  • Can you put it in 220 degrees celcius without taking it apart? And does it happen from playing to much? My house is always really cold, and ive had it over a year.

  • so i need infared light to fix it?

  • im not taking my shit apart might be another problem everyone dont have the same problem if you dont know for sure the problem you may fuck it up more...anyhow he looks like a sony employee

  • IS THIS PERMANENT

  • @garavrocks1234 Unfortunately there is no 'PERMENANT' fix. The solder under the GPU cracks due to the high temperature that the PS3 runs at. However well repaired, the problem will return. Shame on Sony for not owning up to this design problem.

  • @SteveSpy1967 they did it on purpose so u buy a new one or repair it and pay £130

  • good thing i got a slim

  • I was actually trying to finish GTA4 when I got the YLOD

  • as retarded as this may sound but do u guys think its possible to put my ps3 in the micro wave (im laughing as im typing this) for about maybe 10 seconds just to heat it up to see it would fix the ylod?

  • @CaLizFinEsT10 You idiot, metal in a microwave? Get out of here...

  • @CaLizFinEsT10

LMFAO yeah thats a good way to repair the YLOD......:P

  • @CaLizFinEsT10 omg thank u so much i havent played my ps3 in almost a year because of yold and just though it would b funny to try this pluged it in and it worked thanks so much u r a life saver

  • hahaha they made a song of the yellow light of death hahaha

  • yeah, im a 40 GB ps3 owner for 2 years and im having a big problem with my ps3 my system is getting over heaten, in this case... my ps3 as it gets really hot the fan start to run like a jet so i knoe there sumthing wrong, i need to put sum thermal paste i need help on the name for the proper thermal paste! on my ps3 thx!

  • i got the ylod .. should i get it repaired or should i just get a new one ??

  • fix the ylod & 2 weeks later it happen again. now its say its too hot and turn it off but i did for 12 hrs and its still saying the same thing. stay on for about 5 min and the infor about its being to hot and it shut off, back to the YLOD. is my ps3 gone? what do i need to do? please help. thanks

  • Use Artic Silver on the CPU and GPU.

  • @kongo7896 i have exact same problem works for 5 min the stops again and ive tried taking it apart again and again

  • What temperature does it need to be and for how long?

  • 220 degrees celcius. Long enough for it to reconnect the broken connections.

  • sony should fix this problem for free because its not our fault we get the ylod its because of hardware faileur

  • so what was the problem and how does infrared fix it, i thought you'd have to replace something.

  • It is the failure of the BGA connections on the underside of the Graphics chip. The Lead Free Solder used is fractured by the high operating temperature of the GPU. Infra Red re flow re connects the BGA solder connections by re flowing the solder at a very precise temperature. Too low the temperature, you don't get a full re flow. Too high, damages the GPU.

  • Love the song lol. :)

  • What is the infra red tool you use?

  • Infra Red BGA re work staion.

  • Do they fix consoles from the US? I would like for these guys t work on mine please let me know thanks

  • Yes, we get consoles from all over the world.

  • just wanna say thanks for fixing my ps3 from this problem, ive backed up all my data now so thank you very much for the excellent service.

  • why don't pc's have these problems?, pc's have the same stuff, it never happens to pc's though

  • Most PCs are used for surffing the web #1 Muzic #2 Videos #3, up to date gaming on a PC is not something everyone does thier for your chip is not being stressed out to the max like it is when playing games on th PS3 or Xbox

  • The cost in US Dollars from 50 pounds + 15 pounds is about 100 US dollars. I am sending my PS3 to you guys to get mine fixed. I have my game "World At War" still inside the PS3. I mostly want my data off of the PS3.

  • will this process delete my saved game data?

  • ill be giving you a call on sunday i need to back up my files

  • Yesterday, I just tried to fix my PS3 with the heater gun in my bed, I know it was stupid but anyway, my bed was a little burned but the motherboard was just fine, I applied the thermal compound and put all back together, but still has the YLOD and the yellow light it skips faster than normal, what do i do?

  • @iNowmad Lift the ps3 with your right hand. Then lift the lid of the nearest trash can with your left hand. Apply force in a downward thrust, smashing the ps3 against the bottom of the trash can. Then get a job and put together a high end gaming pc that will last you 6+ years with no issues.

  • I'm interesting in getting my YLOD fixed by you guys, how much do you charge? I live in Nottingham FYI. Cheers.

