Life span of NiMH batteries vary greatly based on environment and duty cycle. There are a few Panasonic research packs that are almost 30 years old that still operate at 95% of their original capacity. I have a 30KW NiMH pack from a decommissioned 20-year-old electric vehicle that holds 97.8% of its original charge. I've been using it for 6 years for various deep cycle alternative (solar, wind, etc) energy projects. The trick is in the charging.

It depends on depth of discharge, at 100% DOD you get about 3X Pb-A, at 30% DOD you get between 15 to 20X the cycle life of Pb-A

Hi dears, what do you mean with twice the cycle life then Pb-A batteries ? I thought it should be 10-20x more...
