  • Thank you for this tutorial. Well done; clear with good visuals and quite an understandable explanation. I feel confident that I may now pick up the odd looking instrument I purchased at the thrift shop and create something wonderful, beautiful, and useful. Your additional handy tips and pen invention for easier processing and manipulation of the yarn is very much appreciated. Thank you again!

  • this is the stupidest yarn i have evar seen

  • I would LOVE if you'd do a tutorial vid on how to loom knit fingerless gloves! They are really trendy for tribal fusion bellydancers (I am one) and I would love to know how to make them so I could possibly sell them in my classes... thanks! :)

  • where can i buy these? ?

  • What size bulky yarn are you using? I am using a chucky #5 and my shawl came out looking like fish netting. I thought about doubling the yarn but I cannot get 2 strands down the pen barrel at one time. Thanks for your help.

  • @Aku499 it looks like mikey is using a 5 ply yarn here ....the thicker the better if you dont like the holes in your projects...you could dbl up your yarn.....a trick to getting the yarn through the pen is to use a pipe cleaner or piece of wire to pull the yarn through the pen if your still having trouble you may need to find a wider pen hope that helps....cathy@mikeys helpdesk :)

  • @mikeyssmail Thank you for a quick answer. The pen cases I use have a second piece at the bottom that narrow's them down even more. Will try with that little piece off. Thanks again.

  • why is mine curling upward ..is it too tight? help, I don't know if I should keep working on it so it will loosen up or just go ahead re-do... I already invested some time on it .

  • What's the clear thing you have on the yarn? Need it ASAP

  • @Live4Dancing32623 empty pen

  • @Live4Dancing32623 hello.....the clear thing you see mikey using in the tutorial is an empty pen he is using to wrap the loom.....you can use any empty pen that fits through your pegs on your loom and then it becomes a styler pen :) cathy@mikeys helpdesk

  • @mikeyssmail thankyou so much! this helped me a ton!

  • i love you

  • Thank you sooooooo much... i've been looking ALL over trying to find out how to make a shawl and i never could until i saw this video...now i can make one for my aunt before christmas ^.^ again i thank you so much!!!!!

  • I wouldn't use the hook they gave you with the looms because they can catch the yarn because they aren't smooth at the top. I use a weird pin that my dad calls a "squirrel pin" that I can hook to my loom so I don't lose them.

  • Thank you so Much ,,,,,yu made it so easy for everyone to understand,,,,cannot wait to see more of your videos...thanks again

  • how do you loom knit fingerless gloves?

  • @kim3lise mikey doesn't have a tutorial on how to loom knit fingerless gloves and I looked but didn't have much luck finding a video on it on youtube either.... you may just want to goole it and search on the web for a pattern or explanation......Cathy@ Mikeys helpdesk

  • @kim3lise ... fingerless gloves in general are just a rectangle -- which can be made out of any stitch, on any loom, to any appropriate size – that is folded in half and stitched up the side, leaving an opening for the thumb. Or, to knit in the round (on 24-peg loom), using 2 strands of yarn, start with 6-8 rows of ribbing; switch to e-wrap or knit stitch (knit stitch makes a tighter weave) for a few rows; then knit back & forth (flat panel) for 6-8 rows (creates thumb opening); -- next --

  • @kim3lise ... then e-wrap in the round for 2-3 rows; finish with 2-3 rows of ribbing. Bind off with flat panel method, knitting the knit stitches & purling the purl stitches. Weave in yarn ends. Make a 2nd one. I've made dozens of these to send to deployed troops in care pkgs -- could probably do it in my sleep. Hope this helps!

  • This is an amazing idea! Thanks so much! I'm going to use this technique and make an infinity scarf. I love how this won't take as long too cause you skip pegs. Genius! Thanks!

  • Totally awesome and fast. I never thought of turning the loom upside down.

  • I just love your videos, I can watch you all day, I am going to make shawls with my large loom and give them to charity, the elderly will love them.

    thank you

  • how many yarns for one shawl?

  • So how do I bind my first row to look like the last one?

  • Great video! could you tell me how much yarn do I need to make the shawl?

  • Hello Mikey,

I have 2 unfinished shawls because I don't know how to cast off with this pattern, could you please make a quick video on howto? I tried once, and well .. . It was no bueno. I would appricate it much!

  • @kathryndiann hello.... good news.... he already has a how to cast off the loom tutorial if you search "how to cast off the loom properly" mikeyssmail on youtube the video will pop up for you in the list!!! cathy@mikeys helpdesk :)

  • Hello! Exactly what kind of yarn did you use for this project? Im not too familiar with yarn brands so if anyone knows any good brands of yarn that are pretty thick, which I like, please feel free to throw any suggestions this way. Many thanks!!

  • @ichiucandy i believe this is lion brand homespun yarn that mikey is using but any fluffy thicker yarn would work....cathy@mikeyshelpdesk :)

  • Thank you, bel video !!!

  • how do u cast off the loom with a shawl plz plz answer i need help

  • wow i tryed it and everybody tells me its butiful and thank you

  • You will be happy to know that I am currently working on the loom to make a shawl. I figure it will take a couple of panels. I liked your pen idea but I did not have a pen that would work so... While I am waiting on finding the proper pen I got a straw like from McDonalds. It is a wide straw and I reinforced it with a collar of tooth pics and tape. It works well for a temporary substitute until I can fix up my own pen tool. Thanks again for all your help.

  • I bought one of those looms a while back but just did not get how to use it? You made it look so easy!!! I am hoping I can find the loom and if not you made it worth buying a 2d set. You are super awesome!!!