  • What temperature are you taking the chips to? And are you pre-heating the board? Especially xbox's

  • Melting point of Lead-Free solder. 220C

  • I have been doing electronics many years. You certainly know what you are doing. Infra-Red is certainly the best way to fix this fault. It is refreshing to see skilled engineers on here!

  • will my data and files like i have a lvl 60 on mw2 will the repair remove my data and files plz answer plz plz plz

  • @junrocks1234 No, your files stay intact.

  • That data stores online, even if you get a new PS3 you will ALWAYS be lvl 60

  • @junrocks1234 u will still have your stuff

  • I thinks so, because your online acc is a lvl 60, not the console itself, not sure though

  • omg pissed off! mine did this YLOD ughh

  • I love the song.

  • All I've got to say is wow... look at the heat sink in comparison to a 360...

  • can u recover a game disc if its still inside the drive? because that happen to me during gameplay...

  • @basikfades Yes, discs can be recovered and data from the hard drive.

  • how munch it cost for USD money?

  • You would have to check out the website playbackups com and then look up the exchange rate for US currency.

  • ok thanks

  • i have 60g how much will it cost me i live in manchester

  • Prices are on the website, playbackups com

  • do you also repair 40 gigabyte models ?

  • @ebelein Yes, all models including slimline.

  • That's a bit early for the slimline models to be getting ylods don't you think?

  • I have a origanal 60 gb ps3 can i do the same with that

  • I know its nothing to with ylod but I have a problem my ps3 will not display any game on the xmb dvds and cds work fine just the blu rays are not showing up but if i get lucky i watch a dvd for like 15minutes and than put ps3 game into the ps3 it sometimes loads up

  • Ye mine got YLOD and the silver strip nof metal came off or shall i just get a slim line

  • Repair takes about an hour. 3-4 days factoring in courier delay.

  • lol i have a 60g still :)

i dont need to download any ps1 games! i can play them on my 60g! >:)

  • I got a MAJOR question, do I keep all my data doing this method? because SONY wipes the hard drive or sends a factory one, I seriously do not want to lose all the years of data.

  • By repairing the main board, all information on your hard drive stays intact. Something Sony would tell you is not an option. We perform a lot of repairs for people with valuable information stored on their PS3. They are normally very happy to recover their 'lost' data.

  • Sony does not wipe the hard drive, they just send you a different unit. They could if they wanted, recover your information and return it to you. They just cannot be bothered!

  • Can you give me a figure on how much you are gonna charge me to fix my PS3?

  • If you look on the website PLAYBACKUPS, all prices are there. There is a link up and to the right.

  • Carlos Tevez took his ps3 to Steve, and now he can hit goals in real soccer.

  • imagine if some1 took his or her time doing that and then they forgot to infrared laser for (insert time) minutes lol and had to redo it all again. i hope mine doesnt become like that , does the mgs 80 gig bundle have vulnerability to that problem?

  • They all have the problem. It is caused by excess heat damaging the lead free solder on the GPU.

  • ah , thanks

  • I got the PS3 on and working atm.

how much would a infra red BGA network station cost?

  • They range from a few hundred to thousands of pounds depending on the model.

  • what's different about the infrared? is it because it can localize on a spot, or because it can reach a higher temperature?

  • Infrared soldering eliminates movement of surrounding components, and marks on reworked PCB's, both associated with standard hot air gun reworking. It is a far more precise way to reach re flow temperature without damaging any components.

  • Infrareds the best. variable heatguns can and will do the same job with proper technique, of course sony will regard that as incorrect when they make 150 quid for every out of waranty ps3 they get sent back. if you lack confidence in electronics get some guys like these to do it. but if your handy and do it right you won't warp the board, i have fixed about 20 units with a variable heat gun

  • If your having success with a heat gun, you should get yourself an Infra Red BGA rework station. You can control the temperature better and make sure that you are getting a proper re flow of the solder. A full re flow should make your repairs last longer and there less risk of damage to the BGA chips.

  • the HEI-IR-860 is on my list just need to make the room in my workshop, need to be fixing more units to justify the expense.

    really

  • ok i tryed using a heat gun to fix it. did it 2 times and i got the ps3 on for 30 minutes. now its just going back to yellow light :/. You got any advice?

  • I would take it to someone who is experienced in this type of fault. A heat gun can reconnect the solder briefly, but you can't beat a full Infra Red re flow. The reason Infra Red is so good is that you can reach the desired temperature accurately without risk of damage to the PCB or components.

