  • Beautifull, but too dangerous.

  • Aww, it's not so bad. I only saw one accident the several times I was there ... it was a M/C that didn't negotiate a curve. Thanks for your posting.

  • Bravo! Thanks for the tour.

  • Glad we could be of service. Thanks for your post. Have a great week.

  • no thx will ride the train

  • Awwww, come on, where is you sense of adventure ... or peril ... or ... ? Thanks for your post. Have a great day.

  • @Aldimarvp i'll be in italy three weeks in april. there's no possible way I can rent and drive a car there. I'm america and use to driving on the left side.

  • @tr763 "I'm america and use to driving on the left side" Must be from Miami!

  • I loved your documentary! I'm italian and i've been in amalfi too and i found the driving too hard! Ahahah nothing like naples though !

  • Thank you for your kind words about the documentary. Some day I would love to stay in Naples, I hear it is beautiful. Then I will continue the discussion about driving ... Amalfi and Naples. Hai un buon gionata!

  • @amdnovello grazie!!!

  • Do you have to drive the winding road to get to the town of Amalfi and Sorrento? Wonder what roads are like that in USA? I'd love to see those places..I 'd take the bus...Thanks for the Video. I live in Virginia Beach , Virginia..

  • From Amalfi to Sorrento there are two routes ... along the coast or over the mountains. Each are beautiful in their own way. I am sure there are some mountain roads in VA that approach these in Italy. From what I saw of the Buses, I think I might prefer being in my own car. Though the buses are safe, my car is closer to the road. Thank you for posting. Have a great year!

  • @doodiddy03

    Hello.

Highway 1, Big Sur California. 90 miles of twists and turns hugging the mountain side as it plunges to the Pacific Ocean. Ragged Point to Carmel. or a longer drive San Simeon to Monterey.

  • @moondoggie71 You really cant compare italy and california, Italy is better in every way. Better scenery, better culture/history, better food, better wine, better people, more beautiful and classy, california is a overrated shit hole, that only looks good on the movies. LA is horrible, you cant even see the fucking mountains with the smog

  • wow beautiful scenery, road and music :)

  • Thanks for posting a comment. I love this part of Italy ... and the scenery and the road. I simply added the music. Have a grand week.

  • anyone knows what is the music that is being played as the background score on this video

  • Hi, I have been asked this several times ... and I just don't remember the score. This video was done about five years ago and I have had a hard drive crash since then and lost the data. My apologies.

  • Hello. I loved your video-I laughed so hard at your Italian driving lessons. My sister and I are going to the Amalfi Coast in September. We are staying in Sorrento and spending three days driving the coast and stopping in some of the towns. Thanks for showing what the drive is like; some of the stories I've heard have made me a little nervous. If you have any tips about the drive or where to rent a car I'd love to hear them. Grazie!

  • Hi, thanks for enjoying the video. Please appreciate the fact that while Italians drive hard and fast, they are courteous. They share the road, unlike American drivers who feel they own the road. Show your courage in driving well, and it will be respected. Also, keep an eye out for buses ... It wouldn't be the first time that a bus could not make it around a corner and all traffic stopped. For more videos, please visit my other web site: VideosOfItaly(dot)com. PS. rent a small car!

  • Comment removed

  • hahahaha i laughed soooo much with the ''motorini''.hahahahhaaaaa. loved the video.

  • Thanks for your comment ... we enjoy driving the Amalfi Coast. When I drove it with my sister she thought she might leave an impression of her hand in the door handle because she was holding on so tightly.

  • Hy im from Amalfi^^ and i can say you did a wonderfull job, the only wrong thing is that i can tell you that where you wrote Sorrento Town, its still Amalfi, it also the begining, but i can see that in the first step and the last step you was going and arrived in Sorrento, not Sorrento center but Meta di Sorrento, I hope you enjoied the trip and also the coffe with the Sanbuca, its not a speciality of the place, but i love Sambuca :P.Hope to have you soon in uss place ;)

  • Thank you for your comment. I appreciate it when I am shown the correctness of Italy. As a videographer we are often rushed to get the video and take what we see as "correct". Mi dispiace per il mio sbagliato. Sambuca con caffe' is "my" specialty wherever I go in Italy. And of course it is Molinare Sambuca. Enjoy life and may I meet you in Amalfi. I love that town!

