  • I still think Exposé is better.

  • Nice demo! I have a macbook pro from 2 months ago and i still didnt know what spaces is for, now i know it, thanks :D

  • just wait for mission control in lion....

  • Eh, something I don't need. I've also disabled my dashboard

  • Linux has had this for almost 10 years.

  • Finally i understood about Spaces. Thanks, great explanation!

  • Finally i understood about Spaces. Thanks, great explanation!

  • this was a great video! Thank you!!!

  • nake something complicated look simple, thats mac lulz (flames away)

  • This was great! I have used Apple computers for awhile but never as a work station computer. I just purchased the new IMac and wanted to see what this was all about. I'm very glad to have seen your video first. Simple and to the point. Thank you.

  • can somebody please tell me how to put it as an icon in your doc?

  • How do I get spaces to appear on my dock?

  • where do you download this? I have snow leopard will it work?

  • nice video. wow. you should have done more videos. please make more vids

  • any linux system can do this.......

  • you should have kept making vids.... ya only have one. thanks for this, liked it.

  • probelm i found with this is... how do you know which space has which program open? e.g i go word on screen 4, if i am in screen 1, and i try to maximise word, nothing happens, i need to try find it or remember which spac i had it open

  • Handy stuff Tam. Well done

  • SPACES IS RITE FO PORNO!!!

  • or you can just minimize the apps...

  • @ExTProDucTioNzZ or you can use Spaces!!!

  • clearly genius

  • what program did u use to record that video clip?

  • Comment removed

  • Thank you

  • I use 9 spaces on a daily basis. That white box below the "rows/columns" lets you assign an application to a window so every time you open that application it opens in that window. For example i have firefox set as #5 i have all my IM clients as #4 i have itunes as #2 i have ical as #3 i have mail as #6 and x-moto as #8 etc etc. I spend most of my time in the center screen and everything i use often is just one or two screens away. There are a lot more functions of spaces you missed.

  • In general it is over kill when you are using Expose... It's kind of cool if you are doing web publishing and a bunch of massive multi tasking...

  • lol Spaces are great for porno :D

  • @iiGerardoii :DDDD hmmmmm.....

  • can i assign windows 7 to a space, so when i switch between spaces i can switch between operating system?

  • @nijat1991 Then you should use virtualbox in one space.

  • thanks

  • Great demo. Do you know how to set it up so that you can hit a function key and you'll go right to Spaces? I keep my dock hidden most of the time, and anyway, FN keys rock. Thanks!

  • A good friend of mine recently switched from PC to a Mac. I showed him this video and he's quite impressed. Thanks for posting this tutorial!

  • Of course, Apple invented multiple desktops with Leopard. Not as though that was on many Unix boxes back in the 90s. They didn't have the hip cool name "Spaces". Thanks Steve Jobs for telling us what we want/need.

  • Thanks for the vid

  • and where are these other videos you said you'd be posting???

  • Love ya! You've made me start using spaces after 2 years of not knowing what the heck that was! :)

  • Linux's 3D cube/wall desktops simply blow the market away... In fact, if Linux had more programs, Linux would be 96% of market share, and Windows that 0.98%. OPENSOURCE OS FTW

  • thank you so much; clear, logical, and coherent.

  • genius

  • Thanks to LINUX .... you now have spaces, years after Linux had it. Apple / Mac users are soooooo amazed by stolen ideas!

  • "Expose within Spaces - clearly genius" LOL. Why do you talk like you're in one of Apple's commercials? Normal voice/tone should be enough for these kind of demo.

  • @BeyondResolution how dare he say genius?!? clearly he meant magical!

  • You did not directly address what happens to desktop icons. Do they all remain the same on all "desktops," or does each "desktop" give you a fresh empty space that can accumulate it's own icons (that are visible only in that space)?

  • how do you get your spaces in your dock?

  • You'll find the Spaces application in your Applications>Utilities folder. Simply drag it to wherever you want it in the Dock. It worked for me in OS 10.6

  • macs are amazing

  • @miragracevids your mother is better

  • I use 10 spaces

  • i guess this guy has never heard of minimizing haha

  • Dude you got way to excited for a very simple and not so helpful application

  • that's it?

  • spaces is so useless

  • Not when you run multimedia editing projects you need to switch between.

  • wayyyyy too siked on this shit. faggot.

  • How can I put spaces back in my Dock?

I don't remember removing it, but for some reason its gone.

  • Wish mac had realized that part of the appeal of spaces would be to have a different wallpaper on each different space. Oh well, at least someone was smart enough to make Space Suit that adds that functionality and it's free.

  • you just made me love me mac hella more. gracias. <3

  • "thank's to Mac you can"

Lol, Linux has been doing this for years, noobs. Also, on Windows you don't need an OS upgrade. Free apps has also been doing this for yeaars (yes, before this video was made in 2008)

  • i lold too when he said that!

