Saw BJH around 71/72 at Kingston Poly. Fantastic then and I'm pleased they are still going strong, minus Les and the sadly deceased Mel. Although I have been getting into my teenage daughter's music lately, which is fine actually, I still like this stuff, particularly Mocking Bird. I'm intrigued that you're a fan despite being too young to have seen them in their prime. This just shows that classy music will always find fans!
I see you are also a fan of Wishbone Ash- another one of my old favourites, who also split into two like BJH. I never saw them, though was tempted to see Martin Turner's WA recently, though Andy Powell's version are apparently better. Re modern music- look beyond the charts. My daughter recommends Geneva. I've seen Keane and other bands with her, mostly very good. Re prog rock, punk's arrival seemed to freeze it into a museum! Good to hear from you! If I get the chance I'll try to see JLBJH.
Thanks for posting this!! It was a real thrill to see! I didn't know this 'Caught Live' DVD existed but I'm going to hunt it down now!
First saw BJH at a smallish gig at Crewe & Alsager college (Cheshire) in 1973 and again in Leeds (Town Hall) in 1975. Still got the tour programme for the latter. Always finished with 'Mockingbird' what a classic track. Happy Daze! Thanks again!
Ah it's an excellent DVD...lots of behind the scenes etc too! I've only seen JLBJH. Once. 2006. Excellent best day of my life! Very envious of you hehe. Wasn't around then though :(. Sarah x
Yes I was there with you, in body if not in mind as well! and yes, great festival except didn't some tents catch fire? and I lost my shoes and cut my feet and felt nothing! BJH were great, and the memories - how I hate getting old! Mish
Yea Mish the memories oh the memories...bought an overpriced afgan while the tents were burning...BUT what a concert...good to know that you also survived, you may have been the one telling me to "sit down" while I tried to catch up with my LSD floating head...
Thank you so much for putting this up on youtube, this was the first song I can consciously remember and if I have to pick a favorite song of all time, it is this one. It will always remind me of my father. I have covered it and our local bar and it always goes down a treat. BJH rule!
I would yes! not a hope in heck though! They aren't on particularly good terms and the way that Les has taken the music means the chance is even slimmer. And as for poor Mel :(.
I managed to see John and Woolly last november, did you catch them?
It's really the only concert I've ever been to and it was utterly amazing! There are some clips from them on here. I know, Melvyn was unbelievable, such a tragic loss :'(
I've taken to writing RIP Mel everywhere really, so one more won't hurt!
Hey thanks for the reply XGirl..glad that we can share that great memory...did you also like King Crimson ay Weeley...they were also a knockout especially with Greg Lakes vocals...have a good one.
I like King Crimson a lot yes, but as I say I've never seen them live :)...and unfortunately there's no footage of the origional line up...but there we go :S.
Yea, I think they changed a lot though, in my opinion they did not really improve with the changes (just my opinion)..I loved their early stuff...Lizard album and Court album...good to know that you like em anyway..
Lizard album was I think the following one to 'court'...has some vocals by Jon Anderson of YES...but real good like 'court..' and 'wake of posiedon'..hey anyway have a great week, hope weather improved for you.
great music
i hope they re unit ;

Wow! What an absolute gem this is! It's so great to see the original line-up of BJH, especially with Woolly and his trademark Mellotron sound.
trakmac 4 years ago
yep, that mellotron sure does them proud :)
XGirl1993 4 years ago
It sure does!

Seem like a real fan trackmac! good stuff :)
BJH are my life!
XGirl1993 4 years ago
Yes I am! I see that John Lees and 'Woolly' Wolstenholme are performing together again and wouldn't it be nice if Les Holroyd could rejoin them!

No! I don't get much chance to go to live concerts these days. As for Mel Pritchard, he was a brilliant drummer and he is sadly missed.
Mel Pritchard RIP!
