  • Now this is one great movie. Take note HOLLYWOOD. Dont remake it and bugger it up

  • amazing sound design!

  • "The blasted thing's invisible!"

  • A Classic! I'm glad some Hollywood No name Hot shot hasn't butchered this with a remake.

  • Classic :)

  • It's out there in the dark, getting closer. You can't see it. You can't stop it.

This scene gave me nightmares when I was a kid and even to day I can still feel that wonderful chill going up and down my spine. I love this movie!

  • So this movie is from 1956 ? It's easy to see the influence of the radio shows from the years not too long before it , like Suspense , X minus 1 etc. The timing , sound effects ; the overall feel is very similar .

  • Absolute classic and influenced so much. Years ahead of it's time.

  • Wow. Look how young Leslie Nielsen was here.

  • This movie scared the crap out of me when I was a kid, especially this scene. And y'know what? It's STILL effective today. The slow approach of the monster, the eerie, creepy sound effects and the creature hitting the shields, roaring . . great scene from a great movie. An all-time classic!

  • @manchesterbadger Yep, your right. You can still feel the eerieness and slow build up of the scene, wondering whats heading there way, and not being able to see it, knowing its moving slowly and that something is in fact there - over half a century later this scene is still effective.

  • @manchesterbadger Same here. As a kid, I used to be afraid of sleeping with the lights off after seeing this, the later attack at Morbius' house, Attack Of The Crab Monsters, Fiend Without A Face and the Johnny Quest invisible monster. All the crazy things that go bump in the night.

    Ha ha.

  • Talk about setting your atmosphere - it's scenes like this that make the movie such a classic.

  • This is such crap. You think an id-attack is much to worry about?

    You haven't really felt the terror . . . until you've experienced a full-blown super-ego attack.

THAT'S really something to be worried about . . .

  • jesus can't help you here my friend.

  • The Krell did NOT invent the monster. What destroyed the Krell was the monsters from their own ids just as they were attempting to do away with their physical bodies. Moebius understands what happened to the Krell, but can not admit till the very end that the it is the monsters from his own id that are being projected against the visitors with all the power of the nuclear power generators built by the Krell.. NOooooooo!!!!!! Help!!!!!

  • So the Krell turned on their machine one day:

"Mom, can I have PB&J for supper?" MONSTER BLOWS UP HOUSE.

"Hmm, those crops came in pretty bad this year..." MONSTER BURNS DOWN FARM.

"what a crappy day..." MONSTER MURDERS THE PLANET.

  • looks like a grizzly from Disney.

  • wow it is so ugly >.< q

  • Ah, the ID monster. The scariest of monsters as it is literally YOU.

  • wonder what kind of monsters the krell dreamed up that destroyed them!

  • that monster was cool! Very eerie creature!

  • The "monster" was basically a magnetic field projected by the Krell imaging tech taken one step further. It was manipulated by Doc Morbius' unconcious mind, and unleashed when he slept, since his concious mind could not restrain it then. You're welcome in advance.<(asshole).

  • great 50s sci-Di. They hit it out of the park using that eerie soundtrack

  • I always thought it looked like Walter Pidgeon, personally - IF he had a crazy, rampaging ID Monster - with some pretty sinister feet - shalumping around tearing people apart. Or maybe meeting your girlfriend's dad on the first date? Don't forget this was even before The Blob in '58 - those animated FX might have come from a Disney house, but it sure wasn't Bambi.

  • blackmaster...you keep missing the point. The monster was no ordinary monster. It was the product of the shattered subliminal machinations of an arrogant scientist unable...just like the Krell...to factor in successfully the concept of the ID when creating a machine capable of materializing anything man could think up.So the monster is un clearly shown because the DREAM ITSELF was ALSO from a fractured psyche.btw Degree7,,,great point.Such special effects flooded the theaters of America .

  • The effects in this movie were very ahead of their time for 1957!!!!

  • My biggest problem with Forbidden Planet was the way the animators approached the monster. They didnt even try to draw something that would fit with a live action suspense movie. They didnt rotoscope a real animal's movements, they just went cartoon wild and made it rear up and lunge all over with the same style of movements as the dogs from 101 Dalmations or other disney cartoons. The way its stupid underbite jaw boinged open comically wide was just unnecessary. They should've shown only eyes.

  • Ummm.Blackmaster..."scariest" is in the eye of the beholder...right??!!So being an six year old boy and being scared out of my wits in the front row of the movie theater at the "new" technology and the lion-like plasma monster is certainly understandable...imho.So telling me there are SCARIER monsters that I should consider is whacked. That you feel I must be scared by what YOU fear the most is the scariest thing I have ever heard!! There is no shame in therapy...:)

  • A little note about the soundtrack:

The "electronic tonalities" produced by Doug and Bebe Barron were created using circuits that they designed. In creating the sounds, they could not actually hear what they were producing; the tonalities were transferred directly to tape, and could only be heard on playback! The recording itself IS the performance.

