chas laughton's a mad doctor trying to change wild animals into humans on a deserted island...using vivisection, x-ray baths and plant extact injections, in the 'house of pain'. a boat load of shipwreck survivors is washed onto the island. laughtone wants to see if he can get the leopard woman to mate with the handsome leading man. in the end, poor chas gets a tast of his own medicine.
No, there are many more lyrical references to The Island of Dr Moreau-but more clearly (to me it is the later Lancaster version). the law about spilling no blood, or being sent to the house of pain was a constant theme from that movie.
Ahh !!! Oingo Boingo! A most underappreciated band that had such quality. This song is really awesome how it talks about the rule we humans abide by that animals are impervious to.
And even then... "someone else" makes the rules...
It's not talking about "rules humans abide that animals are impervious to" quite the contrary, the words refer to instinct and other inherent rules in the minds of animals and humans.
@akulkis There is another version of the movie/story done in 1977 also. I've only ever seen the the first two all the way through. Skipped the 1996 one. Was it any good? :o]
u do realize that the song is inspired by the book right?

The two legs/four legs thing is in Moreau. But I suppose if you want to think Danny only ever read one book, it's your perogative.

sweet reply - which book are you referring to?

"The Island of Dr. Moreau" by H. G. Wells, I'd guess :)

@harmonymouse
It's directly from the movie "The Island of Dr. Moreau", filmed in the 1930's. This song came out 10 years before the remake done in the 1990's.

My only suggestion would be to make the music louder. I had a tough time hearing it over the animals and whips.