  • Just got back from 2 weeks in Italy and spent 10 days in Praiano. We rented a villa at La Praia which had a parking space so we got a Fiat 500 in Sorrento . Fun driving! Made me miss the GT3!

  • Oh, I am so envious! We would love to get back to Italy for a couple of weeks. Thanks for posting.

  • wow great scenery thanks for this video, it looks brilliant

  • Thanks for your post. Just wish I could get back there.

  • just 2 little (but substancial) corrections... there's no ocean but mediterranean sea;), caffe is "corretto" and not "perfetto", due to the "correction" that you made with liqueur;) but in my opinion "perfetto" would works too;) i can say it's impressive for us too, it gives very good feelings. I prefer to do it with vespa, cause by car can be a little nerving, but always breathtaking. Just 2 days ago a man with a scooter felt down and stopped himself just a few centim. before going out of way..

  • Yes you are correct with my Italian. This was my first time using the language and I was rather clumsy. However, regarding the sea we are both correct. The Tyrhenian sea (Mar Tirreno) is north of the bay of Naples whereas the Mediterrranean sea is south of the bay. The Amalfi coast could be considered to be on both seas depending upon which side of the coast you were on. Again though, some maps place the Mar Tirreno on both sides of the coast. I need to go back to Italy ...

  • @Aldimarvp language is not so easy, nevermind... (my english is not so good too). the most important thjing is that you have really enjoyed the place and you've also drunk the caffè corretto like an old italian tradition. yes here is "mar Tirreno" everywhere (mediterraneo is located south from sicilia and sardegna).

As you wrote "ocean" in the description, i just wanted to remark that is a "sea";) that was not so important... thanks for the video hope you will come back one day ciao

  • Take a back seat Big Sur,CA...

  • love no.5!!

  • Thanks! have a great week.

  • Che il mondo lo sappia...AMALFI COAST, DISTRICT OF -- S.A.L.E.R.N.O--,

    Provincia di SALERNO.

  • "Sambuca con caffè!"

  • Certamente!

  • Well done! I like the tune, what's it called? Will be in Italy in September 2010 and I'm already excited to be there the 5th time. All the best! Ciao,

  • Thank you for your kind comment. The music if from one of my royalty-free CDs which I buy from various sources. Sorry I don't remember the name. Have a great time in September.

  • YOU NEED TO USE THE HORN BEFORE A CORNER APPEARS!

  • Well, if that were the case my hand would be on the horn more than the brake or the gas. As you saw, there are mirrors (some broken) at the bad corners to let you know if someone is coming. It is especially bad when the tour buses come around the corner. Thanks for your posting.

  • hahahaha, thats narrow?

Those Roads are Highways compared to some roads i drove in Asia

  • Oh my ... and I thought these were narrow. Thanks for your post.

  • italy is so beautiful it makes me want to cry right now

  • It is a grand place to visit. We have been back there many times and many places. Thanks for the post.

  • Oceans or towns?! Oh my, what a difficult choice! Thank you for the information..I shall make it a point to sit on a different side going from and returning to our ship! :-) We'll be travelling to Possitano....I think my knuckles will be white, also! Chao, Aldimarvp!

  • The ride to Positano is a classic ... there doesn't seem as if the road is wide enough for the bus. There are some great views from the top. Have fun.

  • Thank you so much for sharing this video...my husband and I will travel this on our bus tour from our ship to Pompei...I hope my tummy can take it: my only worry~!

  • Hi, Well, from your vantage point you can see everything. Depending upon what you want to see ... ocean or towns ... pick the appropriate side of the bus. Be prepared for tight squeezes ... what you saw in my video is very real. But then, it is your drive's problem not yours. Have fun, have a little vino and enjoy Italia.

  • i've been there in 2003. it's a road and a place i will never ever forget. it's absolutely amazing in every meaning of the word. very nice video and excellent music :)

  • Thanks for your comment. Were you the driver or passenger? When I drove my Sister around the coast a few years back she had "white knuckles" from holding on to the car's hand supports.

