I abandoned my garden last year because of the Fukushima radiation falling on it. And yet it continued to produce in part. So this year I'm just going with the semi-wild method.
Up in the mountains, I experimented with planting garlic, potatoes, onion, herbs -- in places most likely to do well without watering. Just to see what happens.
I love this video too. Her charm and forwardness are delightful. Her book, "Gardening Without Work", is excellent too. You can find it on Amazon or the Norton Creek Press website very easily.

I simply adore her! What a great natural garde teacher she was and so earth friendly before it was a "cool thing to do." I've seen this video before, but it's my great pleasure to review it again. I'd love to have spent time with her, though not @ breakfast. :)
Thanks so much for posting it. One of my absolute favorites, right up there will Bill Mollison, Geoff Lawton, Seph Holtz, and Masonobu Fukuoka.
I learned about Ruth's method when I was young. I've been gardening this way in my homes as I travel the world for years....thanks for sharing the videos. Wonderful information
Love this lady. She reminds me of my grandmother who have would be 100 years old on June 11th. She was 92 when she passed. A wonderful generation. A blessing to still have Ruth with us and share her wisdom in these videos. Thankyou for these.
Wow! She never watered her garden in many years, but in Southern California we probably would still have to water a few times even under 7 inches of hay...
My new growing hero.... i wish people realized it is so EASY to grow with a little hay and seed...... Thank you i will be sharing this! I have great success with using hay to keep the soil healthy and full of humus.... it sounds like you had great parents that allowed you to develop your own way....creativity and observation in action. Thanks so much.
Amazing woman, I hope to still be gardening at 90 myself, lol.

This is an example of working with nature and it's ways instead of controlling it to bend it to our will. This is the better way.
