This was a belter of a race for Mansell, until leading, he gave his Lotus a bit too much on the white lines & lunched it big style....! Team Manager Peter Warr thought he should have won this race, & made his decision not to re-sign him for the following year, & brought in Senna....& so started some proper F1 history.......
@rmrvideos It is surprising just how safe those cars were. de Angelis died in a testing accident in France, but I do not recall any fatalities besides that (and very few serious injuries) right the way up to the mid 90s when Ratzenburger and Senna died. The cars were to get a lot safer, certainly, though I'm not convinced that more recent innovations (the refuelling era, limiting the replacement of tyres and other safety-critical components, etc) helped.
