I noticed your fretboard is scalloped, does that enhance speed or get different tones? I've seen it on Malmsteens guitars but never understood why he did it.
@riddleguitar26 It doesn't increase speed. It actually forces you to slow down until you develop proper control. This is it's main function, to give more control of the strings. It makes you learn to play with a lighter touch, so you can do more, with less effort. This is why it is thought to make you play faster. You also get better sustain.
those would just be tapped natural harmonics.. it doesnt have to be just one octave above... just imaging w/e note your playing or have fretted as the open position you can then tap harmonics on wehre the 12 fret or (1 octave higher) would be if hte fretted note was an open string..and also one the corresponding 7th and 5th... were the natural harmonics on teh open strings are
Thank you so very much for the ghost harmonic info . . . been looking for this for years! (After I first leaned about it back in the early 90s and since forgotten the technique) Keep rocking man, you are awesome!
yes it does look that way. its hard to tell. but i know my friend has an yngwie, and the fretboard is yellow. not brown. not sure if it comes in different woodtypes, but yeah hard to tell.
Its just gain hiss, and doesnt exist anymore as this vid is a year old and I have new eqiupment. Potato fingers? Hey, if you bite down on your bottom lip and blow hard will those gapped teeth whistle? Grow up, get some testosterone and braces.
dude you're really helpful. i'm not a big theory guy, i'm much more of a feel player. but just watching a few of the things you do and how you explain them has helped me a lot. thanks.
if you have any suggestions for sweep picking, please share. i'm beginning to get it down some, but need help.
It's quite simple. Just as a natural harmonic is hit on a certain node, a "ghost" harmonic is the same, albeit the scale length of you guitar is shortened as your fretting hand is holding down a note.
good video the only thing i would suggest is cleaning up the feed back from you amp and you didnt really teach anything but you have lot of skill good work
Only one comment...PLEASE clean up your connections or whatever you need to do to get rid of that 'waterfall' noise in the foreground. It does detract from the overall video and drowns your voice out a bit.
Otherwise, good on you for sharing with all us fret-heads out here.
(The 'ghost' harmonics are, indeed, called TAPPED harmonics.)
Thanks, but they are not exclusive to Bach and Ive never "read" that term. I am using terms that should be familiar to other electric guitar players who may not be into classical music exclusively.
Hey, first of all I would like to say that you're a phenomenal guitarist. And secondly i was wondering whether you would be able to send me the tabs for these pedal tones as i'm just getting into this style of music and wish to better my playing.
Hey dude..i only just started getting into the whole neoclassical style recently..I'm keen to incorporate some of those techniques into my playing so was wondering if you could email me tabs for some of those sweet licks you played...scottnaude@gmail.com...thanks so much dude
Yeah its better, made real well, has the scalloped neck. The DiMarzios are NOT hot pickups which is one key to warm tone. The distortion is meant to be added/boosted at the amp. has a great neck and stays in tune. Its not cheap, but its worth it.
Its a Marshall Valvestate 100 set on channel 1 gain: Full, Bass: 5, Mid: 4, Treble: 6. I also use a dod YJM 308 preamp overdrive set at Gain: 12 o'clock Level: Full
Well, The bends yes and also the vibrato and the sustain. I cant say anything bad because I love it to death and HATE regular necks now, but some people have a hard time adjusting to them at first. They require you to play with a lighter touch, which is hard at first but pays off in the fact that once you master it you play better and faster.
aj can u tell me please, what really changes playin' on a scalopped neck? i mean, what's are the good things and bad things (one good things is the very high bends, right?) By and ty in advance
This guy is no bullshit. Awesome. Thanks for the video.

nice job and nice fat sound on that strat , the hiss does not bother me , im listening to the playing ,;)

You should've done the ghost harmonic technique where you slide your hand down a string while trilling on it. That one's really trippy sounding.

don't even reply to the haters lad. they don't understand. you play very well. Speed and emotion and it's not that common. good stuff keep it up

no. yngwie has the funky fretboard where each fret dips downward. this guy just has regular strat it seems.

@redgibson1 still looks scalloped to me. If you look really close the board seems a lil deep.
