I am studying Finnish too. It is a difficult language when it comes to grammar but its pronunciation of words is very effective and close to the written language. When you have learned the pronunciation rules you know how to pronounce all words and there are no exceptions. I have found Finnish fun and entertaining to learn despite some of the grammatical difficulties.

One should be aware that Finnish belongs to the Uralic language family, which is not related to other language families. Therefore its words and structure is very different and may be hard to understand for a beginner. Finnish is an agglutinative language and has 15 cases, this way most words differ very much from their original forms. This is challenging in the beginning but once you get the hang of it, it is not more difficult than other languages in my opinion. Give it a go. :)

finnish cant be easy..... can it? to my knowledge there's a vague kinship between finnish and hungarians (given how both are descended from the people that migrated from the Urals); hungarians is super-hard it's got no relatives, it's unique; so isn't finnish like that too?

@bbphnix I'm norwegian. And here in scandinavia norwegians, swedish people and danish people all understand eachother (for the most part anyways). But finnish is completely different. It's a very complicated language. They have these words that are put together as one to crate huge fucking words that describe stuff. It's hard to explain.

Better to learn german cause they have "loan" words that derive from english and even scandinavian. So you can recognize at least some of it.

@bbphnix Well, I don't quite understand what the order of people coming to Fennoscandia has to do with what language group their language belongs, but anyway, Sami (there are actually several Sami languages) belongs to the Finno-Ugric branch of the Uralic languages along with Finnish, Estonian and Hungarian. Sami isn't quite so closely related to Finnish as Estonian, but closer than Hungarian.

(The subtitler of the clip obviously didn't know what "san" is.)

I only know what I've seen in song lyrics and such, but quite a few Finnish words seem to end in either vowels or the letter n. In Japanese (which I'm in my sixth year of studying), words can only really end in vowels or n, so that might explain the similarities in pronounciation.
