I agree with the comment made by 144flyer01. It was NOT a miracle. To call it one is to belittle the accomplishment of the captain and crew. There is only one reason the plane didn't break apart upon hitting the water: because Capt Sully is a highly trained and skilled pilot who did a masterful job of avoiding the physics that otherwise would have tore up the plane. The captain himself might call it a "miracle," to the media, but rest assured it's only because he's clearly a very modest man.

Some people on this thread post that the emergency landing of flight 1549 was a "miracle". I can understand why. The media has been calling it the "miracle on the hudson". However, the only miracle would be if the captain and crew had done nothing to save that plane and somehow it saved itself and everyone on board. This was no act of nature. This plane and those people survived because the crew used every bit of training they ever recieved. Try reading the captains book, "Highest Duty"

Yes, he did his job, and that's the point. The plane's chances of landing successfully were very small, and of everyone surviving the crash were even smaller. The fact that Captain Sullenberger and his crew ditched the plane successfully and with no casualties is nothing short of a miracle. He, and all of the crew, are heroes because 150 lives were in their hands, and their own, and even though the situation looked grim, they were able to save everyone's lives.
