This is why I never felt comfortable with the Catholic church. Living in sin is just too much and the way those early church leaders lived! Kind of ironic that Jeremy Irons ended up playing the part of a Borgia pope.
A really excellent bit of acting - and direction. I'm no Lady Julia, but I sure feel the way the character does here, sometimes, and Quick portrayed so well the way that sort of pain rips through you and then settles in, becoming a more quiet despair.
I was in college when this was first shown on PBS and was enthralled. I've had a 20+ year crush on Diana Quick and wanted so much to be like Jeremy Irons. Either that, or Mickey Rourke in 9 1/2 Weeks...!

This is my favorite scene in the series; it conveys so strikingly the power and beauty of the Catholic faith, the "twitch upon the thread," etc.

Daina Quick is definitely hot although I preferred Rachel Ward (Thorn Birds) all those years ago - bet they both still look stunning now!
