@RyWhitakerGuitarist Is that why they've been touring the world for thirty years? As opposed to sitting in their bedrooms fantasizing about playing in front of a real audience like you?
@RyWhitakerGuitarist You are such a winner, man. Really just so cool. Metal is definitely the least ridiculous genre of music in the world and in no way only performed by people who have read too much Tolkien.
@wakooooooooo HaHa, seriously! I suppose watching guys in leather chaps singing about dragons would be good for a laugh but I just don't get how metal-heads can take it oh so seriously. They actually think it's high art or something! Bizarre.
Mana died in New Jersey while touring with the band DMBQ. On November 4, 2005, another vehicle crossed lanes and struck the van from behind. The van went down an embankment and rolled over. Nishiura was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. :(
I had no idea until tonight that Mana passed away. I remember after seeing "SK" in Nagoya Japan(Tokuzo club),drinking beer and chatting with Mana. She was so cool-and a GREAT drummer. She gave me her used, beat up drumstick too, which I still have. Wow-I cant believe it~
@servo1056 Sadly, the good die young...Mana was universally loved by everyone who knew her; a person who never hurt a fly and was always willing to help others
@servo1056 Yes, the tsunami was a terrible thing, let us hope our Japanese friends and their families are ok... speaking of family are all your in-laws safe?
@Shoknifeman so far so good but nuke poison is a serious thing.this is very bad.....very very bad and the news dont tell the truth about whats going on...
That true, but it wasn't their original drummer. I think she left the band by then so I think this is the drummer that died because it doesn't look like the first one. I've loved this band since 1992 when they put out "Let's Knife". That album is one of my favorites of any group that would include The Beatles, The Doors, Nirvana, Love or Jimi Hendrix.
The original moved to the bass, but now is not really in the band save for special occasions as she moved to LA. The drummer in the vid did die in a car crash in NY. There is a new drummer and bass player for Japan gigs and recordings.
The drummer that died in NJ was a replacement drummer. The original band is the one that recorded "Let's Knife" and a couple of more. I wish I would have seen one of their gigs in Minneapolis around 1998 when I lived there. It was the last time with the original. But, you're right that they have a new drummer and bass player. The only original is the singer/guitarist Naoko. I still have "let's Knife" on vinyl. A masterpiece of 90s alt/indie rock.
The drummer that died was Mana Nishiura (who is playing in this video). She was a tour support drummer. Atsuko, the original drummer is the bass player here and she quit when she moved to L.A. after marrying. She is playing bass on the current 2007 tour. They have a proper drummer now, Etsuko, but no bass player....so many changes!
I kind of lost track of the band after awile so it's nice to see that they are still around because they were one of my favorites and I think they would have rocked live. I just found out they are playing a couple of gigs in LA and I live in Vegas so if I have the time I might try and check them out. I still got a couple of their stuff on vinyl back in MN. Might have to make a trip back and get them.
Yeah, you really should try and see'em. I've seen them about 10 times in Toronto and New York
going back to the early '90's. They were always a fun show whether it was Naoko/Atsuko/Michie or Naoko/Atsuko/Etsuko or Mana. They have a much tougher live sound and are very tight. A lot of fun.
Hopefully they'll play in Vegas, too, because that where I live now. You never know because some good band come here while others don't so much. Unfortunately, I'm not in to the current music scene these days so I probably miss alot of good band. But, I bet it good not to see some of the horrible bands out there these days. Shonen Knife was a fav back in the day for me.
6 years ago last week we lost little Mana, as they say, the good die young; RIP angel

I read the drummer died in a car crash in New York City, and the bass player got married and quit... anyway, I really like them.