  • @Aldimarvp back then i was a passenger. my mom was driving. but i intend to go soon as a driver. it's a must-do for any driving and nature enthusiast. i remember she enjoyed so much driving there that she fried the clutch from changing the gears :))

  • Fried the clutch! Wow that was a lot of driving. I hope you make it back there some day on your own. Best of luck.

  • @Aldimarvp thank you. hopefully next year i'll fry the clutch :))

  • Merci

  • Nice video, tks for sharing!! I am going to Italy next month and Amalfi Coast is among the places certainly not to miss!!

  • Well, you should block out an entire day for the drive. It goes from Sorrento to Vietri. But if you only have 1/2 a day, then the trip might be from Sorrento to Possitano. And if you are brave at heart, then take the windy road to the top of Possitano. Watch out for the Busses. Enjoy. We have been back three times and can't get enough.

  • A nice video! Thank you much!

  • Thank you for taking the time to comment. Much appreciated.

  • Park e pe Valea Oltului... :-)

  • Ive been there before. Its beautiful.

  • Watch and listen to an original song by Ken Lattari- The Path of the Gods

  • other than that, you make the greatest videos. thank you :)

  • Thank you for your kind words about the videos. Regarding clouds or fog ... hmmm. Since we were high in the mountains at that time (not really on the Amalfi coast) I could only assume they were clouds. But then, my memory is a bit foggy.

  • those are not clouds over the roads. that's the fog bro.. i have the same thing in san francisco every day

  • In this video you are in one of te site most beautiful of the world.

    Ciao, Francesco

  • Tu hai ragione. Alfredo

  • Way too overcrowded to be enjoyable, reminds me too much of where i live in London.

  • Hi. In the middle of the week the traffic is not too bad. Sorrento is always a bit crowded in the central piazza, but hey, it's a major tourist destination. Thanks for posting.

  • Nice video !! :-)

I'm from Naples and I always use to ride with my motorbile in costiera.( even I invade the other line....upsss Sorry )

Correction : On lesson nr 8

Is not "caffe' perfetto" ...is CAFFE CORRETTO - You were close -

Contact me (all of you) to enjoy Costiera Amalfitana once again

    Ciao Gianfranco

  • Ciao Gianfranco ... yes you are correct. When this video was made we were just learning Italian. Caffe' Corretto e' perfetto per me. Also I used the wrong word for "double". I should have said "doppio". Oh well, the Italians haven't shot me yet when I made a mistake. We have found them to be very loving and forgiving ... so long as people try. We have been to the Amalfi Coast twice now, and hope to make it a few more times. Grazie mille per la sua risposta.

    Ciao Alfredo

  • seriouly... is there such a beautiful place like this exists? It's too beautiful. But I think there are too many cars.

  • Aw heck, all the cars just make the driving more challenging ...

  • simply the most beautiful place in the world

  • Yes, the Amalfi Coast does have a lot of charm. We have been back several times and do not get tired of being there. Thank you for your post.

  • may I know what song is it playing on your video?

  • Hi, This video was done so long ago that I don't remember the name of the song. Most all my music comes from SmartSounds, a royalty free music company.

  • The title is : 'O PAESE D''O SOLE (this version is the instrumental )

Is one of the olderst napolitan song

  • 3:15 la luna hotel! one of the nicest places i've ever stayed at

  • Thanks for the tip. But where is he Hotel and can you tell us more about it?

  • I just love italian movies. Especially when driving you always hear wonderful music! Beautiful...//*u*\\

  • Thank you for your very kind words. Have a grand week.

  • you have captured Amalfi beautifully Aldimarvp,we enjoyed Pompeii and Ravello trips too,its a very expensive place now though, but the Italian way of life is something I envy.

  • What's not to like about great food and a nap in the afternoon. Yeh, I could get used to it also. Thank you for your kind response.

  • Molto carino e ironico!...Io abito in costiera...

  • Ebbene, si deve conoscere la strada molto bene. Grazie per la sua posta.

