@rumblefighter07 Superman is extremely humble and I'm assuming by stronger he meant more dangerous due to martian manhunter having more powers. Jon lost to doomsday and could not fight darkseid, enemies that have both been bested by superman
Let me clear this up: superman is the strongest and most powerful of the league and at full power the strongest being in the universe even stronger than darkseid, manhunter is close to supermans strength, wonder woman isn't even on par with the two
@grevelo99 acctualy superman said so himself martian manhunter is stronger than superman and is the strongest in the justice leauge and in tht universe so yea
It was established in the first episode that the alien invaders that conquered Mars stole the Martian's shape shifting abilities. So they had some powers while still on Mars
I believe they Martians were taken out by the self-replicating "weapon" that we saw early in JL. Probably just simply overwhelmed them just as they were doing to the League before Atom was able to get inside and destroy in from the inside out.
in JLA #86 Superman quotes "I can count on one hand the number of beings in the known universe I would be afraid to face in open combat. J'onn J'onzz is at the top of that list. He is the most powerful being on the face of the earth."
Or he could be a "Meta" of sorts. I mean there's humans that have the same or crazier powers because of some such thing why is it so outrageous that he would be the same except Martian?....
How the hell is he strong being born on a planet with less gravity then earth??? According to DC logic... the orginal superman didnt gain his power from the sun but from the fact that Kryptons gravity was much greater.than earths... hence (faster than a bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap a tall building in a single bound.
An Alien invasion wiped out a whole race of HIM? He has super strength, shape-shifting, and all these other powers... What did they have? Sorry if this is ignorant but I really want to know how the Martians lost...
@WillyTung Maybe he & his folks arent that incredibly strong when they're on Mars. Just like how Kryptonians aren't so strong in their home planet b/c its got red sunlight. I mean its NOT easy to invade and destroy a race whose ppl have superman-like strength and powers, ie. ppl who can move planets like size of earth. The martians must really not be that strong on their home planets.
@dannyp206 I don't believe that is the case with regard to Martians. Despite their amazing physical prowess, including superhuman strength, shape-shifting, etc., they were overpowered by superior technology and numbers. The invaders copied their ability to shape-shift, and their minds were very alien and difficult to read. Comparatively, the Marian people were simpler and less advanced, as like Earthlings they seem never to have colonized beyond their home planet.
@dannyp206 Either that, or perhaps J'onn was one of those few that could be considered truly talented among his people. It may very well be that the psionic strength of the average Martian wasn't anywhere near the level that J'onn has.
@dannyp206 no its not that, its just that the alien race has the exact same super powers as them!
there is also the implication in the comics that these powers are . . . gained through medidation, or scientific experiment . . . that he gained these powers in his hundreds of years of solitude on mars!
@WillyTung Maybe the original martians didnt have as many powers as him and like only had the shapeshifting. Because if I'm not wrong, and from my observations when I watched the cartoon, the form he's usually in is like the martian's "Military uniform" and the skinny version is like a civilian wear.
@WillyTung Their vulnerable to fire so could have been fire bombed also some of their abilities may have developed after they lost they might not have always had those abilities. In one story they fought white martians a race that had the same abilities so if both white martians and green martians can change their color, form, etc. what were they fighting about?
@WillyTung Watch the first Justice league episode, not unlimited, just justice league, that's the same aliens who invaded mars and it gives you a lot of backstory to the J'onn.
@WillyTung I would like to believe that - somehow - the Martian Manhunter is as strong as he is, because the strength of all the martian people (who were telepathic) resides now only in him, rather than being distributed across the whole population. I don't think there is any canon support for that, but it is a good answer for why the whole race could be beaten, but just one can not. Kind of like the Inverse Ninja Law really.
@WillyTung Mars is much smaller than Earth so all this strength that you see in the justice league show really wasn't present there. Next, he says his people are peaceful and as such they were ill prepared for the invasion, chances are they never even had much of a military. Thirdly, their enemy had telepathic abilities too so the martians probably couldn't use their telepathy to combat them. This leaves the martians with only two super powers out of five: Flight and Density change.
