In Michael Moore's documentary "Bowling for Columbine," the gun issue came up. The question arose: Why do Americans commit murder with guns at a rate that far exceeds the Canadian murder rate per capita, while Canadian gun ownership per capita equals or exceeds US? This is a statistical fact. Would someone (esp a Canadian) please explain that to me?
Shawn, I applaud your position on guns, but personally I don't like them.
America has a huge uneducated underclass. I believe the US has more of its population (as a %) in prison than any modern, industrialized nation. It is also among the most religious. The success of a country rests in the quality of its citizens.
Hey Shwanerd, nice to finally find an atheist youtuber so close to home! I defiantly agree that the political situation in canada is incredibly boring. however, i think it still important for us canadians to take an interest in whats going on politically, because it has a big impact. when i can vote i will most likely vote liberal for similar reasons you mentioned
Actually religion leached on to the marriage issue, it didn't start it. They act like they're all important so they want to take credit for things like creating the USA.
Ah. I have a powerful emotional aversion to guns. I just don't like them. But I would never support making them illegal. That won't stop anyone from getting them except for people who are interested in following laws, i.e. the people who wouldn't have hurt anybody anyway. But urgh, I can't really imagine enjoying guns. Whatever makes you happy though...
Zero tolerance policies do ban pencils, you cant sharpen them to be them being pointy. In europe, they have a knife problem so they restrict knifes. Just a little info, I am a libertarian personally, i want ALL drugs to be legal. Anyway, nice video.
disarm your population and then control them with the fear of criminals with guns. I dunno if this was intentional but it's what a lot of nations do by banning guns. Granted then you get them to pass laws signing away their freedoms their ancestors spilled blood for.
I am very similar to you on your stances. I am usually liberal with my views except with gun control. I went online to research data about guns back when i was against them, and so far, every bit of data has shown that as you increase gun control laws, crime increases. Of course, the issue is more complicated than that, but again, ive never seen evidence so far that supports the idea of gun control.
In terms of guns: allow them. I live in England and the only ones who can get guns are the black market weapons dealers. Bad people get guns, they use them in crimes, victims have no defence. It's all so fucking stupid and so damn obvious. The government should fuck off, the cunts. And the so-called unarmed police of the UK are slowly being replaced by armed "peace officers" who carry MP5s to "fight terrorism". People are too stupid to realise terrorism's all in the mind, literally.
Not to mention that people inclined to crime are heavily outnumbered by decent people who would help a fellow citizen and stop crimes a thousand times more effectively than the fucking police, a.k.a crime-report-filers.
This fits with drug legalisation in that most crime, gangs, etc. are caused by restrictive laws that push would-be innocent behaviours, eg. drug taking, underground to be taken advantage of by unscrupulous men.
I think we should keep all drugs illegal. I mean, what's the government going to do with the billions of dollars of revenue per year? I'd rather the money go into the hands of the nice dealers who exist to fill the gap where legal shops would be. They need the money to buy guns to enforce debts. Of course, the war on drugs uses many billions of violently extorted money but it will be won one day if we just pump more money into it. Legalising them will make drugs seem SO accessible and boring.
Better title for this thing: portrait of a person who happens to lack belief in god. I mean seriously, what's next? Portrait of a coffee-drinker? Portrait of an action figure collector?
And as for the gun thing, Shwa, you're only sticking to hunting rifles and collectibles. What about someone who wants an AK or an AR-15? I mean....not saying they shouldn't be able to have them but damn...if you're required to register a car, why not a machine gun?
All of the paperwork, licensing, registration etc. is not something I think should just be dropped, so you can just go and buy a gun like at a texas gun show. I DO want these kinds of "gun control" methods to be less time-consuming, money-wasting, things like that. I mean... in this country you have to call the GOVERNMENT to let them know that you'll be taking your gun(s) to a shooting range. If you got your license, you shouldn't need to be treated like an immature child.
Fair enough, I agree. Personally, I don't really care about guns and the only ones that bug me are the ones specifically made for efficiently wounding/killing humans, but that's just a personal thing.
What do you think of "open carry"? I actually like that better than concealed. If the whole idea is to have the thing to deter/defend ones self against crimes, seems like a bank robber or a mugger would think twice if he saw you with a pistol in a holster.
You probably expected this from some people, but I'll say it anyway. I don't like guns. It might be a chick thing, er whatever. I mean, I think it's important that people be able to protect themselves. And I even think it's probably a good idea to keep a gun in your home. But it's just not necessary to be carrying guns around in the city. I lived in California all my life until recently. Now I'm living in Georgia where you can carry a gun if you have a license. I'm stunned whenever I see one.
That aside, everything you said made sense. And it's fun to shoot guns at inanimate objects. When I was really young my dad's friend used to shoot disks on a hillside in Nor. Cal. I tried once. No one warned me about the kick on his rifle. =(
The ownership of firearms transcends the practicality of armed citizens against armed criminals. At the end of the day, life, liberty and property, the three things that have the most value in modern western culture, have no meaning if people lack the means to defend them from thugs or tyrants. All people have a right to defend deadly force with deadly force. Laws against firearms are a tacit approval of submission to death and subservience.
Hmm, soo... you want a gun, because stabbing people in the neck is too much work?

