Glad I found this! it was great to see my old home in Lochee High street with the wonderful old trams. What a change now - nothing like the street it once was.. Just hope the rejuvenation scheme works, but it will never bring back the life there was once. Thanks for posting from an exile in Aberdeen!
Brought back memories of the Lochee High Street where I grew up. Still visit an elderly relative there, but always very sad to see the changes which have taken place, especially the metal shutters on all the shops. Thanks for the photos of happier days!!
My childhood memories of the trams are still magical - Dundee is the poorer without them. Fortunately my family had left for New Zealand before the system was closed down, otherwise I - like other enthusiasts - would have felt the loss more keenly. And now, it seems, the wholesale destruction of tramway systems in Britain is a matter for regret if current developments in a number of cities is anything to go by.
Hello and thank you for your interesting comments. The real problem with the trams was that they ran on a fixed track unable to pull aside to allow modern traffic to pass by in Dundee's narrow streets.
Are you aware that Edinburgh is currently re-installing a tram system. Login and see for yourself.
Thanks for replying. I was in Edinburgh only last week, so had a good look at the dig in Princes St. I wish the loud-mouths would stop criticising the project which will (over time) transform the transport system. Yes, the old tram systems were ill-suited to modern conditions and traffic - which can always be re-routed or the tram tracks given priority. But the logistics are all-important.
Currently, I am afraid not...I am aware that some do exist...I'll search them out...As kids my pals and I played on the line quite frequently especially about Liff Station...its a pity I can't download my mind pictures...Glad you appreciated tram pics

I am just old enough to remember the trams. I used to get on them at Ninewells terminus.
I think the lines are still in the Murraygate.

I've only been in Dundee once - and it wasn't like this, sad to say. Great photos.

I first visited Dundee in about '75 and I've lived here since '85. I think it's a great place and has got better over the years.
