it wont turn on, the screen wont turn on

  • hi. my hold switch broke off when i was repairing it the wire just got bent and it fell by itself can it be replaced? because when i plug in my ipod to the computer it stick shows up but the screen doesnt turn off

  • @Somcana101 You can send us your iPod, it would be $25 for our diagnosis and repair service. Any parts that are needed are additional. Check out our website for more information.

  • i recently did this to have an my old nano to work again. the part worked great but the clickwheel does feel looser (the plastic exterior wheel that you actually touch). could this be due to the new part, or is the mounting plate just not seated in all the way? and i could use some new adhesive for the top and bottom bezels, what should i look for? just in case i need to do more repairs i dont want to super glue this thing back together, lol.

  • Very well videos)) Thanks))

  • owke how many people try this and broke there ipod:P

  • Just broke my ipod shity vid

  • Worthless tutorial. The video makes no mention of the head phone jack ribbon being practically glued onto the inside of the case. You need an exacto blade slid between the two in order to carefully dislodge the ribbon, or risk serious damage. he make it sound like a walk in the park.

  • For some reason when I have the clickwheel out the buttons click fine but as soon as i put in the logic board assembly its stiff, and wont click....im not sure why but do you know how to solve this?

  • @xbigdaddybx

With this specific install the clickwheel needs to be seating almost perfectly in order for the front of the clickwheel to properly depress the buttons on the cable behind it. When you are reattaching the metal plate backing to the new clickwheel cable, you may find that it has not been seated properly. If the casing to the iPod itself is damaged or "dinged" it could cause an issue as well.

  • i did this and the usb drive was stuck to the nano so i got stuck and frustrated and i got cut and now i gave up and lots of stuff is bent so FML :( at least I have an itouch :) the nano is my sister's by thee way

  • i almost did the same thing... anyone else with this problem you NEED to remove the screw under the headphone jack in order to remove the metal usb plate

  • you need to make another video on how to replace the click wheel on an iPod Nano 2nd Generation for the other kind of iPod Nano 2G because on the other Nano it has the Audio Jack and the Click Wheel running through the same ribbon so the connection plug doesnt go in from the ribbon directly it has this little chip piece that snaps into another piece in the logic board thats very easy to see and undo The Model number to the iPod Nano 2G that I am talking about is A1199.

    But the video heplful

  • @tutorial2009 Thank you for your suggestion.

  • can you replace the click wheel with a different color to mix and match parts?

  • @MAXurMAC

No, the click wheel plastics (color) are part of the case. When you change the click wheel, you are only changing the electronics behind the wheel.

  • wat kind of adhesive would i need to use

  • @lezdi07

I would check to make sure you connected the click wheel ribbon cable correctly. It may not be connected securely.

  • @DigiExpress This happened to me too, after replacing the screen.

Everything works except the click wheel, and i took apart my other nano and tried connecting that click wheel and it works, so im guessing i just have to buy another click wheel for the broken one? and yeah the ribbon cable is connected properly, and like i said, it works fine with the clickwheel off another ipod. thanks

  • Comment removed

  • what?????

  • Yes, the headphone jack and hold switch are part of the click wheel ribbon on this model. You will need a new one.

  • I cant concentrate with that music playing

  • i know, me neither

  • watch?v=EpLp17Kmp_Q

Nice video wonder how you guys figured that out!

  • I did not understand how you remove the click wheel. where I have to force with the screwdriver?

  • Is replaceing the 3rd gen Nano's click wheel about the same has replacing the nano 1st gen. click wheel?

  • No, they are very different. The Nano 3G are much more difficult to work on because of the case.

  • I have a question, wen installing a battery in my iPod 4th gen Mono, i accidentally snipped the ribbon cable for the click wheel, all i need to fix it is the metal backplate, can you sell me just that?

  • We sell the entire assembly of the click wheel for the 4G for $24.99. We do not sell each part separately. It would be a good idea to replace the entire click wheel.

  • i gto about mine.

    i have ipod 5th generation.and

can i replace click wheel with 4th generation?=/

  • No, you need a 5th gen click wheel, they are different.

if you have an ipod 3rd generation and the click wheel is messed up can you switch the click wheel with an ipod nano 1st generation click wheel

    will it work?

  • No, they are different.

  • nice video,

the top cap of my nano actually fell out on its own after about two years. i guess because the sound jack is on the opposite corner, every time it fell, the corner with the hold button always landed first, so eventually the aluminium dented to the point that the cap fell out :S annoying... It seems they used glue to first hold it in.. I guess I can do that too :P

  • this shit is not eazy i would wine up breaking my shit yall wiling

  • thank you for posting!!!!!!!!!!!
