Agree. I was listening to 'Trapped in a Corner Live' and it was like I was seeing the influence of jazz on its composition. Nothing surprising, to mention, since musicians draw lots of influences and techniques. What surprised me was how it contributed to good (death) metal.
@seedofcorruptionmtl well I know that he was having pain in his throat caused by harsh vocals. He changed his vocal style to try to find something more comfortable. Although as an extreme metal vocalist myself I would think that the high screams would hurt more, but I would never really know because I can't get that high lol.
@Beamoxc I just posted on another vid about how his voice got higher after this album. I think it was manipulated in the studio to sound lower. Not sure though.
When I listen to DEATH on my stereo I always feel it like something fictional. I mean, their music is so Great that doesn't compromise in real standards. However, I see them playing their masterpieces LIVE and I always find it hard to believe that those SUICIDE MACHINES are real humans living on this planet!
Death metal bands should take a tip. It's not always about technicality and brutality burns out fast... Arrangement and melody seems to be lost these days in drop-A deathcore trendy crap.
@VisceralVoids Quite right, these emo/deathcore/grinddeath kill all the reality and possibility for a broad spectrumed emotional response from an audience ( Or its just me and these guys have really good tastes). These guys are geniuses.\m/
Chucks voice is definitely on another level at this point in time, how many other people can play guitar AND sound like death creeping up your spine WHILE fighting with chemo and cancer of the brain. Give the man some well deserved props.
well...for me i prefer his voice from 95 on. It was like when he moved his vocals up a register the skill level metaphorically went up a "register" as well. Symbolic and TSOP have the most challenging leads and melodic parts out of all the great songs Schuldiner ever wrote. May his music live in all of as. May he R.I.P
Pretty much he sucks live but he definitely kills the competition with his psychological metal. Favorite line "Close your eyes and imagine to be without what we take for granted every time we open our eyes" it really puts you in a sense to where you are nothing compared to the rest of the world and are really just a human. Hence the title of the album.
I've played a dinky like that...haha... EVERYONE!!!
I don't care what you are listening to this through, turn up the bass ALL the way. And put the volume through the roof. It's like I was there! There's a fucking concert in my living room!!!!
Hmm... I guess i never really thought of that song that way. I always thought he was talking about one person. Thank you for putting that into perspective for me. RIP Chuck! \m/
I like all of Chuck's vocal styles, all of them are amazing. Chuck is a person we should all aspire to be, kind, open minded... it's just that it's hard to be that because most people in this world are major assholes that you can't even deal with. RIP Chuck
the first 5 albums sounded like Jeff Becera (which isn't a bad thing) and then health problems caused by a tumor forced him to change his vocal style. His voice was unique on the last 2 albums.
this band could get a new singer, or at least should have when chuck was still around, because now thats hes not there can never be death. as killer metaluploads said chuck is death, he is the only member that was steady throughout all of death, kind of like megadeth isnt megadeth with no dave
@Cagedand3nRaged Same here. Chuck is a god in everyway musically that anyone could be. They are just being hater's because they are jealous of chucks godliness
Chuck's voice at the Sound of Perseverance period was the best of his career. It's not that awful barking like with today's bands. I mean it when I say that it really turned into a refined scream here.
I think his voice was best on individual... But I still tink it's wicked on every album... Sound of perseverance was maybe a bit to high, but It was still good.
i thought he just decided he wanted his voice higher i never knew it was because of his illness, but i like his high voice more. i say it sound sick as fuck!
His vioce may have been fucked up...but if you listen to this, the passion counts, and what I hear is a man. A man screaming Death Metal. So...his voice was amazing. Before his illness after his illness, even likely the last words he had before he died probably would've been music to our ears. Easily the most important addition to Death Metal.
his speaking voice wasn't affected at all, his death-vocals were altered because it hurt his neck to sing the way he used to on Human and such. But you're totally right, it's the passion that counts, and Chuck had so much passion in his playing and singing. That's what makes Death amazingly powerful
