I seen a couple of LS powered Buick Wagons Gernaded here in Knoxville on the cash for Clunkers progam, on of them only had 80,000 miles on it. I quit working at the dealership after that, I drive both a Caprice Classic 93 and a 92 Roadmaster Estate Wagon, Made me sick seeing them destroyed. Fuck Osama- I mean Obama
I am just curious, junkyards would get these "Cash for Clunkers" vehicles and thrash the engine buy blowing them up, but then, didn't you have to put that chemical solution in the engine so it could never be rebuilt or used again? Or would just killing it by blowing it up with no oil do the same job??
@56Mercgal engines were destroyed at the dealerships and then they are sent to junkyard. Yea you could rebuild the engine but would you really want to?

Doesn't seem like these you are running were destroyed. What gets me is a beautiful 1991 GREEN Jeep Gran Wagoneer was destroyed on the Caash for Clunkers!! They are going for up to $25,000 now if they are under 100,000, and this one had no more than 80,000!

@56Mercgal when the program first started I would just pour the sodium silicate in, it would lock the motor up in just a few minutes or less. There was around 130 cars to disable at my dealership and after the first few cars I decided to have some fun with them. I did some burnouts and stuff and then blew the motors up

its a federal law that you are not permitted to damage these cars untill all usable parts are removed or its decommissioned by the junkyard and is ready to be crushed or you can get fined for federal property damage for the parts that you wrecked, to the government that truck is worth over $2000 in usable parts what ever damage you cause you pay for it and there is alot of people that will turn you in,the scfcp will notify the government the next time you post damages to a cash for clunkers car

It did work great, people took in vehicles that were 'PAID FOR" and picked up a new one and debt they couldn't afford due to future lost jobs, ending up losing their job, repo car, and failed bank loan, repeat cycle

The automakers took all the sale price off their cars and marked them up,then you only got the government money which in most new cars you paid more for them with cash for clunkers then you could of bought them for a month earlier,or the same price but you got rid of your old ride for free ! @aloc001 The dealers were not allowed to keep the old vehicles. There was a special fuel that they put in the fuel tank and let it run for a little. Then through out the entire system it turned to a like-concrete substance and totaled the vehicle, It even ruined the catalytic converters and mufflers. I know this cause my friend owns a Ford dealership and I was asking him about it when 'Cash for Clunkers' was going on. Like I said, it was against the law for the dealerships to keep the 'clunkers'

Do people know how long these vans actually last? I would never send a perfectly good dodge with the ole reliable 360 or 318 to die, you just can't kill those engines. I personally have yet to kill my (318) @ over 200,000 miles and my uncle has yet to kill his (318) @ over 430,000. I bet that van had less than 200,000 miles on the clock, still considered being broken in for that engine. They couldn't have mine even if the pistons flew out of it!