  • Hi Aldimarvp,I have been watching this as I am going there next week, its a lovely video, like your Gaeta one where I lived many years ago, wish I could win the lottery and just stay in Italy,it stays in your heart, anyone need a housekeeper that cant cook ha ha

  • Thanks for the post. I hope you get a chance to drive the coast. Some people think that I sped up the camera ... but I did not. That's just how you drive when you are there. Have fun, and a glass of wine for us. Or better yet, "un caffè corretto" (coffee with liquor). Ciao.

  • I was there last month also! One of the most stunning places i've ever seen! I also did the whole drive from one end to the other along those mountains. I love those little mirrors placed at the curves, they help, sure,a little bit, but come on!... I don't normally get car sick, but by the time i was done the whole 40 min (or more, can't remember) drive, i was sick to my stomach!.. But I must say, totally worth it!

  • Sure ... why do you think I am having a caffe' with a double Sambuca. It settles the stomach and it tastes good ... and it helps me drive Italian style. Thanks for the post.

  • Great video!

I was there before 1month ago...but i will come back again

Such a romatic place! Incredible Amalfi!

    Emma,swe

  • Thank you for your kind words.

  • good work

  • Thank you. Have a great week.

  • I just uploaded a slideshow (didn't have a video camera with me) of my Amalfi drive, if you want to see it. Just check my profile/video list.

  • Ahh, now you are bringing back memories. Very nice slide show ... and I love Vivaldi. Have a great life.

  • I drove this exact route in a six speed alfa romeo 159 earlier this year. Nothing more an 18 year old could ask for. Best day of my life period. Italy is utterly gorgeous.

  • You are so fortunate. When I was your age we just didn't think of international travel. May you have the same love and energy at 36!

  • I have one more thing to say. I'm an American and I've travelled to our major cities and I have to say for people who are saying negative things about Italy or any other country. Take a look at your own backyard. I can go anywhere in the US and find places just as disgusting full of trash, drugs, filth, and prostitution. It's everywhere in the world. Why focus on the negative?

  • Hi. Thanks for both of you comments. It is always a pleasure to hear from people who enjoy Italy as I do. Enjoy Life!

  • I lived in Naples for 3 years and travelled all around Italy and Europe. Italy however captured my heart and soul. There's something about it that just draws you back. Thanks for this wonderful video!!

  • rende bene l'idea... :)

  • What a wonderful video! I was there on a holiday and ran away from the organised tour and took a local bus from Sorrento to Positano along that very coastline and then on down to Amalfi. It will remain one of the best memories of my lifetime. Thanks for refreshing it for me - Valerie -Dublin Ireland.

  • Yes, and I bet you loved the bus ride up the switch back road to the top of Positano! We drove up there by car and could not believe how the buses made it up there. Glad you enjoyed the video.

  • i break a tear every time watch this movie...

  • Sheesh, I must be missing out on something. I was not set upon by thieves nor did I get any extra on the side ... and I agree, the country is indeed nice.

  • Hi, I just came back from the Costa Amalfitiera: I miss the curves but not the SITA busses. What a wonderful place on earth! And a great video.

  • Yes the coast is wonderful. Thank you for your comment.

  • i used to live there. that was my home. i miss it so much. watching this video made me cry, especially at the end where it says "the motorini make their own lanes", because it's so true. i remember we use to have them coming on BOTH sides of our car, at the same time.

  • Hi. I am not sure what to say: that I am sorry I made you cry, or thank you that you enjoyed the video. We love this part of Italy and have made friends there.

  • no! don't be sorry. it's a great video! it just brought back memories.

  • lesson 1: try to build roads on a mountain-side like that.. did u want a freeway?!?

lesson 2: motorbike or "motorino" is the best way to travel on that way. No queue risk..

lesson 3: The suicide bus. What a bus should do in a cross with a car? jump into the sea?

last lesson: Not in whole Italy driving is like this. Remember: Amalfi is in southern Italy, and there things are very, VERY and VERY different from where I live.

    Minni from Milan, Italy

  • Tell'em minni, theese roads were built in THE TWENTIES! when the cars were less and smaller, the curving beams are nearly perfect. Last lesson:things in Milan are ABSOLUTELY, A B S O L U T E L Y, NOT VERY DIFFERENT from Southern Italy.

