I am so glad the poison pill of the Late / Great Lucky stores killed of ABS... Now luck is back in Nor Cal only as a subsidiary of SaveMart.. no where never the same, but it is nice to see the name back up on the stores... Missed the BIG L... Luke E. Stoors!
I remember having Lucky in So. Cali years ago and then Albertson's bought it out. We also had Savon...but I don't remember Albertson's merging with that...?
Supervalu, which purchased Albertson's in Calfornia, made a deal with Grocery Outlet in NorCal. They sliced up Albertson's; the Grocery Outlet's NorCal store have retaken the Lucky name and Supervalu has toyed with the idea in SoCal. Bring back Stephanie Edwards and relaunch Lucky!! I bet you anything the name will be welcomed back with open arms!! I miss Lucky and Alpha-Beta.
Yeah. Albertson's "married" Lucky... and then Albertsons "dumped" Lucky like a cheap whore in less than a year, and bansished its name to oblivion. Getting rid of the Lucky name and its model of doing business, in favor of Albertson's, was a huge mistake.
albertsons hella sucked i used to work foralbertsons but then they sold the nothern california stores to savemart then savemart bought the Lucky name so now i work for Lucky its pretty sick
This "marriage" is one of the things that put Albertsons in the heck hole. If corporate mgmt weren't so stupid, this merger would never have happened in the first place! Now we have Albertsons as nothing more than a walking mummy! Down here in Florida, about half the Albertsons stores have been eaten up by Publix!
Texas still has Albertsons? I lived in San Antonio when they left South Texas in 2000 and now in Austin I sometimes see empty parking lots where Albertsons once where. At least in ATX we still have Randalls to pick up the slack.
Austin has Randalls, as does Houston. The Dallas/Fort Worth area, where I live, has Tom Thumb. (I think Houston and Austin both have Albertson's as well..I don't know, as I only go down to either of those places on occasion)
Nope I live in ATX for college and all the Albertsons here closed sometime ago. I have an empty lot by my apt that still has the bldg that housed an Albertsons, logo is washed off and black but you can still read it. We just have HEB and Randalls here in ATX and SA has only HEB..
..this was the start of the demise of Lucky, Sav-on drugs and Albertsons.. What a foolish mistake it was in the first place, and a bigger mistake to rebrand it all as Albertsons...
I bet we won't have any Albertsons left in two years...
I dont think albertsons is in california anymore, there are still albertsons on the east coast and middle of the U.S.,being ran by whoever owned the bay area stores prior to savemart. maybe it will be like it was prior to albertsons 8 years ago when we had Lucky.
They used to have Albertsons in Oklahoma, but they all switched to Williams or Foodland. They tried it here in Topeka, but didn't fare well. I miss Albertsons, their 10 for 10$ aisles rocked! I did see newer Lucky signs from I-80 but wished I could have gone in, haven't seen 'em in nearly 10 years..
Well at least there were not any grocery labor strikes when Lucky was around. Now, one in 2004 and another one on its way. That's what ended those price-competitive supermarket ads. Give me Ralphs anyday.

Wow, I didn't know Lucky was part of the Albertson's family. The stores in TX (where I live) have become Albertson's/Savon.

The "marriage" was more a disaster than anything else. It turned what was the best grocer in California into a grocer lacking an identity.
