For me, this is the 1968 anthem for WHERE I saw my life at age 17. Whenever I hear it; all these years later, I remember riding around the L.A. area...especially in the evenings or at night. Imperial Hwy; Long Beach Blvd; Whittier Blvd; San Pedro, Torrance, Compton, Bellflower, Downey, Alhambra, LAX area, South Bay, Seal Beach,
Norwalk, Cerritos, Paramount, Lakewood, Brea,
Huntington Park, South Gate and Lynwood. The fog in the air and the lights everywhere. What
Summer 1968 - Vietnam was never-ending. Bobby and Martin.... but then this came pouring out of the jukeboxes, like honey... Music is power. Music can heal. Music is bigger than everything. all the best, my fellow survivors..
good point, whoever told brothers that the Afro was unstylish committed a serious crime against human hair! But then again, that's what the good old days were about. Brothers and sisters unashamed of looking good and singing good... hmmmnnn blew my mind!
for years this entire song was a scratched up 45 that i played to death as a young teen, this, and, didnt i (blow your mind this time) i didnt even know they were black.
nice to finally have faces to go with that old worn out, orange labeled 45.
Thom Bell was their producer, not Gamble and Huff. This is Philly Groove record company. It predated Philadelphia International by 7 or 8 years. Again, Delfonics were a product of Thom Bell. Bell later brought his lush sound to the Stylistics.
I had the pleasure to be fortunate enough to have met, and to have hangout with William(Poochie) Wilbur, Randy and later Major, Circa 1970-77. Always a class act and very wonderful human beings off the stage as well. Whether Mr. D'S in San Francisco 1970, in New York-1971, The Berkeley Community Theater or the Total Experience in Los Angeles, always consistent and immpeccable in their presentation. Thanks for the memories.
No group can EVER touch these guys. Their songwriters and composers are uncomparable. Their Greatest Hits album RULES with no one even coming close. If you go to a party and someone is playing the Delfonics, you know right then and there you're dealing with a 'real' person who 'knows' their stuff.
The Delfonics are my shyt!! Thom Bell is the man..and those right there are some tough drums...U'll see these type of ballads will come back around..thanks, we want more..
this is classic..Delfonics are legendary...love this group..this song is a classic...thanks Delfonics...you put out music you can play and hold your head up proudly...
