Amazingly awesome, profoundly energizing & beautiful performance...Bravo, Meastro Bernstein, you majestically conduct this timeless & powerful Beethoven 3rd Sym; 4th mvt...Thank you very kindly to musicians, specially woodwinds & strings for your finesse, outstanding talent & stirring emotive nuances, this is indeed an unforgettable experience in classical music composed by the Giant Genius!!
The thing I absolutely love so much about this particular movement, is it really shows Beethoven's sense of humor and personality more than any other pieces in my opinion.
It's all about context. To our 21st-century ears, this symphony seems nice, though nothing really surprising, let alone shocking or revolutionary--but when you understand the tradition in which Beethoven was working, and compare this symphony to others being composed at the time, it's really, really jarring. As lovely as Haydn is, to go from him to the Eroica is... the only way to put it is, whew.
thanks very much for posting this. I always find the 1st movement "challenging," but the final movement of the "Eroica variations" is surely some of Beethoven's most sublime music.
thank you so much for this. i am studying ot at the moment for my music degree, and this has been so helpful; both the way you have put it all together, and the wonderful commentary at the side!! thanks for the help. very, very much appreciated. very kind of you to put in such effort.
I'm grateful for your kind words and am glad to know that some people not only peruse the Beethoven descriptions but actually strive to learn something from them.

From 8:44 to the end is SOO hip hop like. It has such a natural beat to it. There will never be another Beethoven!! :D
