@AwakeningtoMe : AMEN to that. I'm 58, worked from Oct. thru Dec. this year for a 47 year-old sociopathic narcissist. Job was at an "antique" mostly fake junk store which is a thinly veiled cover for her terminal hoarding disease (she has 6 huge storage lockers (that are each big enough for three automobiles) where she keeps most of her stuff). It was all I could do, every time I worked, to not mockingly ask her, "Channeling your queen bee status from 8th grade? How's that working for you?"
The biggest bitches Ive ever met and worked with have been the know it all sluts in there 20's and 30's. Hope they die from a brain bleed and do the world a favour.
I am forty two years old and remember the days of the mid-eighties when the workplace wasnt so female dominated, there was a mixture of sexes. Christ!! What a difference! There was conflict but not much and both sexes got along. They went down the pub, they worked as a team. Not nowadays. Female lower management are a nightmare. Especially when in their twenties and have something to prove.
The problem is they take things personally and make things personal.
I had a female supervisor when I was working in a at-risk youth residential placement facility, her name was Tasha Wardell. She was jealous of me because I was skinny and light-skinned and she was obese and dark-skinned. She always made indirect comments about light-skinned people and she would give me dirty looks. The girls would make comments about me being light-skinned and this fat bitch wouldn't tell them to stop. It's like she wanted them to say what she couldn't say because of work.
@mercyhurstchic Dear Mercy: I think you are over emotional about the kids calling you names. It is good advise to think about the feels of others, too. Your supervisor is human and the children are human. You know more than those kids. Why not teach them not to be a copycat. The video howdini tells excellent ways to talk out your feelings. Do not keep it to yourself, EXPRESS it! Maybe it is something your supervisor can fix.
Once worked for a mean, man hating, masculine lesbian boss. Had she been a man, I would have beat the crap out of her.(100%) Got so bad I considered a capital crime, but lucky for me I left before I went through with my idea.
Get out - the corporation endorses it. She set me in a room to get my butt chewed out this morning...they were not interested in dialogue, reasons, my side...they were there to 'get me to fall in line.'
She's been doing this for over 10 years...every person who has worked for her and left our department has done so because of HER. She has had everyone in tears (mostly women) at one point or another. The rest have chosen to be fake. that seems to be my only option until I can find a job.
Every Single Person who has ever worked for her has had the exact same problems!!
Confrontation only causes character assassination...and she's damn good. She provokes, then when you stand up to her, she plays victim, goes crying to her boss, and puts your job in jeopardy...who stands behind her...nobody wants to listen to the front line worker.
Tell her to shut her mouth and get on her knees.!!
Or get back in the kitchen where Women Belong. No just kidding in all honesty i have never been bullied by a woman at work i try my heardest to get on the better side of them no matter if its working hard or Flirting with them. If a woman thinks your interested in her sexually she won't bully you.
@RaverSharp You know why? These types use sexuality as a control tactic. They think that they are controlling you with their sexuality / flirting. My supervisor is a sickening flirt / coy around men who have power over her - colleagues, she treats like shit.
Being bullied by aggressive controlling women at work happens all too frequently. I am ashamed to admit that I have been a victim of this appalling behaviour for the last 10 years.
Interesting that I am a man....and they work for me...supposedly :-/
the way to deal w/ a female boss is to get a job consulting on how to deal w/ a female boss. in my experience most women and men complain about female leadership than male leadership just as most personality conflicts involve at least one woman. two women talking about what they "felt" about a situation . . . a road leading to nowhere fast.
I (a male) got out of college 2 years ago and work exclusively with women in authority. Oh it was hell, but I smiled, IGNORED the little barbs, and even baught them coffie, & breakfast without them asking. The most powerful thing a male can do to a woman is ignore her, in this case ignore the bullying and don't flinch. Implimented Non Work Related Silent Treatment along with a Can-Do Attitude and 6 months later she became a sweet person to me. I'm a male so I don't know what a woman should do.