That's terrible that you had to experience the side-effects of careless/hateful individuals. Now, I know that both of those events are sensitive topics but, honestly those were not problems gun regulation would have fixed. The problems here weren't the guns. The abusive asshole of a father was one problem. The unsafe, reckless use of a gun by an immature kid was the other.

I want to make sure that guns are still being kept in the hands of responsible and safe people. Still, both of those cases are tragedies, and I wish they hadn't happened.
I'd like to see anything which places religion as the creator of the institution of marriage. Seems like it goes back at least 5000 years and all societies utilize it in some form, regardless of religion.
I wouldn't shoot animals simply for sport; my grandfather's been hunting for several decades, and whenever they get a deer or a moose the entire animal gets used. They sell the fur, maybe mount the antlers, and we eat EVERYTHING.
I know you're a veggie... but holy crap moose burgers taste good!
No, I am not veggie. Goodness, I like meat :). But I hope in the future we will be able to make some meat by technology of cloning, or whatever. My point is that killing anyone for fun is bad. Thank you for your reply.
Tissue scaffolds and muscle culture ^_^ all of the meat, none of the mess ;) You still need animals to provide the tissue... but you don't need very many and it doesn't harm the donor ^_^
I'm with you, Shwa--a liberal who supports gun rights. It might be because I spent time in the army and don't see guns as something evil--they're just tools, and can be used responsibly or irresponsibly, like any other tool. A friend of mine lives in Canada and owns a couple of guns...it sounds like it's similar to owning a gun here in California, actually. A few bureaucratic hoops to jump through, but not all that big a deal.
I'm a moderate US liberal and I have to say I have a paradox too. I believe in the death penalty as opposed to life in prison, it's cheaper for the US and at the same time it seems justice if a killer, rapist, child molester, or some hardcore criminal gets the death penalty. And don't have them wait in line, kill everyone on death row immediately. I'm also prochoice so I guess you can say I'm very pro-death. It's scary but I see the positives in death. \
for example, i live in glasgow. it has, historically, been a very violent city and still is, but there has been no massive jump in crime through the ban on guns.
poverty is the main cause of crime in glasgow and many other british cities. in most area's of glasgow you have no choice but to join a 'young team' (gang) where violence is not only encouraged but actively saught after.
this has went on for generations. my grandfather has told me of his and his fathers recolection of the gangs.
dude i fucking hate Harper! anyways im not huge on the Liberals Party im more into the NDP and the Green Party but they're all better than the Conservative Party in my opinion. i dont drink, smoke or do drugs but i do want marijuana legalized cus if fucking cigarettes and alcohol are legal why not weed and im 100% all for equality and gay marriage and abortion but im not a gun person at all so i really dont care if guns are harder to get... so ya im a pissed off left-wing Canadian atheist haha
violent crime has not went up because of guns being banned, its went up throught a factor of things shwanerd, your stuff is always good so please don't hit out with false statements like that again.
mass immigation, social segregation and gang culture have been the major cause of violent crime, along with better reporting and correlation of data.
Right on with the Guns... I'm a liberal leaning person on virtually everything, except guns. There's nothing wrong with guns, the problem is that there are so many nutcases here in the US that violence has been a problem. But if everyone was armed and you knew it, people would be a lot more respectful.
