Of course Meph has it in for Marguerite and Faust both - I notice in some productions this part of the opera has him dragging her over the coals about her mother (dead of sleeping potion overdose) about Faust (definitely unrelieved sexual tension there!) and the baby she's about to have out of wedlock with her brother coming home from the wars any day now. This production raises the argument that she is begging Fausts 'friend' to help find him and help get her through this- hot flash.

Well he messed up her life tottaly! Maby this is like the last begging to save her? Maby leave her alone. Don't know really but you know this is the scene where she looses her mind. So god knows whats going on your mind when you go crazy. :)

I don't know really in what part you saw that... But I guess that is what did the stage director wanted. You should see him, he was explaining EVERY part of the action by doing it himself!With such an intensitivity.. He is brilliant!