  • my favorite part!!

  • Ummm....BlackMaster...Disney WAS involved in the movie...Hello?? Didn't you read the credits before the movie started or were you trying to panhandle some fast cash for popcorn :) ???

  • @spiritgifted Ursula the sea witch and that demon from Fantasia were scarier than this shitty crayon scribble monster!

  • @BlackMasterRoshi

Wow...reading through the comments, you seem to be the only one of the opinion that this movie is shit. Maybe you're the one who is actually shit? Then again, I guess everyone is wrong, except you of course. Hope you enjoy pissing your pants to The Little Mermaid.

  • @doddsino I never said this movie was shit. I said this was a great movie with a shitty ending.

  • @BlackMasterRoshi

Well, that's your opinon, to which you are entitled. However the fact is, you ripped on several people here for liking it, as if they're wrong, and that is completely childish.

  • @doddsino No, I ripped on one person because he was an asshole, and i told other people that this monster isnt scary at all because apparently the disney animators didnt understand the word "scary" as well as the director did.

  • At its core, this movie is more than just a scifi film, it's also a psychological thriller. It also asks you many questions. Among them, in my opinion, is this. What if those inner demons, those pure evil beasts that exist within all of us, were suddenly just released into the world, to do as they please?

  • Adams: Can you fly this flying saucer, and land it?

Doc: Surely you can't be serious.

Adams: I am serious... and don't call me Shirley.

  • all that great suspenseful lead up for such a shitty looking disney cartoon monster.

  • @BlackMasterRoshi I disagree

  • @lburdeos464 Well that's great, I'm sure you find disney monsters terrifying. But i saw this movie when i was 12 and was severely disappointed by the terrible art design of the shitty monster. Maybe when you turn 12 you'll also realize its a sack of shit.

  • @BlackMasterRoshi You seem to be opinionated if not confined in your cognitive and imaginative analysis.

It is too bad because you overlooked the plot, the acting and the id itself.

I do not view disney monsters terrifying.

Incidentally, I have exceeded the tender age of 12 and when I was 12, I was not frightened by the id entity. Moreover disney was not connected with the movie

  • @lburdeos464 I'm pretty sure i called the rest of the movie "great suspenseful lead up..."

Now shut up you stupid aspie and stop trying to split hairs and browbeat me with two dollar words. Do they help you favorite see-through panty videos? As if you have me so outgunned in taste and class. Get real.

  • @BlackMasterRoshi Last time I checked-two dollar words are located in the lexicon. you may locate three dollar words, too. Specifically, the movie's special effects, is where you and I dissent , I enjoy! The realism, the sound effects, the outline of terror and of might is workable for me.

i am ignorant of what a "aspie" is. Notwithstandingthat, I am uncertain and lack determination as to why you would categorize an object stranger (me) an "aspi"

  • @lburdeos464 You talk like you have asperger's syndrome or some other form of self-important retardation. Therefor, Aspie.

  • @BlackMasterRoshi You have an inability to construct sentences, thoughts and ideas. Well, if you congratulating me for my intelligence and verbal skills thank you.

Concomitantly, if you believe that I have aspergers, you must possess dissimilar traits

  • @BlackMasterRoshi It's not a sack of shit, you terrible, terrible ogre!.. Grrrr! I believe that's YOU in the picture - fie on you, demon! I tweak your big nose!

  • @thebearclawjones Sorry, but even if i walked around carrying kittens and handing out flowers i couldnt look less menacing than that stupid thing.

  • @BlackMasterRoshi But why are you so bad and angry, you demonic thing?! They should remake it with you as that Id creature as you also seem to have tremendous hormone imbalance and likes to shout about everything... It is only a 50's movie you know they did not do with a lot of terrible gores and blood!! You probably want to see more human intestines flying with blood out so you can imagine having a big feast on it until your belly busts, you awful vampiric monster, OMG! Grrrr! You are a beast!!

  • Wow. I remember seeing this movie as a child when my dad had me watch it. Even without CGI, I'm impressed at the quality and polish of the special effects. This truly is a classic. The movie posters don't do it justice.

  • Leslie Nielsen is a very big surprise, who could imagine him in an sci fi movie of the 50s...and an excellent sci fi movie,at least in my opinion....it's so strange to see Nielsen in a non comic role..his disengagement is more than enough,anyway...the true matter of the movie, the psychoanalisis, become a well understandable field here. This movie is an excellent mix of psychology and sci fi,really a great movie..
