In the end I believe it was poor management and marketing, not diminished product interest, that caused their demise. Corners were cut to supply numbers, and they didn't advertise like the rest. It's still nice to see guns holding the Winchester name, but they are not true Winchesters. I love their new SX3 shotgun, but it's a FN product with the Winchester name on it. Hopefully Remington, Smith and Wesson, Henry, and all the other American greats can maintain their presence.
Winchester certainly lacks in marketing. I love their 45 grain 223 40 round box. It went from $11.98 to $23.98 at Walmart so I called them to ask if I could buy the 45 grain bullet to make handloads. They said "we sell enough of the 45 grain 223, we don't need to sell the bullets". Well I don't buy either now. My last new Winchester Large loop 44mag hammered the magazine tube out of the gun in 150 rounds. Traded it in for a Remington. Screw Winchester. Screw Nafta, 1 time agree wth union
Winchester should have seen the writing on the wall long ago and changed their ways. They should have gone to high quality instead of quantity. The 94 lever action was just not as strong as other brands
to hotwelder2010 thats not true at all...bolt actions are the reason levers aren't so popular. Winchester should have done more maketing, perhaps built a 45 colt replica to go along with there levers to brought back western tradition into there firearms. at least there still being made... BTW, my Japanese Browning lever has better fit, finish and action than any American rifle i've ever owned if you think foreign made hurts quality...

another reason why winchester 30-30's aren't as popular is because they eject shells from the top, and you can't put a scope on a gun like that, and people prefer scopes.
i think one of the reasons why people aren't using 30-30's that much is because people prefer the 30-06. winchester is selling guns again, and that's exactly what they're producing -- bolt action rifles.
@gbtga You are the dumbest mother fucker on the planet if you think that is true. You need to brush up on your history! Cliton, Yes I know it is not spelled right because he is a douche bag. was the reason that we have no jobs in America. He singed a bill called Nafta, North American Free Trade Agreement. I was origionaly meant for the the three north american countries. The United States, Mexico, and Canada. Now you know, and can't blame this one on bush you dumb ass!
