  • the fuck...

  • I still wonder if L Ron was really Bat Shit Crazy, or he figured out how to con stupid people out of their money, or both.

  • @The4LA2Baker0 "You don't get rich writing science fiction. If you want to get rich, you start a religion." - L Ron Hubbard. he said that in 1948. five years later, in 1953, he founded the curch of scientology. you do the math...

  • TheWordOfBod,

OK so he was a con artist, was he insane?

  • @The4LA2Baker0 there is evidence that he had psychiatric counsilling after the war but i think he was a clever man who knew exactly what he was doing. i don't think you can be "bat shit crazy" and manipulate people as he did. just like a lot of cult leaders, though, he was definitely border-line...

  • @TheWordOfBod How do you explain Hitler?

Psychopaths are some of the best manipulators...

  • I recon a bit of Messiah complex. Starts off sane and when he becomes the word of god and starts believing it, gets caught up in his own fantasy and turns crazy - like heaven's gate guy, who legitimately started to believe his crap.

  • harryfmk,

LoL, i like that explanation, it seems to fit quite well.

  • Cheers!

  • Scientology?

    Nah. Let's locate something else.

  • its an orientation exercise. never mind how it sounds, if it is done on you you end up feeling more aware. i know it sounds weird but it is very true. it is nothing to do with hypnosis

  • I've been in a hypnosis group session before. It was exactly like this. Others felt the way you did, more aware, afterwards. I broke out into tears after the session. It was horrid, knowing I lost my own will to someone else...

  • what a load of bullpoop! what kind of idiots are these? i would be laughing my butt off after the first, oh, 15 times he said this.

  • this is how hypnosis works

  • CULT LEADER... this reminds me of the Jim Jones tapes

  • wow i'd love to do this. but i don't like locating people. i'd rather locate something else.

  • "Let's locate the guns"

    "Ok"

    "well did you"

    "Yea"

"Now let's shoot ourselves in the head"

    "ok"

    "well, did you?"

    (crickets)

  • aaarritte lets locate teh audior

  • -Alright, what is your profession?

    -HA-OOH! HA-OOH! HA-OOH!

    -Good, what is your profession?

    -HA-OOH! HA-OOH! HA-OOH!

-Well fine, what is your profession?

    -HA-OOH! HA-OOH! HA-OOH!

  • wow...i have located many things leave me the hell alone xD

  • this sounds alot like brain washing

  • yea definite suggestion is being used.

  • What's the crowd saying?

  • "Okay"

  • Graar. Your intuition is correct. Repetition is one of the set of techniques that are used to create the suggestive state. Viewing the Derren Brown videos on speed hypnotism will make this point. When people are audited, they are put into a suggestive state. Interestingly, the auditors do not know they are hypnotising their subjects, they only know they are creating some state of mind in the auditee.

  • I seem to remember a hypnotherapist using similar tactics on me when I was a kid.

  • And people pay to do this...

  • HYPNOSIS!!!!!!

    SHUT 'EM DOWN!!!!

  • I would just "LOCATE" the Exit and walk out.

  • lol

  • Got a Scientology Dictionary and looked this up. Its called Locational Spotting. They initially ask you to mostly locate objects, and very infrequently yourself or the auditor. As they go through more sessions, the frequency of 'locating's of themself and the auditor increase. This gradual process makes them end up focusing more on the auditor unconciously according to the dictionary. tl;dr its brainwashing.

To locating an object just means to focus on it or draw your attention to it.

  • How come Scientologists radically declare they are ANTI PSYCHOLOGY when they are clearly practicing such 'controlling' and 'influencing' techniques of the mind ??

  • That is because by convincing the lower members that psychology is evil, it is alienating them from their main source of salvation, as psychologists are really the only ones who can help them cure the brainwashing.

tl;dr, they are brainwashed to hate people who can cure brainwashing.

Interestingly enough, the dictionary describes psychology as exactly what scientolgy is, and describes scientology in a way very familiar to psychology. What a way to confuse people...

  • ok ya know what the fuck is the point of it?Scientology is fucked up.

  • It causes people to dissociate. Dissociated people are like sheep: docile and easy to order around.

  • And what do they SAY is the point of this???

  • What the hell? Very weird...

  • and why exactly do people think this a crazy man? this stuff just gets more and more pathetic, no wonder Tom Cruise is insane

  • Alright, let's locate your credit card!

Alright, let's locate your bank account!

Alright, let's sign that on over..

    Excellent.

  • alright let's locate somebody else

  • auditing is fucking wierd, they stare at you for hours in a dark room and make you become really uncomfortable and it puts you in a strange hypnotic trance which breaks you down psychologically

  • Alright, let's locate your money for this audit!

  • mm,aalright lets locate the broken Record player

  • retard

  • He stole this technique from Tony Robbins

  • NLP techniques

  • mmallright, lets locate the cult.

  • It's a tool to make people keep affirming in chorus. It's not so much about being servile, but rather making them feel unnatural when they don't mindlessly affirm and obey (which in effect IS servility, but it's a fine line). Much like Christians forcing people to say "amen" in chorus after a prayer, which (if I remember rightly) means "I believe" or something.

  • If a Christian "forces" someone to say amen, it's not really a true Christian or a heartfelt prayer. And the word "amen" means "So be it" it is appropriately put at the end of prayers as a statement of faith. As in "Lord heal my sickness, so be it (amen)"

    JAH bless

  • Okay, "forcing" was poor choice of words, but if you ever don't say 'amen' when everyone else does, you feel very out of place, don't you?

  • I guess it depends on the individual. I know at my church lots of people sometimes even my pastor just says the prayer and then no one ends it with Amen. I mean everyone says it sometimes, but it's not really a requirement or anything. But I guess at churches where they make you feel guilty for not saying amen that would be a true analogy.

    JAH bless

  • Yes Noobix, and there is an experiment filmed on here by Phillip Zimbardo illustrating this exact common trait.

  • So say we All.

  • It's a "discipline" exercise. Note that all the responses are the same. They're playing "Simon Says", practicing being servile. Some kinda NPR/hypnosis crap.

  • WTF IS THIS SHIT?

  • I wish he'd locate my boot... IN HIS ASS

    SIDEWAYS

  • "Now jump out of the window."

    "Yes, sir"

    *JUMPS*
