Actually, this wasn't recorded at Bell Auditorium...this was a studio recording which was included on the 1970 "Sex Machine" double LP. It's a fabulous song, however...but this long version exists in mono only, according the "Soul Pride" compilation.
Sex Machine " LIVE" on the Polydor label show cases this cut live with an into from James live with his bad self in his hometown, Augusta GA. Bad Ass Record.
this was on an lp with a cover "spinning wheel" by blood sweat and tears its worth looking for. he was so ahead of his time it took 20 years for music to catch up
Cool upload I have this on single and it's one of my fav instrumentals, thanks for uploading nice to hear without the crackles piercing organ still jarrs me but makes the track.
12 comments.. 5000 views.. that's a lot of repeat. i guess everybody cant appreciate the finer things or they wouldn't be the finer things.. keep grooving.. to those true cats out there.. keep it greasy..
I am still searching for the JB produced singing group that overdubbed some lyrics on this beat around the time Mother Popcorn was released. I think the track was called "Soul, Soul, Soul"
Lowdown Popcorn definition: Nasty, greasy, old school funk jam. No talk and all walk. Drenched in butter fat. An addictive ear snack. A beat that talks loud to you and does not allow you to talk back, only nod your head, pop your neck, snap your finger, etc.
@meechamaka411 -I do go to Church. Some times the spirit creeps up on you through music, a solo, a sermon, etc. It makes you wanna testify. I grew up listening to a bunch of sweaty, screaming, holloring preachers, backed up by chiors marching in and singing like armies going to war. I have seen James Brown ten times. His shows were revivals, often over three hours long. His band was always a big army of musicians, who always seemed to bring it, no matter who's bodies were in the suits.
@Buckeyecat2002 WOW...I don't go to church, but I respect the vibe, 'n kno' how it goes down up in there!!! I can only imagine how funky, but spiritual a James Brown jam (especially back in the days) went down!!! I can definitely dig it, 'n really wish we had artists of this magnitude doin' the do nowadays!!! The closest we got was brothas samplin' James' joints, but even that has stopped (which kinda took the "hip hop" out of hip hop music, 'n transformed it to "rap music" (the imposter music)!

Rare. This version was not on the "Live at The Appolo, Vol II" album. This is cold greasy shit. What LP/CD is this on?
Buckeyecat2002 3 years ago
previously unreleased, only included in James's 1993 'Soul Pride' collection of instrumentals.

@arXter Dunno if anyone's already mentioned it, but it was also on the Sex Machine live LP (with audience overdubs)

@arXter Actually it was released as a single on the King label backed with another great instrumental, "Top Of The Stack", released in 1969.
