  • yeah

  • wouldnt pass the flex text

  • No.. but considering it's stock.. but then I'm thinking it would pass the "Git 'er done and over the hill" test..

  • It's just their factory electricallly activated locker. Call your local Toyota dealer or call some wrecking yards..?

  • how do I get a diff is this with the TRD package ? I have the same truck but not TRD please answer

  • I am trying to decide between a nissan frontier and a tacoma

  • Toyota for sure..

  • i just was there, i bought the frontier, because they gave it to me 1700 below invoice, a decked out king cab for $24,300, vs the $29,700 toyota competition. i liked the tacoma a bit better but i couldn't bring myself to doing that

  • this is one of the best trucks built from stock factory to go offroad.

  • dang, get rear lockers.

  • @OneFabFisher It's got a rear locker.

  • Duh.. IT HAD ONE.. I was testing the difference between unlocked and locked.

  • nice u got TRD OFF ROAD package. One good looking Pearl Black.

  • Thanx.. I bought it brand new. I put 36.000 in 1 year on it.. trouble free.. then traded it for a silverado and then traded it for my current '03 Dodge 2500 CTD. LOVE this truck. I added an AFE cold air intake, 4'" exhaust and free flow muffler and the EDGE with attitude. up to 100 hp on the fly. IT is pretty fast for a big 3/4 ton 4x4 truck. Fun to race sports cars.. especially in the rain.

  • strickly old school tacoma's!!

  • Ouch. Did more on the first trail out in my 2002 than you did in that video. In 2wd!!!!!

  • I love my 09 OR DC... the TRD sport is gay

  • I have an 09 TRD Off Road..... Best truck ive ever owned and driven in my life.

  • good demo of the diff lock

  • what is Rear Lock diff used for, I have it on my 2010 tacoma.

  • It turns both rear wheel at exactly the same speed. Ever had one tire in the mud/snow and one on hard pac? One spinns like a bitch with the other just sits there? Thats when you want a diff lock, or as in this vid when one wheel is off the ground.

  • are you kidding me? lol.

  • ...honestly? im 15 and i know what a diff lock is... google it.

  • should have bought a tundra, pulls way better than a chevy.

  • u shouldve locked the diff then ud get up there

  • The whole idea behind this was showing the difference between unlocked and locked.

  • @brucesterj did you get any HP with the air and the pipe?

  • Yes.. but didn't dyno it to know how much. It would roast\spin the tires alot easier and was a little quicker. I added an AFE cold air intake on it also. Look for my other video of this truck.. the one on the beach.. lol..

  • oops... should have watched the video before posting..

  • wowowow! so today old! no more new!

  • I traded it on a Silverado. Needed more towing\pulling power.

  • You must be retarded.

  • nice video, what kind of muffler do you have that sounds nice?

  • Flowmaster series 40 with dual borla exhaust tips and on the intake side, I added an AFE cold air intake.

  • what in the h*** where u doing?

  • this truck gets me wet... hahahah

  • indepentdent suspension is not my favorite yet still good trucks.

  • never mind on that last post. i now have an 08 double cab silver tacoma, and i have tested it all out for my self. i took it up to 45 with the diff lock on and it never shut off. and i made a sharp turn with the diff lock on, and it was just a little hard to turn the wheel. this was before i noticed the sticker on the driver side door that more or less said. don't take it above 5mph with the lock on, don't make a sharp turn with the lock on, only use the lock in an emergengy. oh well, to late.

  • thanks for posting this video though, it's the only one i have found that actually demonstrates the differential lock on the tacoma. and by the looks of it it works well. i was wondering though, at what speed does it shut off? and if you make a sharp turn does it grind or make any noises or does it shut off or what? thanks.

  • thanks for the fast response, and your right a double cab does take a lot of bed space away, but i like the look of the shorter bed. not that i dont like your truck. i really like the blue on it.

  • yeah.. it does. but if you don't have much to haul in it.. the extra room inside si nice too. It's called speedway blue, it was my first choice too.. but they had mine on the lot with all the options I wanted.

  • what was the grind about there at the end? nice truck by the way. i plan on getting one, exept i think im going to get a silver double cab.

  • The grind was becuz I was still moving and I put it in park accidently. Thanx.. 8 months old and it's got over 26,000 miles on it. gotta love them toy's..! Access cab and double\4 door use the same frame. You'll lose alot of bed space with your choice.

  • I accidentally put in park while I was still rolling. ANY auto trans will do the same. I just upgraded to a fullsize. I know where you can find it for sale..! I took a hit by trading it at a carlot, but I got what I wanted.

  • MYBAD for the delay to your question.. I stuck in park when it was still moving. ALL auto trannies will do that.

  • @brucesterj um i beg to differ, i have a 08 yota two wheel drive with a perminant from factory lock in the rear end and it wont stick in park, nor does my jeep, come to think of it, that is the only time ive heard of that, so you might want to get your tranny checked

  • Sorry.. not clear on what you mean.. "won't stick". Stock toyota 2 wd's won't have a locker. This is a 4wd with the electric rear locker. It was unlocked from the start of this test.. then as the wheel left the ground it spun.. I locked in the locker and that put the same power to the left rear wheel and pushed the truck up the little hill. There is and was NOTHING wrong with it. That's the way it's supposed to operate. Truck was BRAND NEW. there wasn't anything wrong with the tranny either.

  • @brucesterj its a trd sport with a possy track rear end, with hardly no slip at all, like i need tires every six months on the back end if i dont rotate them, and i read the being stuck in park thing wrong, thats my bad, but one thing i have to bow my head down to on you is, my jeep goes anywhere 3 wheels isnt a stick situation, but the price tag on the tacoma makes where i dont have the balls to get it into a situation where its only on 3 wheels haha

  • ok so u used the diff lock right?! How did you get it to engage so quickly? Mine takes forever.

  • I push the magic button and it locks in..! Shouldn't be a delay. Call a dealer about it.

  • i really like your truck :)

i will have mine in a couple of days or weeks . so anxious to have it to

  • I truly enjoyed it too. Was great offroad for a stocker too.

  • nice truck.. i kinda wanted to see you go over the hill though..dang i was so...wanting to see that.

  • thanx.. too many bushes beyond them. It was fun testing it out though.

  • Man I wish I got the Off-Road package instead of the Sport. Sick truck man!

  • I bet you love that beast!

  • I did while I owned it. Had to upgrade for more pulling\towing power.

  • Would like to see a TRD Sport "Limited Slip Diff" in the same test. Great demo - Going to Buy'

  • sure..

  • hey man nice truck ! i just got the same exact truck yesturday! what option did you get on yours ?

  • Thanx.. Was a great truck while I owned it. I just upgraded to an '04 4x4 access cab, Chevy Silverado. The Tacoma wouldn't pull the tractor, trailer and the implements I need it to. I put 35,000 on it in the 1 year I had it, all trouble free. Be sure and put a freeflow muffler and a quality cold air intake on it. I got 24mpg on the highway @ 75mph with mine. Mine was loaded with most options.