@dog453679 Yes, a bully does not discriminate who they will humiliate sexually, and we are all open to sexual humilation by exposure and ridicule, in that we are all human.
@jesusfreak1975 Bullying is very difficult, a modern day horror. I work with lots of great people, women included, and it doesn't do ever to insult women either, more effective language is needed, and judgement. A man would be instantly derided if bad words were used to a woman, but it is not always a two way understanding, hence my traumatic experience of manipulative homophobic comments. It's passive aggressive behaviour.
@jtaellio11 yeah i hear you fella. its really bad. i had a form of this and caused me to leave my job and this was at a very large company. it wasnt really severe but this particular woman felt threatened by me and was not my manager but the line manager for the workflow. I was on contract so drafted in to help them with these particular projects which made her behavior more surprising. There was manipulation involved withholding key info and giving negative feedback to our director...
Okay, you got an advice for women who confront female bully bosses. But my question for you is this: What if a guy like me, were to have a "mean girl boss" in the workplace who makes life miserable for him, do those advices you gave to women employees can also work for men as well?
@dog453679 Yes, women bullies, ironically can be the worst. I must admit, I have had more trouble with bullying from women than males, ever. There can be some great people, female, but unfortunately when they are bullies they are an absolute nightmare. A good book I read was by Eric Berne from the 1960's, a classic called 'Games People Play'. It outlined females who play psychological rape games to varying degrees, a favourite ploy which I suffered from as a gay male.
@dog453679 well with females we need more positive feedback, whilst trying to say nicely that you are being a b***h, compared to males i find when they are the boss, in my experience, were humurous and well a lot more capable of not being TOO emotional when there is conflict, which females, like myself, tend to drag on and on...and gets NOWHERE!so..with confronting with a female boss i find that, depending on the sitz,is best to try and not make her 'feel' attacked cause then she will FIREUP....
FYI - if you're a female looking for a job & your interviewer is "less" good looking than you, or views you as a threat...guess what? Your interview is over. However, she'll let you continue filling out useless paperwork and taking tests for a job she has no intention of giving you just "because"....so she grin & laugh on her drive home.
I've worked in the corp world for 22yrs, while most of you were embreyo's...some behaviors just never change. Female bosses R always nice to non-female hires
Funny...you NEVER hear about these 3rd grade sit downs with your male bosses. This is unbelievably unprofessional & immature for grown adults working in a corporate environment. This nonsense should be left in the ladies room, not the board room. Better yet, it should've been outgrown by age 13, not 68. Pathetic.
Reality = Out of ALL Fortune 500 Companies, only 6 Female CEO's. Guess which Fortune 500 Companies ranked in the bottom 3%?!? Yep....the female led companies.
Women are immoral. They hate each other. They don't go to work for work, they go for gossip & attention. If another female is hired, instead of focusing on work, they focus on how they can destroy her. Female bosses R the worst. you can't give women power, they go crazy with power.
This is not my opinion, but reality. If you want to argue, then you're arguing w/reality. You're arguing the fact that its not politically correct..aka, I'm not bullshitting you enough to keep you from feeling bad
First thing you need to realize is you can't complain to anyone in the office or Human Resources (management working for management) -- they are likely friendly with your dragon lady boss. First thing you need to do ... get your resume in order and get out while you still have a modicum of dignity and self worth.
I was finally get out of a job where myself and 2 others where bullied by a boss. Now I'm in a new job and can you believe there's another one! WTF! This is not normal only with this one, she's only hates me!
"How women show power over each other." Get that guys? It's not ok to do with women but ok to do with men. This ought to really help improve relations between the sexes.
Anyway,
It's good to keep track of what's happening. Keep a record of events.
Good to have a connection with others.
Good to confront her.
But NEVER ask, "did I say or do something to offend you."
The whole point is THEY ARE SICK and will use everything they can against you.
at 1:15 Make sure you develop other relationships.
Might be hard to do if others are afraid of losing their jobs, which is understandable.
Of course, that is what the bully boss starts with. It sucks changing jobs when you like what you do but hate the boss, but it REALLY sucks being unemployed.
