  • Thanks for letting me know - did not notice this post was quite old!

  • Weaving brushes might be worn, or try hanging a cast-on comb.

  • Unfortunately the Artisan isn't set up in such a way as to hang a cast on comb without the ribber attached (or in the very least I can't figure it out). I've finally got the machine working though. I replaced the sponge bar and a good portion of the needles and now it runs smoothly.

    Thank you!

  • Hey there! My machine looks very similar to yours. It looks like you're doing it right. Hope you get a new sponge bar soon, because I think that's it.

  • It looks like you are doing everything right. That probably means it is the machine. Check:

    1) No sticky needle latches

    2) Tension is ok and the yarn is not getting caught up

    3) Lubricate the rails, etc to ensure smooth movement of the carriage

    4) Check the needle retainer (sponge bar) is not compressed. I recently replaced the sponge bar on a couple of machines that exhibited similar problems and it fix them right up....

    Happy knitting.

  • I cleaned everything again and put more lubricant on. I've also taken out all of the needles, soaked them, rubbed the sludge off and put them back and pulled out about 5 needles that weren't opening and closing as nicely as the others.

I'm going to replace the needle retainer bar as soon as I can afford to.
