Perfect start to a perfect journey...my dad has the vinyl and I'll never let go of it..so fucking pure and amazing. Love everything about this record!
@DomentorTheOnlyTrue Point being that Sad Wings of Destiny was heavy metal, and Rocka Rolla would've been the same had it not been for the totalitarian control of Rodger Bain who made the album seem a lot thinner and less metal-like than originally intended.
@ChristianU2ubeh I think AC/DC are today not recognized as "erlier than Priest" metal, cos their first album came out in 1975 only in Australia & New Zealand. the international release of the first album came out in 1976.
I think maybe time is right that all these boring MTV metal "experts" recognize this fact...
@Kyori960 That's what they themselves say, sure! Same is with Motorhead! But everybody says Motorhead is metal. AC/DC are still a metal band, no matter if they don't want this title, since it's too young for them. Fact is "heavy metal" was a term for most "extreme" musical form (or better call it "hardest") & for sure AC/DC were MUCH harder band than Judas Priest. Basically, they were THE hardest of them all (before Motorhead came to the scene). so, sure AC/DC qualify for tag heavy metal.
@DomentorTheOnlyTrue Rock n' roll evolved through many years. You know, it went from Elvis and Chuck Berry, through The Beatles and The Who all the way to things like AC/DC and Motorhead. Metal doesn't evolve as much, simply because whenever there comes something that is hard to qualify, a new metal genre is born (Which is a bit pointless for me...). Now we have Heavy, Thrash, Death, Black, Doom, Speed... That doesn't happen in case of rock n'roll.
@Kyori960 AC/DC were clearly a heavy metal band in the '80s. But I think AC/DC specifically want to be named Rock'n'Roll, cos they are much more aware where they came from & they don't need new tag "heavy metal" (for same music). If you're a Priest fan, you would know Chuck Berry was also a big influence on Priest. so, Priest came from exactly the same thing - Rock'n'Roll.
@DomentorTheOnlyTrue Well, in the end it's just a matter of names. For someone it will be heavy metal, for the other it will be rock n'roll. The most important thing is that we are aware of the bands history and those little details that make their specific style : )
@Kyori960 Well, good thinking, I like it! but maybe you should've realized by now Heavy Metal & Rock'n'Roll is basically THE same thing. It's just how the same thing got a new name in different decades. From Elvis, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, to Purple, Sabbath, AC/DC, Priest, Motorhead, Maiden, Dio, etc. Many heavy metal bands (from the '80s) many times said they played Rock'n'Roll. or in one way or another identified themselves with Rock'n'Roll. Same was with AC/DC.
You're right, the time signature on this is closer to jazz than typical metal...which continued until Stained Class. Awesome stuff. I had this in '81, well after it came out but then again I was 6 when it came out...living in rural Nevada...rock station?? record store?? Found it in a Payless Drug bargain bin for 50 cents...
almost 4 thousend views.... this makes me feel part of the underground world of heavy metal so bad!... sorry bad english, i fu+king love judas priest!

Still not heavy metal at this stage, I think. but depressive hard rock with bluesy feel.
I think the band that kicked Priest's ass at that stage - as well as everybody else's - were AC/DC!!!!
Their first album in 1975 & absolutely destroyed everything!!!
so, really AC/DC should be named greater heavy metal pioneers than Priest.
not just this trendy Black Sabbath/Priest propaganda that everybody seems to follow today...
Priest are great, but not really first HM band after Zeppelin/Purple/Sabbath.

@DomentorTheOnlyTrue Sir, may I redirect you to Tyrant from Sad Wings of Destiny? Heavier than anything AC/DC could even hope to ever put out. EVER.
ChristianU2ubeh 9 months ago
@ChristianU2ubeh of course you may, my friend... heavier or not, a matter of taste, I like it myself very much, but however: that was in 1976.

@DomentorTheOnlyTrue AC/DC is a rock n'roll band. They are not playing metal in any form, and never will be.
