  • Thanks for the upload!

  • 0:35 What a delivery for an off-spinner

  • I love Murray Bennett's arm ball at 2:15. I think he rolls his fingers over the right hand side of the ball and actually makes it turn the other way. It's one of my favourite individual deliveries in cricket history.

  • The Best West Indies XI in History Gordon Greenidge George Headley Brian Lara Viv Richards Garfield Sobers (c) Everton Weekes Jeff Dujon Malcolm Marshall Joel Garner Michael Holding Curtly Ambrose
  • I saw most of that test live. One thing I remember was that the crowd cheered when Bob Holland bowled his first ball and turned it a long distance. in the next 2 series (England and NZ) they could only win on turning pitches. I wanted Australia to win, but I wished Lloyd had got 100.

  • I went to this game

  • such a beautiful game destroyed by those corrupt lowlife indians !!

  • i would include fart johnson in that team ....man, was he intolerable !

  • Considering the quality of the batsman, Bennett's arm ball to bowl Viv is a better delivery than Warne's Ball of the Century.

  • @paulfield1. viv misread it---wasn't really an armball, was a chinaman.

  • @paulfield1 I doubt either Richards or Gatting could have played either ball. I'm glad to have found this Bennett Ball though what a corker

  • The Side that I mentioned below I believe would have beaten any side in the History of Cricket. George Headley, alone was something else. They called him the black bradman as a nickname for his exploits in batting.

But an to look at the West Indies card if a opposing sideddid manage to get out cheaply Greenidge, Laura and Headly. They still have Sobers and Richards. It would break your heart to see Sobers & Richards coming in.

Now those 2 just hated bowlers full stop and would destroy you.

  • Where does Gus logie place if this side was ever created?

Gordon GREENIDGE, Brian LAURA, Richie RICHARDSON, Gary SOBERS, Viv RICHARDS, Clive LLOYD (C), Jeff DUJON, Malcolm MARSHALL, Michael HOLDING, Joel GARNER, Courtney WALSH

West Indies cricket past had these players below to come on if any of the team above got *injuried*: They had Andy Roberts. Curtley Ambrose, Gilchrist, Slyvester Clarke, Colin Croft, Wanye Daniel, Ian Bishop, Walcott, Worrell, Weeks, Roy Fredricks & George Headley

  • Dropping Walsh for Ambrose, surely. Otherwise, spot on.

  • I've had another thought here. I would drop Richie Richardson & put in George Headley at Number 3.

Gordon GREENIDGE, Brian LAURA, George HEADLEY, Gary SOBERS, Viv RICHARDS, Clive LLOYD (C), Jeff DUJON, Malcolm MARSHALL, Michael HOLDING, Joel GARNER, Courtney WALSH

West Indies pace attack I would still stay with. But they still have the World class Cricketer &all rounder who is Gary Sobers who was world class at bowling at any style. So if a Spinner was needed over. What a side this is above!

  • @redjam40 Good side, but I'd suggest a couple of changes. The 4 best bowlers for tha pace attack are: Marshall, Holding, Roberts and Ambrose. Garner and Ambrose are swappable, but honestly Roberts must be in-place of Courtney.

And I would suggest Sir Frank Worell be given a place. Perhaps Gordon should get the axe. We ae talking about the ALL-Time best Windians and clearly there were better players than Greenidge.

  • What a great side:

Gordon GREENIDGE, Desmond HAYNES, Richie RICHARDSON, Larry GOMES, Viv RICHARDS, Clive LLOYD (C), Jeff DUJON, Malcolm MARSHALL, Michael HOLDING, Joel GARNER, Courtney WALSH

Just needs Gary Sobers and Brian Laura in their in place of Larry Gomes and Desmond Haynes and it would be the best Cricket team in Cricket history

  • good but I would actually include Gus Logie in that. The guy was small but had real ball$ to play his position with pace coming like that..Very atletic and devastingly accurate with throws

  • Can someone upload some of Gordon Grennidge's best innings??

  • yeah i remeber that innings(Lloyds) does anyone have the Brisbane innings he made 114 broke a few tiles on the GABBA

  • For what my comment is worth. I would still rate the West Indies of the late 70's and 80's the best players ever. And I am from Australia. The only weakness they had was playing against spin bowling. Also I am an Australian cricket tragic.

  • Historic match - the match prior to this was drawn ending the WI's then world record 11 consecutive Test wins - this was their first loss in 27 matches. It was a false dawn for Australia however as the Sth African defections occurred and we embarked on our least successful era in Test history. Bad old days!

  • The least successful era for Australia was 1982-85. The subsequent years were much more prosperous.

  • And can we dare say that this "false dawn" was brought by C J Macdermott's arrival in the Aussie side?

His debut test was a draw at Melbourne -- A rare feat against the then Windies. And his second test was a win against the Windies -- an even rarer feat. In both the matches this great prospect, that never quite fulfilled his promise later on, bagged the priziest wickets of the West Indian batting powerhouse.

  • I had the official program too! Although I've since lost it :( This was the first summer that I ever got into cricket. this test in particular caught my imagination. I was 14...man I'm old...

  • You and me both mate- I saw this Windies team at the Lords test '84- during the first of two 'black-wash' series against England!

  • wow..Lloyds final test innings! Any more test match videos from this summer? I have the official program for that year, but never saw any matches cause I was 3 yrs old back in 1984/85!