@WillyTung If I'm not wrong, according to the original DC Comics, Martians weakness was fire. When another race came and attacked them with fire, they were wiped out except for Jonn Jonz who managed to escape.
@WillyTung the martians have a weakness to fire of all things, like kryptonite to supes. also he is from the race of green martians , the white martians are a bit stronger and oppressed the green martian and eventually wiped them out
@WillyTung They had the ability to mimic his race's powers. His race probably held their own pretty well at first, then lost their advantage. See the first JL episode for the story.
In the first episode of justice league - secret origins, it is revealed that the martians were an advanced, powerful, but peaceful race. They were invaded by another alien species and because of their peaceful nature, didn't fight back till the very end, causing their deaths.
@WillyTung they most likely used incendiary weapons fired from orbit, since the manhunter is weak against fire they could have done that or just split the planet to open up it's molten core
The whole race hasthe potential for vast power but they were curtailed by the Guardians of the Universe due to their powerful potential, splitting them into Green and White Martians(google it to find out specifics) but generally speaking the Greens are more philosophical. They dont use their powers combatively so they were caught off guard by an alien force (this threat has different explanations depending on origin story).
@WillyTung The Martians actually won, accept there was only one last man standing, John Jonez. But the reason why the Martians didn't completely dominate the war (which they could have) is because on there planet, they didn't even really know what war is. The whole planet was peaceful so by the time they did learn to fight back, it was too late, the aliens had already took their martian powers.
@WillyTung They were peaceful. Ignorant to such evil acts of violence. J'onn was a 'police' so to speak, but usually that was only to hunt down the troublemakers and troubled mines and send them elsewhere. And well, the invasion (forget what they are called) were parasites, feeding off of the Martian's powers and abilities. So, they were at a disadvantage.
okay isnt there a movie about him and his family and how the y got killed or something liek it showed his family in the video is that a movie or cartoon episode someone please tell me!!
@IM3RkAg3Ilz The clips you see with his family is from the Justice League cartoon series (where most of the other clips are from as well) :-)
J'onn is awesome and by far my favourite hero of them all... He is extremely powerful and despite what some other comments in here say, he has a huge heart and lots of emotions as well. I guess you have to be a true Martian Manhunter fan to understand his personality and the different aspects of it...
Could u blame 'em? The guy was around for more than a 1000 earth years. And then he spent that 1000 years on mars without his family or any of his martian folks cuz his race was wiped out by the alien invaders according to the cartoon.
Don't mean to burst anyone's bubble, but there's not much to understand about him, he's emotionally dead, and has as much personality as a rock. But on the other hand, he's very caring and is the heart and soul of the League. Plus he's hella powerful.
If they make another Superman movie (hopefully this time with a more muscular guy who's in his prime, rather than Brandon Routh) they should also introduce the Martian Manhunter in that movie, so that people who don't know him could atleast get to learn about him while they're enjoying watching Superman kick ass
@dannyp206 eh I thought the guy looked enough like Christopher Reeves in the face for me to like him............but the whole time I felt like I was watching a colonge ad, not the world's greatest super hero whoop ass.
@TheMidnightx12 None taken. u know the funny thing is, (and u probably didn't realise this) that the MM is over 1000 earth years old. But he shows not one sign of aging because of his Martian physiology. That's why he looks like he's in his his prime years. The woman is many many years younger to him. lol.
@TheMidnightx12 In Destroyer, if u can remember, when wonderwoman was fighting the parademons, there was an old man (Jonn) who told his Asian wife to go home to safety while he's gonna handle those guys. Wonderwoman (not knowing that he was Jonn) told him to get out of harms way, but he said that he had come to help. The he turned into the dragon and then to his true form infront of Wonderwoman. That's the part where they briefly showed his gf or wife.
@ViperXMambo yes he is. It's too bad that his weakness to fire is soooo lame. It's like any villain he can come across can light a match in front of his face and that's it he's done. The writers should never have given him a weakness of fire, rather maybe some unknow gas or chemical as his weakness.