  • use no clean flux if your determined to do it yourself, dry solder cracks and does not

grip the circuit properly, also make sure you apply the thermal paste correctly.

    IR is better though...

  • ok instead of using that infra red thing i used a hot air gun. After i tryed the ps3 got it on ejected the disc and the ps3 was working fine then i moved the ps3.

i didn't put the long screws in and i moved the ps3 and some off the stuff in the ps3 moved inside it. then the ps3 went back to red light. i pressed the power button and its gone back to yellow light :/.

    got any ideas?

  • There are lots of people recommending the heat gun fix, but you are not going to get a lasting fix using a heat gun. You need to reach the precise temperature for re flow. Infra Red BGA re flow is the best and safest way to re flow BGA Lead Free solder.

  • moneys tight right now.. i cant afford all this stuff man i'll never play mah PS3 again ;/ RIP Triple_Cedeno December 25th 2007 to December 5th 2009, I'm gona miss my PS3.. i mean i remeber a few weeks ago i was tryna watch some blu ray disks and it wudnt work.. ii wuz so pissd but i cud still play games.. is this related??

  • Fragmentation can occur on the hard drive stopping some of the functions of the PS3. Try backing your data up then formatting the Hard Drive. if games are running, your laser is ok and you dont have the Yellow Light of Death.

  • no, the PS3 shuts off right away.. goes green, then yellow, green, then red nd blinks red for a while

  • whats that screw driver called I need 1

  • i want it repaired but i dont want to risk it doing it by myself. Ill fuck it up

  • Run it over and we will sort it out for you. playbackups com.

  • how much do you charge ? & how long would it take ?

  • All prices are on our website playbackups com

  • Where should i take it and how much would it cost?

  • Checkout playbackups co uk

  • do you have a warranty on your repairs? for example if the same fault occurs in a few months?

    regards.

  • Yes, we give a 3 month warranty on this repair.

  • where would you get one of these infra red GBA's from ?

  • They are specialist equipment. You can order them online, but you need to know how to set them up for re flow of the BGA on the PS3. I would recommend taking it to a company experienced in this kind of repair.

  • Can I just use a hair blow driayer

  • The problem with a hair dryer is that is will not heat the solder up to the re flow temperature of the solder. Using heat on its own would damage the pcb, Infra Red is the best and safest way to do a full re flow.

  • Great Video Man!!!

Thank you very much!! Thaths Work!!

Si Funciona.... Hagan todo Paso a Paso!!

Ça Marche tres bien!! (y) c'est Super!!!

  • Hi. I am going on a trip. Should i unplug my ps3?

  • If you would like to help with global warming, yes!

  • you can use a heat gun set at 700 degree to resolder the cpu and gpu

  • That would be interesting to see. The failure temperature of most of the components on the main board is 260 degrees. We use Infra Red for a reason. It allows you to reach re flow temperature safely.

  • how much can it cost me if i send you my PS3 20GB, that has the yellow light of doom

  • All pricing information is on our site playbackups, com there is a link on top right of the page.

  • I have a Japanese 60b Console. It got the red blinking light then the YLOD over the weekend. I live in Wigan so If I came to your shop in Oldham would It cost £75 to fix. I would like it fixed as I have a lot of Japanese PS2 games so a slim would be useless to me. Thanks.

  • Yes, we can fix it for you. £75 is correct. It takes about an hour, so you can wait around or call back for it.

  • for me to melt my ps3 you gotta show me proof that putting your ps3 in the oven works !

  • Putting your PS3 in an oven would damage it. The only way to repair the YLOD fault is with an Infra Red BGA rework station.

  • do you know where I can buy one of those BGA station same as yours? and do you know how much it is?

  • Yes, about $20,000.

  • i just got this today!!!

  • how does it work in the oven. do you put it on the rack or what. what is the temp.

  • All the plastic on the board will melt in the oven before you reach the temperature required to reflow the solder. Infra Red is the only safe way to reflow the solder.

  • i put mine in the oven, and the ylod is gone for ever.

  • I take it you know the YLOD will never come back because you melted everything on the board!

  • can you give me the model number for the BGA workstation?

  • Hakko FR1418-02 - BGA Rework System

  • ARE YOU FRIGGIN KIDDING?!?!? Someone's got some dollar haha

How long are repairs lasting with it?

  • i remember this song on watch dog a few weeks ago lol.

  • dude thats such a kick ass song lol

  • how much do you charge for a fix?
