This is one of those songs that I tend to rape the replay button. Amazing performance of this! The women sounded beautiful together, same as the men. Wow, just wow.
I sang this song in seventh grade with the eighth and ninth grade select choir and it brought me to tears just about every time we were asked to pull it out. I absolutely love this song, it's one of the best pieces I've ever had to sing in a choir.
By far my favorite song I have ever sung in any choir I have ever been in (and that is truly a compliment because I have literally sung hundreds of choral pieces over my 19 years of living) but this one just makes my heart soar. And this is probably the best recording of it I've found! :)
I got this piece yesterday, and I'm singing it with what is usually my high school's 12 person Jazz choir at a funeral for a recent graduate of my high school tomorrow. This recording helps so much. Thank you. I didn't even know him, but this is going to be so hard to sing such a powerful piece for that occasion.
The chamber choir of my school performed this piece two years ago, and ever since then, I've been in love with it. I truly think this is an amazing piece. :) <3
We were to perform this piece for our UIL, but as a high school choir, i believe that we were much too young for this piece, but we did the best we could. I love this piece. It always pulls on my heartstrings. Seniors, 2011, you will be missed. We love you!
I am in this choir, and sang in this recording. We worked our butts off to make this song our own. It holds a special place in my heart. This inspired me to go into conducting.
Excepional. Beautiful. This is, by far, the best performance of this piece I've ever been blest to hear. It did, indeed, sing me to Heaven right here on earth! Thank you.
This song is BEAUTIFUL and means the world to me. My choir teacher had us sing it and during one of our first rehearsals, I had found out about my uncle's death with melanoma. I sang this song with tears in my eyes everyday from that point on. It is such a wonderful, mesmerizing song.
I was so glad when my high school choir director swapped out "Hosanna to the son of David" for this song. We will be singing it at our concert in remembrance of the founder of our schools show choir, a man now passed that our director new well..
I always get sooo emotional listening to this song, it just brings back amazing memories of my high school choir. Beautiful picture choice, I always imagined this kind of sunrise/sunse throughout the song, especially during the very last chord.
Chills the entire time. I am singing this in choir right now, and it is absolutely the best song I have ever sang in any choir. This recording is so beautiful <3 Thank you for posting!
this is the best one I've personally been able to find, the voices sound like they're mostly together and the harmonies in the song are beautiful and really add to the feeling of the song leaving you speechless.
When my conductor compared Daniel Gawthrop to Eric Whitacre, I thought he might be exaggerating. Whitacre is a genius with the notes. But as soon as I heard this, I understood. Whitacre may be the Mozart of choir music, but Gawthrop is subsequently Beethoven. (who was better in my opinion) With this in mind, thanks for posting.
I love this song. It is just beautifully amazing. I love the meaning behind it and I can't agree more with the absolute truth that it portrays. I sang this in my choir and though we were not perfect, it was chilling every time we sang it seriously. This brings back many memories!
I'm singing this in my choir at school! Instead boys and girls singing this, it's just all girls! (I'm a girl too!) It sounds pretty good so far, but this choir is WAY better than my school choir!
I was in a choir that sang this song. We were all very close with the director, and she told us that she wants us to sing this song at her funeral. I'll forever keep this song in my heart...one of my favorites.
only one criticism. more lip around the sound so as to avoid the spread lip sound. other than that, spectacular intonation. Gentlemen, you entrance at "touch in me..." was flawless. consonant entrances seem to be difficult for choirs which is a shame. Go to your nearest capitol building and sing it under the rotunda. it will be divine.
Glad you think so! Dr. Jim Shepherd of Austin Community Choir directed us and intonation is one of the main things he makes us work really hard on. (I'm in this recording...)
We're singing this song in my school.
They did it a few years back and actually accomplished an overtone at the end, so I'm excited for it. It's just gorgeous.

That "chord" occurs in measure 32. It is technically a C#m9 that resolves itself in the 4th beat of the measure, but yes, it does grab 'hold of you!

@showjumper5280 Try listening to *Sleep* by Eric whitacre, its a song of dissonant chords. It sounds like that and amazing

@blackrain49 Or any of Eric Whitacre's work. That man is in love with cluster chords and dissonance. But it's so beautiful how could you not be!?