abortion has it's place i know this not first hand but from people that have known. after all rape victims and those that are having complication with pregnancy. Liberal do have some good points and NDP do as well at times just don't have the backing as much Liberals do. Yes the paper work is stupid for guns some laws are good though i have to say. well getting old weapons is hard to tell you the truth as my family has some and well the paper work for that sucks i am told.
You might be thinking of "grandfathered' weapons that USED to be legal, but are not anymore. You could own assault rifles in Canada at one time, and you CAN own them still if you bought it before 1980 or something. Ridiculous registration process, however. I don't think its the same for something like an old single-shot sharp's rifle from the late 1800s!
We're still subordinate to the Queen of England. We do absolutely nothing for her anymore... and we make all our own laws, legislation etc.
But we still have the Queen.... sort of.
But over in Britiain is where the real problem is. Guns banned, knives banned... and a whole lot of innocent people getting shot/stabbed since criminals don't give two shits about those kind of laws.
im a liberal and i support gun rights, basically when it comes to peoples private live the government should stay out as long as your not hurting anyone
I'm new to this channel, sorry if its been answered, but what's the point of wearing a mask when you have other videos on this channel with you face showing? Curious.
I believe Britain has banned carrying knives. Seems silly and counter productive. All that it ensures is that criminals KNOW that honest people that abide by the law will not have a means to defend themselves if attacked with a gun or knife. This was an enlightening video. Well done. Good call tagging Vogter2100 by the way. I'm sure he'll be quite interesting. Peace. -Max
but all you have to do is call the cops, and try to stay alive for several minutes and hope that the cops arive and save you on time. ANd if you don't, well at least you tried. /sarcasm off/
You know, maybe if the bad guys shoot/stab you in a vital artery... you could spray your blood in their eyes! That could give you the precious seconds needed to escape the situation... and bleed out somewhere safe!
Hmm, didn't know I was tagged....guess I could do one.

Point is, Britain has ALWAYS had much stricter gun laws.

You forgot one thing about Canada.
That queen bitch.

We need to get her off our back D:

Well yeah, that Queen in England.
I really think we can do good on our own.
Having tea with her once in a while is nice but she's so... ancient civilization feeling. Herself and her title.
HomoCyborgZombie 2 years ago
We're still subordinate to the Queen of England. We do absolutely nothing for her anymore... and we make all our own laws, legislation etc.
But we still have the Queen.... sort of.
But over in Britiain is where the real problem is. Guns banned, knives banned... and a whole lot of innocent people getting shot/stabbed since criminals don't give two shits about those kind of laws.

And it made for one of the funniest sketches in Kids in the Hall I remember (hope you know who I mean, its a bit before your time)
Are we still part of the Commonwealth? I like to joke about that with the brits in WoW.

I'm new to this channel, sorry if its been answered, but what's the point of wearing a mask when you have other videos on this channel with you face showing? Curious.
Sconz32 2 years ago
there is a chance of some people from his church seeing this, it also has a certain sentimental and relevant significance regarding his suspension.
devtamagi 2 years ago
I realize that, but he has his face showing in other videos here. If people want to see who it is all they have to do is go through his upload list.

@Sconz32
You saw a video of ShwaNerd without his mask?
Did I miss that or you were mistaken?

I dunno, could be wrong.