  • This guy is way too obsessed with spaces, sure it organizes a little bit but expose is just as simple and u dont have to do all the clicking and dragging

  • thanks helped me out a lot

  • thanks.

  • thanks man, but i use spaces with desktop manager, and if i'm in a empty space i can't open a new program without going to the first space, could you help me out? thanks.

  • does it need to use much more of your cpu and ram to have multiple spaces all with diff things?

  • No, it needs just as much as if you had it in one space.

  • Hey, thanks for posting this. I'm wondering, what makes sense as far as organizing spaces. For example, when I use iMovie I also use iPhoto a lot, does that imply that it would be most effiicient (minimizing clicks) if I had iMovie and iPhoto in the same space??

  • Me I love apple.

  • hes right

  • you sound like a douche

  • naughty naughty...

  • Haha.. I use Spaces on my MacBook at class..

I use 2 spaces, one for Facebook and one for Word..

When the teacher is not looking I'm facebooking :D

  • you're a genius!

  • ahahahah

  • spaces sucks! Windows taskbar is more functional.

    bloody mac...

  • WTF? no it's not..

Windows taskbar sucks so many balls..

    PC Nerd -.-"

  • if u start spaces can u ever exit out of it and not use it again

  • Thanks for this, saved me time and frustration

  • Yes. Linux have had it for years. But I have to agree with tayers, it is by far not as good as on Mac OS X.

  • Thank you for the tutorial. That will save a lot of time and frustration.

  • Wow! This is new to me! And I like it. Thanks so much for the time to show this to Mac newbies. I'll be using multiple Spaces- at least 6-9 (or more) for Open Office docs!

  • word! this guy is like "omg who has more than 4 programs running at the same time :O"

    so funny ^^

  • Linux is nothing compared to the power of Mac OS X. I will openly debate you openly anytime. :)

  • @tayers281 AGREEEEEEE WITH YOU

  • if you use another space, will it slow your mac down any?

  • it will not

  • ha ha he is a fag, but he knows this......

  • Thanks! Now if you could make a vid showing how to transfer applications from an old mac to a new one it would be greeeeat!

  • Not sure I understand the advantage of this really.

Yeah it looks nice but surely its only adding another process into the work flow?

I've always used 'alt/click desktop' to hide apps of just 'apple/tab' to switch between apps.

I'll give it a few more days though..!

    :)

  • first off, what is your username? and you think that I'm a fag? haha. Secondly, this is a demo...it is clearly marked as such. so if you do not need a demonstration of spaces, why are you watching this video?

  • @howtodothingscool bloody hell, calm down. as your username so says "howtodothingscool" that was not at all cool. and dont call other people a MACFAG cos the mac reaper might come in your sleep to eat you alivee...!!!

    LINUX FAG!

  • You're very good at demonstrating. You should do more of these.

  • I have 9 spaces running all the time - and I occasionally find myself using all 9 =P

    ht tp : / / img381. imageshack. us / img381 / 281 / picture32ti1. png

  • I have it set to 16 spaces . . . with a two monitor setup :-) = 32 spaces!! I use about 9 though. Final Cut Illustrator Photoshop Safari and iChat Entourage M$ word ImTooDVD and DVDpedia iWeb iPhoto Sadly I do use them all at the same time, god bless apple for hot keys :-)
  • If you wanted multiple desktops just use linux...they had it first and it looks a hell of a lot better on linux than on a mac.

  • Ok... Ubuntu is my favorite version of Linux however, Mac wins hands down on multiple desktops. You can not tell me that the interface is more graphic on linux. When your talking about looks, Mac is better than Ubuntu everyday.

  • I wasn't talking about everything. I was just talking about the Multiple Desktop feature. In ubuntu the multiple desktop feature, In my opinion, looks better than in OS X. Besides Linux and OS X fans both agree...windows sucks.

  • I use ScreenFlow to record my Mac screen

  • whats you recording software??

  • What is your screen recording software that you are using? It is really smooth.

  • is it only on 2.6Ghz Macbook Pro

  • hell no its on all macs

  • I also have assigned spaces.

    Space's

    1. Mail

    2. iTunes

    3. iChat

    4. Nothing

    5. Safari

    6. Quicktime

    6. Final Cut Pro

And who said final cut pro would not run on a macbook it works great on mine.

  • Im sorry. I mean Aperture 2. That was my fault

  • thats ok

  • No the keyboard has the preset as well press F8 for spaces and F9 for Exposé if the key has something on it press the function key first. I'm sure you know how to do that.

  • I only use 6 spaces. Oh and dashboard was introduces in !0.4 Tiger.

  • Well actually the Exposé button was not in tiger. Exposé was introduced in 10.3 panther and you would press F10 F9 F11 it would do different stuff with Exposé.

  • haha "Well you know what? It sucks! I'm tired of it. I want clean desktops." Great video Mr. Tayers281. You should make some comedy videos.

  • very good vid.

    thanks.

  • Nice Demo
