Can you put it in 220 degrees celcius without taking it apart? And does it happen from playing to much? My house is always really cold, and ive had it over a year.
im not taking my shit apart might be another problem everyone dont have the same problem if you dont know for sure the problem you may fuck it up more...anyhow he looks like a sony employee
@garavrocks1234 Unfortunately there is no 'PERMENANT' fix. The solder under the GPU cracks due to the high temperature that the PS3 runs at. However well repaired, the problem will return. Shame on Sony for not owning up to this design problem.
as retarded as this may sound but do u guys think its possible to put my ps3 in the micro wave (im laughing as im typing this) for about maybe 10 seconds just to heat it up to see it would fix the ylod?
@CaLizFinEsT10 omg thank u so much i havent played my ps3 in almost a year because of yold and just though it would b funny to try this pluged it in and it worked thanks so much u r a life saver
yeah, im a 40 GB ps3 owner for 2 years and im having a big problem with my ps3 my system is getting over heaten, in this case... my ps3 as it gets really hot the fan start to run like a jet so i knoe there sumthing wrong, i need to put sum thermal paste i need help on the name for the proper thermal paste! on my ps3 thx!
fix the ylod & 2 weeks later it happen again. now its say its too hot and turn it off but i did for 12 hrs and its still saying the same thing. stay on for about 5 min and the infor about its being to hot and it shut off, back to the YLOD. is my ps3 gone? what do i need to do? please help. thanks
It is the failure of the BGA connections on the underside of the Graphics chip. The Lead Free Solder used is fractured by the high operating temperature of the GPU. Infra Red re flow re connects the BGA solder connections by re flowing the solder at a very precise temperature. Too low the temperature, you don't get a full re flow. Too high, damages the GPU.
Most PCs are used for surffing the web #1 Muzic #2 Videos #3, up to date gaming on a PC is not something everyone does thier for your chip is not being stressed out to the max like it is when playing games on th PS3 or Xbox
The cost in US Dollars from 50 pounds + 15 pounds is about 100 US dollars. I am sending my PS3 to you guys to get mine fixed. I have my game "World At War" still inside the PS3. I mostly want my data off of the PS3.
Yesterday, I just tried to fix my PS3 with the heater gun in my bed, I know it was stupid but anyway, my bed was a little burned but the motherboard was just fine, I applied the thermal compound and put all back together, but still has the YLOD and the yellow light it skips faster than normal, what do i do?
@iNowmad Lift the ps3 with your right hand. Then lift the lid of the nearest trash can with your left hand. Apply force in a downward thrust, smashing the ps3 against the bottom of the trash can. Then get a job and put together a high end gaming pc that will last you 6+ years with no issues.
I have been doing electronics many years. You certainly know what you are doing. Infra-Red is certainly the best way to fix this fault. It is refreshing to see skilled engineers on here!
I know its nothing to with ylod but I have a problem my ps3 will not display any game on the xmb dvds and cds work fine just the blu rays are not showing up but if i get lucky i watch a dvd for like 15minutes and than put ps3 game into the ps3 it sometimes loads up
I got a MAJOR question, do I keep all my data doing this method? because SONY wipes the hard drive or sends a factory one, I seriously do not want to lose all the years of data.
By repairing the main board, all information on your hard drive stays intact. Something Sony would tell you is not an option. We perform a lot of repairs for people with valuable information stored on their PS3. They are normally very happy to recover their 'lost' data.
Sony does not wipe the hard drive, they just send you a different unit. They could if they wanted, recover your information and return it to you. They just cannot be bothered!
imagine if some1 took his or her time doing that and then they forgot to infrared laser for (insert time) minutes lol and had to redo it all again. i hope mine doesnt become like that , does the mgs 80 gig bundle have vulnerability to that problem?
Infrared soldering eliminates movement of surrounding components, and marks on reworked PCB's, both associated with standard hot air gun reworking. It is a far more precise way to reach re flow temperature without damaging any components.
Infrareds the best. variable heatguns can and will do the same job with proper technique, of course sony will regard that as incorrect when they make 150 quid for every out of waranty ps3 they get sent back. if you lack confidence in electronics get some guys like these to do it. but if your handy and do it right you won't warp the board, i have fixed about 20 units with a variable heat gun
If your having success with a heat gun, you should get yourself an Infra Red BGA rework station. You can control the temperature better and make sure that you are getting a proper re flow of the solder. A full re flow should make your repairs last longer and there less risk of damage to the BGA chips.
ok i tryed using a heat gun to fix it. did it 2 times and i got the ps3 on for 30 minutes. now its just going back to yellow light :/. You got any advice?
I would take it to someone who is experienced in this type of fault. A heat gun can reconnect the solder briefly, but you can't beat a full Infra Red re flow. The reason Infra Red is so good is that you can reach the desired temperature accurately without risk of damage to the PCB or components.
ok instead of using that infra red thing i used a hot air gun. After i tryed the ps3 got it on ejected the disc and the ps3 was working fine then i moved the ps3.
i didn't put the long screws in and i moved the ps3 and some off the stuff in the ps3 moved inside it. then the ps3 went back to red light. i pressed the power button and its gone back to yellow light :/.
There are lots of people recommending the heat gun fix, but you are not going to get a lasting fix using a heat gun. You need to reach the precise temperature for re flow. Infra Red BGA re flow is the best and safest way to re flow BGA Lead Free solder.
moneys tight right now.. i cant afford all this stuff man i'll never play mah PS3 again ;/ RIP Triple_Cedeno December 25th 2007 to December 5th 2009, I'm gona miss my PS3.. i mean i remeber a few weeks ago i was tryna watch some blu ray disks and it wudnt work.. ii wuz so pissd but i cud still play games.. is this related??
Fragmentation can occur on the hard drive stopping some of the functions of the PS3. Try backing your data up then formatting the Hard Drive. if games are running, your laser is ok and you dont have the Yellow Light of Death.
They are specialist equipment. You can order them online, but you need to know how to set them up for re flow of the BGA on the PS3. I would recommend taking it to a company experienced in this kind of repair.
The problem with a hair dryer is that is will not heat the solder up to the re flow temperature of the solder. Using heat on its own would damage the pcb, Infra Red is the best and safest way to do a full re flow.
That would be interesting to see. The failure temperature of most of the components on the main board is 260 degrees. We use Infra Red for a reason. It allows you to reach re flow temperature safely.
I have a Japanese 60b Console. It got the red blinking light then the YLOD over the weekend. I live in Wigan so If I came to your shop in Oldham would It cost £75 to fix. I would like it fixed as I have a lot of Japanese PS2 games so a slim would be useless to me. Thanks.
All the plastic on the board will melt in the oven before you reach the temperature required to reflow the solder. Infra Red is the only safe way to reflow the solder.
