His goal was to maximize profits, yeah he did take over several mom and pop shops, but every shop who decided to hop along the ban wagon got paid. The stubborn ones got left behind.

@nettlesm25 Just in case you didn't know, people used to build puppet companies just to get Mr.Rockefeller's money. Buying out is 100% voluntary and he never, at any point in his life owned 100% of the refining business, i'm surprised this video claims 95% ownership ( i would have to look at the metrics used) but nonetheless he clearly didn't have the money to buy everyone out. Sides, the laws that prevent this practice today are completely ad hoc and actually destroys wealth in many ways.
