neal is not unsung. he is the real deal. please if you are a fan check out T.Mudoon's Smoking in Bathrooms. You may say i'm spamming for a friend, but i really believe in his book and any fan of the beats would dig it. trust me.
@theoldbeagle7 Thanks so much for the recommendation. The book isn't available in Canada, so I ordered it online because I'd read some great reviews. It was worth the wait. I will definitely be lending it to my fellow Kerouac fans north of the 49. His spirit is certainly alive in those pages!
Funny that people are moaning about Carolyn Cassady, when it's apparent to all that the film in question is a piece of shit. Get rid of this bullshit trailer, will you?
"Carolyn contacted me a lot when I was in postproduction. She said that she had gotten her hands on the script and if I let her into the editing process she wouldn't sue me. I told her it was an original work and Neal was a public figure. She wanted control, and her emails got angrier and more threatening. I stopped responding."

This guy is being portrayed as HETERO?
I get the impression the movie glosses over the fact that Cassady and Kerouac were sex partners.
Ginsberg was in love with one of them. I forget which (Ginsberg had a little money, and a lot of influence, and the other two were schnorring off him). Is this movie making it look like they were just friends, and collaborators on whatever vague intellectual product they thought they were producing?
Visually it looks okay, but I fucking hate that deep voice... Hyped up and sensationalized slightly. It's probably shit and it wont ca[ture the true spirt of this era...then again i'm an eternal optimist...
you damn right kyle they don't. yes detroit will patton kills it, but there are a few parts that Muller does better. like at the end when Dean couldn't talk anymore.
This clip has me so hype, even though it focuses on later Neal. On the Road is supposed to be coming out this year, the guy that did Motorcycle Diaries is directing it. Of course getting Dean right makes or breaks the movie. Anybody want to set up a chat or message board or something and talk Beats. my IM zabari39z
I have listened to On the Road about 10 times. and i listen to pieces of it almost everyday. I consider it to be holy book, I can't believe I'm just discovering this clip can't wait to see this movie. Any audio bookers out there. The Will Patton read is my fav and Frank Muller is right behind him. Matt Damon and Arther Adams are abominations, no life in the reading. The Dean has to be right or the story just dies anyway. I'm crazy for NC
saw this IFC film on demand. best film made about beats. i remember seeing david cross as ginsberg in todd haynes' "i'm not there" and it was like watching a cartoon of ginsberg. in this movie, however, they nail it. amy ryan as carolyn cassady? wow! and tate donovan as neal? one of the most touching performances i've seen. smart film. maybe too dark and arty to be a mainstream film in 2009. gus van sant and todd haynes are too sycophantic to make true movies about the beats.
how do i get my hands on this movie??? i've watched the trailer a million times. is it gonna be in video stores or do you have to go someplace else to get it?
cassidy was keroaucs muse, he was everything that kerouac wasnt and vice versa..the fact that what how many years later people are still talking about them means they brought something together that hit peoples fucking nervous system..ie you sales people should be curl up and die until you have a clue
hey what is this film called, i just happened on this site and you know i cant be bothered reading all the vitriol messages, so the name of the film please..
This movie is awesome! Saw it on IFC last night. Not at all your run of the mill biopic. Very strange and different and trippy. And doesn't paint pretty picture of Jack or Neal. Although you do come away loving them-- more than that you feel sorry for them. I loved it. Seriously reccomend it to Beat fans or non Beat fans. Had my doubts about Tate DOnovan, but he pulled it off somehow. And overall it's just a very unique film.
Since when is IFC mainstream media you dumb fuck? And what exactly were you trying to say with your second sentence? That Johnny Depp and Nicole Kidman should star in it? I think you're confused. Do you want mainstream media or don't you. I think you do. This is interesting indie film about Neal that doesn't glorify him like so many other dumb movies have. I saw it on IFC and loved it.
why don't you put that dick in your mouth and hush? I was only making a comment that they have to ruin icons like this.
FYI,know it all, I lived in the Bay Are when I was in college and was able to interview members of the Cassady family and people who had been close to Kerouac and gary Snyder. I even got to interview Locke McCorkle.
you know it all? no one owns neal. so what if you interviewed cassadys or snyder? i grew up in bay area too and used to hang at naropa with all of them. so what? it's ironic how many "beats" are now just close minded people. i have seen a lot of films on these guys and this is the best i have seen. as for mainstream media killing everything-- you wouldn't even know who kerouac was if he hadn't entered the mainstream himself with on the road.
the actors dont quite fit for me, but i can see they would ahve lots of planning problems i,e someone the right age to play a younger snd older neal cassady.Cassady was so athletic in physique - all his life! god knows how he kept that physique, sex I guess and kerouac always wrote that he would sweat prefusely. Does this come out this year?
This actually looks like intelligent film about Neal. Cool. I always thought the really interesting story about Cassady was how he got swept up in the Dean Moriarty legend that Kerouac created. Looks like that is exactly what this movie is about.
Anybody got any clues on where to find the movie? Could be interesting.

it's on itunes and amazon for real cheap rent.
carolyn cassady is known to be extremely delusional and apparently she is still trying to keep neal on lockdown.

Carolyn hates this movie and hopes that nobody sees it.
If you don't believe me head over to her website and read it for yourself.

On The Road by Jack Kerouac pretty much tells all about Neal Cassady.

what the fuck are you talking about?
just because allen ginsberg and william burrough had something it doesn't mean that Jack Kerouac and Neal Cassady were sex partners
you have no idea what you're talking about
guhwc 2 years ago
cassady fucked ginsberg. not kerouac.
but this movie does have some brokeback tension between the two lead actors.