@dannyp206 Yeah it always bugged me how DC characters tend to have a weakness to something physical; Superman to kryptonite, and Green Lantern to the color yellow in the past. I do like how Marvel characters weaknesses were more psychological; Hulk had an anger problem, Gladiator had a confidence issue, Sentry was insane, and Silver Surfer was really naive for some one that powerful.
@SuperMarkerComicBro well in the justice league cartoon, his race was invaded by some other alien race who has a leader called the Imperium. Jonn jonnz and a few handful of martians tried to eliminate the invaders in a final attempt using some type of nerve gas. but when all was said and done, not only the aliens died but so did all his comrades. thus he, as the sole martian, put the remaining invaders in suspended animation and kept watch over them.
Cool video! I used to watch the Super Friends as a kid but MM was never in it. I didn't learn about him until I started reading Justice League and then I thouhgt he was great. Very noble, almost zen like. I loved him in the league during the Keith Giffen years. Especially his love of Oreo cookies.I'm glad he showed up on Smallville.
DC just dont know really what to do with him 99% of the time the guy is almost as strong as superman but his balance of strentgh, telepathy, intangability, shaprshifting, martian vision and a genius intellect (honed from being around for hundreds of years) makes him more powerful imo then the man of steel.
The JLA TPB Trial by Fire shows just what MM could do if he ever really wanted to hurt anyone, of course DC ruined it with the "it wasnt really you" crap but it was a great example of his power
@comicsenjoyer Not true. His power is severely down-played in the JL and JLU series, and rarely demonstrated, so that is a commonly-held belief. In truth, J'onn could easily take out Supes in a one-on-one fight. Besides fight and super-strength which they share, although J'onn is the stronger, J'onn can:
Shape shift
Change his density
is Telepathic
Superman really has the upper command b/c of his history with earth/people. J'onn is much more detached/objective, and not the best PR.
@CryowenFrostmage Actually within one of their (rather recent) meetings, they set the official boundary that he is not stronger than Superman. He may have used to be in the past because they had not limited him since his creation, but it's set now that he isn't---- and cannot unless by some "temporary" means bestowed on him in some unnatural way. This is the only limit they gave him though, they didn't limit his other abilities or how many he has.
@starwarsfire23 yeah i know. i just listed the powers that he had according to the Justice League cartoon and The Batman. Yes, he does have more powers. But then its not just the powers that make him but his committment to helping humankind despite being treated as an alien and a stranger. Gotta love that guy. I mean they should have focused more on him than they did on the cartoon.
@comicsenjoyer ok maybe in the comics. but judging from what I've seen in the Justice League animated series, the leadership scale goes like this:
1. Superman
2. Batman
3. Martian Manhunter
4. Wonder woman (although her membership ID number is #3 as seen on one episode).
Besides she doesn't act like being in charge in most episodes. Even batman has been shown to take charge. But mostly it's superman and MM who seems like the leaders in most times.
This was a really kool video, I must say. Their is not enough publicity on this guy. He's deffinatly the best superhero on both DC universe, and Marvel universe.
lol he seems so tall compared to those people. it looks kind of funny.

The Justice League members remind me of some of the Greek Gods.
Athena and Wonder Woman: Intelligent heroines.
Superman and Zeus: A powerful, kind man to those who worship him, but ruthless and versatile to the ones who oppose him.
Batman/Hades: need I say more?
The FLash/Hermes: Super speed, anyone? Comical?
Poseidon and Aquaman: Kings of the Seas, bitches.

The JLA TPB Trial by Fire shows just what MM could do if he ever really wanted to hurt anyone, of course DC ruined it with the "it wasnt really you" crap but it was a great example of his power

he is more strong than wonder woman but slightly less strong than superman
comicsenjoyer 1 year ago

@CryowenFrostmage Martian Manhunter has way more powers than what you explained but at least u stood up for him.
starwarsfire23 1 year ago
@starwarsfire23 yeah i know. i just listed the powers that he had according to the Justice League cartoon and The Batman. Yes, he does have more powers. But then its not just the powers that make him but his committment to helping humankind despite being treated as an alien and a stranger. Gotta love that guy. I mean they should have focused more on him than they did on the cartoon.

wonder woman is third in command
comicsenjoyer 1 year ago