  • @Jen1971atCraftyKnits hello..... yes the directions would be the same if you used a WW yarn but you may want to use two WW strands at the same time since the WW is thinner..... using one strand may leave big holes in your work or be too loose......hope this helps......Cathy @mikeys helpdesk

  • Trying to make a shawl for my husband's grandmother, who has been diagnosed with cancer and she is scheduled for surgery on Thursday, and would love to have this finished by then! Thanks!

  • I just want to start by saying, I love your videos. They are so helpful to me and very easy for me to learn from. My question is, how do I cast off a round loom when making this shawl? I have it to the point where I am ready to cast off, and being new to loom knitting, I'm not sure how to do that. PLEASE HELP!!

  • Beautiful project. You are a gifted teacher. Thank you for sharing your talents:)

  • can you use a square loom instead

  • thank you so much for posting this video after many months of trying to figure out what I was doing wrong, this helps so much. Just one question, do you have a pattern for a triangle shawl for the yellow loom if you ever do please could you send it my way, thanks so much angela...

  • Absolutely fabulous! I know what to do now, thanks!!!

  • Now I've seen this, I would like written instructions. Is that possible? I think after seeing it I could follow them w/o a problem.

  • I just love this idea for Hospice grief shawls I make. It makes a softer feel with the two strands of reg for ply I have. Much better than my crocheted shawls. Thank you!

  • wow the pen thing is an amazing idea! my next project i will do that! and it is a lovely pattern for a baby blanket by making a few or more of those lengths and sewing them together! ahhh i cant wait to start it!!!

  • can you make a kniffty knitter

  • Well with a Michael's 50% off coupon, I purchased the set of circular looms, purchased a skein of loom yarn, and sat down to try my hand at loom knitting (all the while looking at my Brother KX390 Convertible Knitting Machine). Well 30 minutes later I was rather concerned, because there does not appear to be much accomplished. I thought to myself, if I were making that hat on my knitting machine, I would be more than 75% finished. Loom knitting appears to be time-consuming! HELP!!!!

  • i think it is cool that u r a man

  • Knitting a smaller version of this shawl for my daughter. Using the blue loom. Thanks:)

  • how cool to skip that peg - I'll have to try that

  • not suire if my last comment posted, but I am curious to see how to attach tassels to the end of this shawl or for the ends of a scarf.

    Thanks for great videos!

  • great video. Very helpful to a newbie! Just curious if you have a video of how to add tassels to the end of scarfs. I have a scarf I am making and can't seem to find a good tutorial on how to do the tassels.

    Thanks!

  • Hey Guys,

I just wanted to say that I really dig the shawl and will be attempting it today.. I am a newbie so, I was just wondering if you could direct me to the finishing part of this shawl and a video on the tassels?? Thanks a bunch and I love these tutorials!!!

    Smoochies from Houston!

  • Thank you! When I purchased the loom kit, it did not include instructions for making items that were not "tubular," and I only needed so many hats and tube scarves. I wanted to make shawls and have other ideas, but couldn't find the instructions. Fun, fun, fun!!! This is very helpful! Question, have you used the long looms or the loom "machine" to make items?

  • I love the yarn thru the pen. What a great tip.

  • awsome, awsome, awsome...I will continue to be patient. I have just a bit more to finish my shawl- I really appreciate your time. Thanks for getting back to me!

  • @lauracooks09 I really am sorry... You have no idea the amount of emails come in here... I try to balance my life with this and this is a monster... I love it but I get so back logged on stuff... people email me patterns 10 - 20 per day to video tape... it's a lot of stuff to process... but i will do this tonight! :)

  • hmmm, I don' t understand why you won't respond to the requests to finish off this project--

  • @lauracooks09 I'm so sorry... I'm just baack logged on video requests... I used the conventional method of casting off the round loom but I don't like it... it caused the one end to compress... here... tell ya what I will do... I have to go to work in the next few minutes... when I get home tonight...

  • @lauracooks09 The casting off conventionally causes the seam to be non elastic... so you have one end with super stretch and the other end is only have the half the stretch which is obvious.... I need to play with it a bit to see how I can keep my elasticity the same on both sides... I will film this tonight... sorry again. MKL

  • hi mikey how do you close this cape

  • HI, Mikey...I drop a stitch doing this particular shawl on my knifty knitter and I would like to know how to pick up this stitch. Can you show me how? Thanks in advance and have a nice day!

  • @Lawyerforlife1 WOW! UMM I I'm not sure how you can pick it up back... I would carefully remove it off your loom and pull out the string to where you think you dropped it... and then slide all the loops back onto the loom. This requires concentration and patience but is doable. Don't be yanking anything... just be patient and you should be okay.

  • Mikey...what do I have to do to get you to show us how to take this thing off the loom? (c: I've started one & taken it off, because I "love" the black one you made with the eyelash yarn--& I'm going to do a purple one, as soon as I finish the hat I'm crocheting...but I need to know how to get off the merry-go-round!! lol I know you are very busy...but please....when you get time (no hurry) give us a quicky tutorial on how to get off this thing! thanks Mikey...you're priceless! (c:

  • I love your video on making a shawl you have inspired me to try some of your new methods working these looms. Great video love the idea of making shawls. Thank you Mikey.

  • how much yarn will it take to make this?

  • @kristinel4christ Im sorry but don't know the answer... I used 3 Eye Lash Yarn Balls, and some black yarn from a huge jumbo ball. Hope this helps

    Happy Crochet

  • Hi Mikey,

Fun project here, I've just started it...I am hoping you'll do a quick video on how to cast this off (is that what you would call it?) so I'll be able to finish it off tomorrow. Also, I'm curious what brands of yarn you like to use on your looms, I find that I usually have to double my strands. Thanks for your time, it is appreciated!
