    i dont know if im just missing something but when i create my map the press (F9) it all opens up in tf2 which i want it to but i go to create new server and then click on the map i had just created and then click start which should insantly open the map but it doesnt open it just goes back to the main menu

    can anybody help!

  • @1337SteamHacker1337 The short answer... no. The long answer... yes, but it's not worth doing since it will take too much time and won't look too good due to the lighting limitations in Source.

  • @halo22222q It can cause some problems, since if you have too many variable light sources it messes everything up. Make one bright light somewhere in the sky. Make the brightness something like 255 255 255 100000 and in its properties, make it start disabled. I would then recommend using a logic_timer that's configured to generate a random time, and in the outputs tab for the logic_timer, put

    ontimer

    (name of light)

    TurnOn

    then another for turn off, with a delay of 0.15 seconds or something.

  • @Majescoo It will rain where ever you place the blocks I'm afraid.

  • 2 questions: 1: Lightning and thunder 2: Rain every once in awhile forever

  • @NinjaKittyLOL I think I may be able to help you with that. :) For the thunder sounds, you may want to upload some storm sounds to play in your map. For lightning, you can arrange various light entities to flash on and off using the custom light pattern option. With this, you type in a pattern using letters in the alphabet. A being full brightness, Z being all the way off. (or vice versa). Make a pattern that turns it on/off at quick, spontaneous bursts like "zzzzazzazzzazaza".

  • @NinjaKittyLOL For rain that starts and stops, you have to set an output for the rain, which means "if (blank) happens, make it rain/stop raining. You could set up anything,such as a button, passing a certain area, or a set timer that toggles rain on and off. (you might need 2 timers for this.)

  • @ryanmelv You would add the box in the shower and then make the necessary edits as he showed in hte video. So it would rain in the shower..

    yeah i got it.i ended up using steam and heatwave.looks way better than rain.i have a button linked to the steam and heatwave that works fine for turning on/off but the ambient_generic sound file seems to restart instead of turning off.ive tried messing about with diffrerent settings but cant get it working properly with the button.does anyone know how to fix that?

  • @3kliksphilip ive got the same button for the steam,heatwave and ambient_generic,the ambient_generic settings are "OnPressed" and "togglesound" it turns on fine but when i press it again to turn it off the sound restarts unlike the steam and heatwave that turn off

  • What does it mean if you parent something in sdk?

  • @HumorisLogical It then moves with what ever its parent is. Put the name of the entity you'd like it to be parented to.

    you have any idea? strangely i think they deleted it later on (probably causing lag) but i really want that effect of snow dashing down really fast.. i even think it came from a angle and not just from the top and down but actually came from sides..

  • @Rulictar Probably, somewhere, but it's so simple you're better off just making a block on Hammer, selecting the Clipping Tool from the left hand side of the screen, and trying it out. You click on the block, drag your mouse, and it shows the cut it will create. Best to click and un-click at the edge of blocks, otherwise you end up with odd dimensions (ie, 137.8 units or something similar, which isn't good for Hammer)

  • @Rulictar click the clipping tool once and it will dlete one side hit ahain and it will delete the other, click again and it will delete none

    Quicker way to get it exactly where you want is to select the item, hold shift and drag it. Let go of the mouse button before you let go of shift. It makes a duplicate of the item and you're already moving it around.

  • @ENDORPHINSAM I don't really map for the orange box engine, so I'm not the best person to ask. As far as I know, you can't make it dynamic unless you're pro at coding stuff. and as for the puddles, you could look through the list of triggers and funcs available to you by making a block where you want the splashes to be, selecting it and pressing ctrl+t. Might be in that list, since I remember seeing them in a Valve developer before.

  • If you are making a snow map, sometimes there is a snow texture that makes you slide, to avoid that copy the ground, and make it an an inivsible texture, then a func_wall.