So the best thing to do is talk to friends and loved ones and let them know you don't want to project - cause that happens too, and it really really sucks. Its called "Bringing it home."
@pitbullexpress, absolutely. I suffered for a long time and in the end, this bully got me fired! Statis show majority of targets will leave or be fired. I was a fantastic employee & she hated me for it. Bullies will do everything to get rid of you so why wait! Get out before you're pushed out, a determined bully will ruin your emotional health and your career, that's the whole idea, that's what they want so it's no good asking them, bullies don't live by the same ethics as normal people do.
The worst thing is when your boss is pals with HER boss (a woman) and the HR ppl (all women). My husband is going through this at his job. His boss is a 70 year old angry, belittling, forgetful woman. He loves his job but he hates his boss.
I hated those bitches with Ma'Bell! They loved power and control. They knew that you needed your job and they used that to work you.(Work you... meaning) ...hurt you and threaten you with your livelihood. I hate them today, and even after all these years. There should be a law against such people. I used to wonder how they sleep at night. I know they can't have many friends. They were diabolical. I was paid well, and they knew that. I wasn't willing to give up my pay.
my boss is in her 60's and should retire in my opinion Video was helpful but what do you do when you work in a place where human resources simply takes note of your complaints but doesn't do much else? my boss manages 3 departments so they know if they get rid of her they would have big shoes to fill. So its just easier for them to keep her. Doesn't matter how she treats her employees as long as she runs an efficient office...thats all that matters to the company.
What if the bully b**ch is in her 20's or 30's, and a favorite of someone higher up in the food chain? The assumption that such bosses are only in their 40's, 50's or 60's is just plain discriminatory. In my experience, the opposite is true. Typically, the bully had less experience and education than I, felt insecure, and latched onto (and/or slept with) a higher-up boss. Places that allow that mess typically come to bad ends anyway; it's best to leave. Save your speeches for the exit interview.
To add to this. Then you are forced to stay away from work, until you are given clearance from a Psychiatrist. Then told that maybe you should consider taking all leave accrued and then going to Centrelink after that. Just lucky for me, I got clearance.
What do you do, if you let Management know you have a problem with a Supervisor & you ask for Mediation before the situation gets out of hand. Management refuse to offer mediation, unless something else happens. You make them aware that you are unable to stand being in the same room as this person. You r placed a Team Meeting that this person is a part of, with no advice that they would be in attendance. You have an anxiety attack, right there & then in front of your peers and leave the room.
It's difficult right now to find a job. I am becoming concerned about you. How is this hellion preventing you from making other relationships? Can you invite people to lunch? Is there anyone in your office that you can trust? How about this person's superior? Please don't become aggressive yourself - THAT'S WHAT THEY WANT. They will use that as evidence against you. Keep a level head and document this behavior. If you can, manipulate the situation so that others see and hear the mistreatment.
@AmusedChild Thanks again for your caring comment. In my previous message I mentioned that I have now lost the job I was working at. I managed to get a new but I do sense a girl who will cause problems for me although I am being extra nice and trying to be a team player, being friendly where I can etc. A friend of mine was saying I should not invite people to lunch with me as these things people pick up on. However I do have a new job and I am worried - don't mind chatting through pm thanks x
@Strawbery EXACTLY what I thought, what if bully prevents other rel'ships. As a new employee the bully slandered me so noone would talk to me b4 they knew me In the end, she got to boss's PA & I got fired over nothing. I suffered for months & only now the daily abuse is so clear but I was in denial.
I just read Bully Free at work by Valerie Cade, it cuts thru all confusion, so sorry I didnt read while I was going through it but it helped with the aftermath & I feel armed for any future bullies

2.) I have been known for my too nice personality - do I really have to become an aggresive person to succeed?
3.) And if you leave your job and get away from this person - how difficult it is to get a new job? We are in a recession ...
It makes me think.. because I hate it when bosses use their power , they were once in our situation so they have no right to be nasty arg.
