  • this guy was incredible sadly he isnt around anymore....unbelievably good rabab player!!!

  • They need to make this site deaf people friendly mainly for the 3 deaf people that voted thumbs down for this cause they couldn't hear the beautiful sounds coming out of that instrument through the means of one of the best rabab players ever.

  • WOW Beautiful!

  • zabardast upload

  • beautiful music.

  • Wallahi Ustad omar's rabab is unbeatable, it makes you go to sleeeeeep..ouf hai hai

  • @PASHTONYAR no man it makes you listen it again and again ))))

  • Nice. Chishti sounds halfway between "Krsna" and "Krystos."

  • master of masters....realy amazing.....

  • The Legend

  • pashtoons only

  • Brother, thanks for visiting. However I should point out,

Hazrat Khwaja Buzurg, Moinuddin Hasan Chishti, Sanjari Ajmeri, May God sanctify his secret! called Gharib Nawaz,

    1. was born in Sanjar [aka Sinjar & Sancar], Khorasan, not Chisht e Sharif near Herat. His grandshaykh was from Chisht so all those in the Tariqa take the name Chishti.

    2. Rabab was invented long before him.

    3. Hazrat Gharib Nawaz was a Husayni Seyed, not Tajik.

But we're all brothers & the children of Adam. Peace.

  • May I add that some of the borders that we have today of Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan, etc. did not exist back then, regions were called Khorasan, Hind, Sindh, etc. Besides, some of the greatest scholars of Islam came from the region of Khorasan, like Imam Bukhari, Moinuddin Hasan Chisti, etc.

  • @AFGHANZCLIP Hi, are you by any chance a demented fool? I never said Khurasan was in Iran, Pakistan, India, Russia, Albania, or whatever the hell is out there. I said that the countries we know as today were not recognized by their name as we know it today, they were recognized as regions.

  • @RumiBalkhi lol where do you get your info from. What is your evidence?

Robab was invented in central Afghanistan, Shelgar, Maqur, Qarabagh ( present day Ghazni).

  • Cool,

Guru Nanaks main musical accompniast was a Muslim named Baba Mardana, he also played this instrument.

It is so awsome to hear it.

  • What are you talking about? Of course Pashtuns have their own music. Stop posting wrong information

  • rabab may not be invented by Pashtuns, but almost all the tunes played on rabab in Afg/Pak are pashtu tunes. tunes of Pashtu folk songs. listen to Humayon Sakhi of today, he is a tajik but in all of his videos you will see him playing pashtu tunes.

  • Sure. Pashto music is great. So is Kashmiri rubab and Tajik Rubab and Irani Tenbur, Tar and Setar! Or African Kora for that matter... It's all good stuff man :) enjoy.

We are after all, all the children of Adam & Eve.

    Peace and God bless.

  • Actually rubab as we know it is invented by Pashtuns.....the rabab is the national instrument of all "Pashtuns" - if there is such a thing. It forms a vital part of all Pashto musical pieces- without the rabab Pashto music is incomplete.

  • very nice

  • god bless rabab and all the ustads and all the listeners..

  • Good of you to point it out. Of course versions of the rubab are played all over Central Asia, not just by Tajiks. I did mentioned Kashmir, Kashmiris are not Pashtuns either.

This particular piece sounded Pashtun to my admittedly Pakistani ears.

  • Selaab: what do you mean, "all the tunes played on rabab in afg/pak are pashtu tunes"??

All regions of Afg has its own distinct and beautiful Rubab pieces. Homayun chose to play 'qataghani' piece in his Central Asian series CD released, besides playing two ragas.

In the 'Air Mail Music', Ust Omar plays two beautiful songs from north Afg. There are great Herati pieces by Khushnawaz in Rubab. You should broaden the repertoire of Rubab music that you listen.

  • I didn't say 'all', instead almost all. the ones you mentioned are rarities. the bulk of peices played on rabab are pashtu tunes. Ustad M.Omar and H.Sakhi both played mostly pashtu tunes and on some occasions peices from northern and western Afg. that I don't deny nor have any problem with. read your own comment, 2 peices by Ustad M.Omar, one or two here and there.

  • guys this , tajik this who give a fuck!!! what are u guys trying to prove? we are all afghan and Robab is afghan insturment!

  • Rabab is invented by AFGHANS and Homayun Sakhi is Afghan. End.

  • I heard that pashtoons invited the first nasa spacecraft 5 thousands years ago.

  • Wow. You failed at being funny.

  • Music was never forbidden for centuries. But probably during the Taliban times. There was no strict policy about not playing music back then, but yea obviously your not suppose to play any music during ramadan. And by the way I said rubab was invented by AFGHANS. I didn't specifically say what type of Afghan. Either tajik, hazara, uzbek, pashto, or any other race living in Afghanistan I consider them Afghans. And you jump to saying pashto..

  • Prove it if that's what you think.

  • History is not maths to be proved.

  • Fine then if you will be that way. Why is the call for prayer (Allah Akbar Allah Akbar) in a tune different than we speak?

  • @KisaiKagai, I have a different opinion. Rubab has its origins in India (and by India I mean the entire Indian subcontinent, in that way, even Afghans are Indians, culturally though, do not take it otherwise). During the Mughal era, the Seni Rubab used to be popular among the Hindi speaking population and was frequently played in the royal courts. You can search for Somjit Dasgupta in youtube.

  • @KisaiKagai, Other instruments which look like, have similar sound quality and are played in a posture similar to the Rubab are the Dramyen of Tibet which is known as Damphu in Nepal. The Dotara of Bengal region (consisting of India and Bangladesh) is extremely popular in Bengali folk music. Another near extinct instrument is the Swaragat or Swarabat of South India. The Sarod of Classical Raga Music is also a very close relative of the Kabuli Rubab.

  • @KisaiKagai, Sculptures of The Buddha playing a similar kind of instrument has been found out. In the manuscripts that instrument is referred to as the Chitra Veena. It is highly probable that this Chitra Veena was the ancestor of all these above mentioned instruments. However, this can be a hypothesis and you are free to comment upon if not shatter and debunk my argument.

  • @MZLTMBCJMN Okay cool I respect your opinion. Sorry I don't have the time to respond to this, I'm very busy with school.

  • i have the entire video of embryos journey to afghanistan in 78 , with footage of them jamming with Ostad Mohammad Omar . look under embryo & Omar , it will be on in the next week , just need to segment it all.

  • I'd like to see that. Please upload it :]

  • namekhuda...

    a true Afghan talent... respects

  • Does anyone have footage of Aziz Herawi on rubab? Thanks.

  • I think if one says he was the best ever Rubab Player in Afghanistan and in India, it will not be inappropriate. I like very much his joint play with Zakir Hussain in the US in 1974. That's a memorable piece in the World Music.

  • Oh! The grand master himself! I never thought that there was footage of him here on YouTube.

    Amazing!

Homayun Sakhi cites him as a major influence, and now I see why!

Peace be upon you, ustad Mohammad Omar!

  • Famous Bihag Alap by Great Rubab Master, Ustad Mohamad Omar. Each note is played with great dexterity, producing full profound tonality of the instrument. His Rubab is totally different from others!
