He's right. I tend to follow the ATK recipes fairly closely because they take the time to explain the problems they ran into as well as their solutions. I am usually successful when I do. I love their no-ad approach. (I do find this interviewer to be a strange choice. She's so grating and intrusive, even ungracious.)
I am an engineer and agree with Chris 100%, I like his approach to cooking and experimenting like in a DoE. The why's are the secret behind being a better cook.

yeah, it astounds me how some people get the jobs they do. this chick probably makes a pretty good amount of money and she sounds like Helen Keller.

Interesting. I agree, interviewer was a bit grating. You could almost see that Chris really wanted to be somewhere else.
