Looks like Tristan knew he was toast just after Cerdic's first cut under his arm. It's too bad the director didn't show Tristan putting up a better fight than he did. I guess they had to show off just how good a fighter Cerdic was. Two great acting job by Stellan and Mads though.

Tristram is a Sarmatian,as it states in the film description. The Romans conquered Sarmatia,and incorporated their Cavalry into their own army.Originally,Rome didnt have a great mounted Legion.When it did,it was made up of conscripts from many countries,mostly Slavic.

The origional Tristan and cerdic fight was way shorter than this.

All that happened was the first clash, they depart, then it shows the first bit of the second clash before cutting straight to the point when Tristan loses his weapon. He then picks it it up, swipes, gets stabbed in the arm and falls to the floor. When Cerdic picks him up, his mouth is bleeding (?) it then skips out the last stab and just shows the killing blow. I prefer this version as it shows Tristan fight till the very end.

@killerdragon30 not totally different.. they looked much alike and fought in pretty much the same way as the vikings who invaded Britain back in 793 and also they had the same beliefs. so when i call Cerdic for a viking warrior then its cuz he looks and fights like one doesnt mean he has to be one of the vikings in scandinavia. the term viking is very widespread these days u know and have more than one meaning unlike back then.

Tristan is the cooler character to me, but Cedric seems to have a great sense of honor in combat, while Tristan fights for keeps in 'anything goes'.

Anyone else notice how Tristan is a bit more 'dirty' in his fighting, while Cedric is more chivalrous? Tristan won't wait for Cedric to back off after getting his sword back, as well as the sneak attack on Cedric at the end, and 'snap' movements from on his knees to attacking as soon as Cedric lowers his guard to allow him a chance to get up.

Tristan was without a doubt one of the top warriors in the film.

Tristan lost against Cerdric for two reasons. 1. Cerdric was something few other warriors of that time were, an actual swordsman, that took Tristan's skill advantage away. 2. Going by the code of honor true swordsmen followed, Cerdric cheated by bringing another blade into the fight. Besides, Tristan died the way he wanted to, in combat. Arthur won due to a combination of rage and Cerdric's fatigue. Overall good battle

not only that but did you notice something? Tristan made greatest use of his skill by countering his oppenents aggression and killing them quickly, cerdric noticed that, and before he fought tristan he told that soldier near him to fight him, to me it looked like he was using that as a chance to study his skill. Even tristan seemed to realize this when they disengaged briefly he seemed a little surprised that he hadn't managed to end it with a few strikes.

@VillalobosC9 His sword didn't work against him very much, but his style definitely did. He tried to be slow and methodical against him which doesn't work that great against big/tough opponents because it just gives them time to work against you and outplay you. Cerdric had no chance against Arthur because Arthur was relentlessly aggressive and faster than him until he eventually broke through his defenses and wore him down any way he could. Once he did that the fight was over.

@samosayoe Fiction mostly gets it right. Tristan is killed cause the writer knew he was the one the audience would moarn the most. Hence eagle soaring above. 2. If strike isnt blocked by C,Tristans blade would hit the ground. Know its for safety reasons but does that sound like T? And look at how he moves exactly before injured,holds the sword akward and 3. Cerdic pulls out a dagger in 0.7 seconds from holding sword with both hands.
