@ forthst18 You're welcome to your opinion, but please don't assume that all the other people who LOVE this rendition don't have ears just cos you disagree with them. (And liking Camille's version doesn't mean you can't also like Dillie's. Or Amanda's either. Great, individual performers, all of them)
PLEASE don't believe some of these reviews.....this is a painfully laboured version of this song that is all about Camille and not about the song or its lyrics........it's just not good enough a performance and her decision to sing it so slowly and with TOO much pathos means that the power of the original is dissipated. It's a shame that there is no video showing the writer Dillie Keane perform it. BUT, there is an audio version. Listen to that and then compare with Camille's selfish performa
@forthst18 Why should people not believe some of the other reviews? You don't like this version, so you insist that everyone else not like it too? Do you *really* not see the ignorance and arrogance of such a position? Telling someone "check out this other version" can be educational; telling them to not like what they like is absurd.
No, after listening to this a few more times I changed my mind: I *am* going to disregard some of the other reviews. Starting, and ending, with yours.
Hmmm interesting comments... esp clairelouise! I saw Camille live singing this and you could hear and even feel if a pin dropped and there was definately more than my couple of tears in the room even a bloke 2seats away!
It's a little unfair to credit the song writing to only Dillie Keane, the lyrics were written by both Dillie and her Fascinating AIda colleague Adele Anderson.
That and Johnny Cash's version of HURT are the 2 songs which openly make me weep, Well done Camille, as they say in Dublin - you're a leg(short for legend) :-)
@twistedapart You can't find her version of God is in the House either. There is probably more of her music at the UK iStore, but you can't buy there from the US. My Mac and iPod are made in China. Apparently, the world is only flat for manufacturers. Sucks for us.
I noticed that the song is credited to Dillie Keane in the info for this video. The lyrics were jointly written by Dillie Keane and Adele Anderson according the sleeve notes for the original recording of this song.
Captivating interpretation. I lived every word as she sang.Loved the phrasing the pauses. Poigniant and uncomplicated expression of regret and loss. Beautiful.
Camille is an actress who sings, her interpretation of dramatic pieces- such as this song , have sublime emotional impact. Her voice is not as musically precise as such performers as Amanda Palmer but nevertheless she has the essence , which is so vital to material like this.
This one is really flat by moments, and then the singing comes rushing from nowhere, totally messy. Plus you can hardly understand what she's saying! Only positive point: you can see emotion in her eyes.
This is a simple song, but Camille has invested a stunning amount in it - her emotional involvement is plainly obvious - and what is simple transcends into high art
This is a wonderful performance, and I cried, as well. But I'm not sure I would have caught all of the words if I hadn't watched Amanda's first ... 5 stars, Camille. :)
AMAZING.... Thank you, thank you for posting this, I've been looking for it since seeing her for the first time, live at the Roundhouse last month - she is a truly, truly amazing performer, had the audience in the palm of her hand from the first note.... WHAT a unique, spellbinding stage presence.... Amanda Palmer's version of this is great, but Camille is in a league of her own....
I still remember being introduced to this song by Camille in the Spiegeltent galaxies ago though it still seems like yesterday ;
Made my mascara drip onto my elbows, not just cause i felt so far from home that night but because of the beautiful way Camille brings this. Ive seen other peôple try to tackle it and it never works, gets very cabaret and exagerated.

Nothing on the origional by Dillie. Dillie has a much better voice and sang it with much more expression. This version hasn't touched me at all!

I prefer Amanda Palmer's version. It seems less rehearsed and more natural.

Charmant, attrayant et mélancolique, but sad to say I much prefer the original with Dillie. Would post it if I knew how.

I love both Amanda and Camille's interpretations but for me, this has the edge. I was practically howling when I saw her sing it live!

Amanda Palmer's version is so much better!

But Amanda's is the best.
