I'm having a little hard time with my operatic vocal training!! i always thought i was a lyric or a spinto tenor!! now with the maturation of my voice it seems to be that I'm a leggiero as i tend to hit easy the hit piches, but kind of losing in the low ones!! and man it is really confusing, it'd be great and advice of price herself XD
Leontyne singing Im Abendrot is just grand. She has the right voice for Strauss but I much prefer Martina Arroyo singing Im Abendrot. She has a more subdued voice that is quietly spiritual and yet big enough for the Strauss music, with a simple, heart-felt rendition. I love Leontyne but if I had to choose between her and Martina's 4 Last Song played at my funeral I'd chose Martina.
That legato is SOOOOOOOO right!!!! Why do we always think of "ritorna vincitor" when we hear her name?!?!?!? I suppose the italian repertoire made her rich and famous, but she could cross those musical barriers better than Nillson and co.
Thank you, again, Onegin for all this listening pleasure.
Thanks, Onegin65. My "correction" was in no way intended to disparage you. As a matter of fact, we, Price fans, are all in your debt. Let me also apologize for the exchanges! We should all enjoy Ms. Price's singing and stop sniping at each other. Thank you again!
Well, I must say that Onegin65 accepted my corrections without the venomous attacks that I received from those of you who obviously do not care about language. The corrections which I shared were meant -- not to disparage Onegin65 -- but to help "correct the record" for those of us who love and speak German. If I offended your delicate sensibilities, then I apologize.
Although known principally as a Verdi (and Puccini) singer, in the 70s Leontyne began to turn to the music of Strauss. She recorded the Four Last Songs and an album of Strauss opera highlights. She also added the complete role of Ariadne to her repertoire, recording the role and performing in onstage (including the Met). She showed herself to be an excellent singer in the Struass repertoire with the size of voice, beauty of tone, and long vocal line required.
To 4lebenbaum: It's a shame to emphasize an orthographic mistake. Onegin offers us treasures for FREE. You're a very disagreeable and thankless person
I agree with you, and it is for that reason that I shared the other corrections with Onegin in a private message. But, I must say that you guys are some delicate Nellies.
"Nuts," to you, too! On the contrary, I've expressed to Onegin on many occasions my gratitude for having shared with us the marvelous performances by Price.
Harsh and confused sound, it's a pity... but stunning singing.

@MastersoftheOpera I wouldn't compare the two. Just appreciate their renditions for the beauty that each merits

Didn't know she sung these 4. Her Ariadne I must find.WOW!!!

I find all these four songs done with this conductor too fast, without the relaxed tempi that seem to me more suitable.

It sounds like Price and the orchestra are in different rooms. It's a shame, her voice is wonderful in Strauss!

@mjmacmtenor Why make conmparisons? They are two different singers.

The title is "Im Abendrot" -- not "Im Abendrof."

Correct spelling is important when you're searching for videos by song title. I'm just saying.

Yes, but there are more elegant forms to correct, like sending a private message
