  • this plays just likes a Disney movie ,,

  • read about "Disneyland Dream" on wikipedia

steve martin is in this 20 minutes into the film

  • nice video

  • I want to know if Steve Martin who worked at Disneyland as a child, appears at about twenty minutes into the film, briefly walking left to right in the lower part of the frame, dressed in top hat, vest, and pink striped shirt?

  • Thank you for sharing this moment in time. Loved it.

  • I looked at this film and some of Mr Barstow's other films, he must have been a remarkable man. It seems fitting that the family also recorded his memorial service to share with everyone.

  • Thank you for sharing this with the world. It reminds me of my first trip to Disneyland right after it opened. Things have really changed since "those days"!

  • Wow, I can't imagine what it must have been like to have real neighbors. Whenever I see someone in my yard, my first instinct is to grab my gun and call the police (and for good reason).

  • the family is hilarious in this video!

  • This is the first ever item posted on the Internet that I've seen in which every single comment is of a positive nature. At least, so far. God bless the goodness of people who recognize goodness in others and don't disparage it. Could it be there is still some good in the world? Is it possible for this to continue? I hope so.

  • This is nice to see. The family resembles Ozzie and Harriet, Leave It To Beaver, and Norman Rockwell all rolled up into one (thats a compliment). A nice piece of Americana from the 1950s!

  • I read about this in the NYT. Fascinating. Such memories. Loved it.

  • I was sad to here of the passing of Mr. Barstow, his amateur films are an inspiration to many independent filmmakers. I watch them a couple of times a year for inspiration, and to remember life in the 50's and 80's. He will be sadly missed for his dedication to family life, filmmaking, and the preservation of whales,

  • @suzannalcooper I am sure you know by now that there is a great column in the New York Times by Frank Rich that is based on these films. What a great heritage!

  • @suzannalcooper which one is your parent in this video? thats really cool!

  • Hello, my name is Suzanna Barstow Cooper. My grandfather, Robbins Barstow was the person that made this video. I am so happy that all of you appreciate this home movie. I assure you there is plenty more where that came from. Keep on enjoying my grandfather's movies.

  • An absolutely incredible document of a vacation!

Are you the Dad on this film or did someone else now post this?

This video was leaps and bounds better than most pro productions today and was certainly better than any home family vacation video I have ever seen.

I teared up several times thru out at the wit, creativity and magic of the entire film.

The comedy, the Dad's voice-over, the editing and excellent content of the subject matter was superb.

I am out of characters for this post. Kudos!

  • Thank you for your comments. Actually the only credit that I can take for this wonderful piece of nostalgia and history is finding this gem on a web site that has old home movies that people have posted. It truly is magical in many ways.