  • is this Sicily?

  • I suppose that this could look like Sicily, but it is along the Amalfi coast south of Napels between Sorrento and Salerno.

  • coast is quite clean, is the inside area near Naples totally full of trash, possible will be dangerous on summer.

    visit northern italy, better cleaned.

  • HI! I WAS HERE IN THIS SUMMER AND EVERYDAY WAS RIDING ON THESE ROADS:) FIRST OF ALL:IT'S THE MOST BEAUTIFULL ROAD,FUUNY TO DRIVE,BECASUSE EVERYTIME WHEN BUS COMES FROM FRONT,YOU HAVE TO STOP :) AND DANGEROUS,BECAUSE YOU NEVER SEE,IF ANYONE COMES FROM FRONT! BUT THIS BEAUTY IS WORTH OF THAT :) I WANNA BACK IN AMALFI,I HAVE THERE MY FAVOURITE SUN,SEA,STARS AND BENCH :) THANK YOU FOR SUCH A BEAUTIFULL VIDEO:IT REMINDED ME ALL THE SWEET MEMORIES WHICH i GOT THERE :) WILL BE BACK,PROMISE!!!

  • I know, it was such a beautiful place:)

  • Was ther in 06:) Really scary bus ride. Beautiful place.... The bus ride really made me sick (even now then I'm just watching).....

    Wanna go back to Amalfi

  • Yeh, the busses scared me too ... and I was in my car!

  • Thank you for all these memories... If you look at my video I'm pretty sure that my road segment is what you use in your lesson 2. We are heading in the other direction

  • Now you are the one bringing back memories. Yes, I love that road ... and apparently you do as well. A fine video, thanks.

  • I was visiting the Amalfi Coast just three days ago, with Sorrento as the starting point, and Ravello at the end, a truly amazing journey, breathtaking "hillclimbing" by bus, and an amazing busdriver on those roads! I'm back in Norway now, but I swear, some day I will return to Costeria Amalfitana :D

  • Didn't you just love the winding road up to Ravello? Boy, I did it in a car ... I can't imagine what it would be like in a bus!

  • We held our breaths in the sharpest turns, hehe..It was the wildest thing I have ever experienced on a bus, that's for sure, LOL! But I wouldnt be without the feeling of driving thru' thin air! We ate lunch in a restaurant in Scala, and Mein Gott, what a view! If u're not afraid of heights, I recommend EVERYONE to experience the Amalfi Coast! (Maybe not on a bus, coz that was kinda scary from time to time, hehe)

  • Beautiful!!!

  • Thank you.

  • Hi! i was thinking of going to Italy for about a month next year, i was hoping you could tell me when the best time is to go, when there aren't as much tourists. And also how much spending money id need, not including accomodation cause ill be stayin with a friend. Thanks, hope this doesnt bother you too much.

  • Hi, We like to go to southern and central Italy in late March to early April. The air fares are are reasonable (almost 1/2 price from Summer fares) and the weather is Spring like. Spending money depends upon your life style. We try to eat in Trattorias (family owned/run restaurants). I would suggest a budget of 30-50 euros a day for food, booze and stuff, and depends upon how often your eat out. Does this help?

  • Yes! Perfect thanks alot dude! thats all i needed to know.

  • brilliant!!! there is a balance between the beauty of scenery and the stress of driving along the coast :-)) and I remember very well my experience - probably I'll never forget it

  • Thank you for your kind response. That is exactly what I was hoping to achieve with this video. Happy driving in Italy.

  • you should know that amalfi positano maiori minori etc are all parts of salerno not naples! only sorrento is in naples! :D

  • Such a beautiful coastline. Back in july 2005 I took the public bus from Sorrento to Almafi town

  • Really enjoyed the video - captures the experience beautifully!

  • Thanks for the comment. I just returned from Italy and experienced the Coast of Maratea (Calabria) ... not quite as nice, but just as winding.

  • VERY beautiful. Thanks for posting.

  • Excellent!

  • i was in Minori in may this year, driving is the hell but the coast is the best i´ever seen!

  • Minori is a great little town. You can by Molinare sambuca for 7 euros in the supermarket. It sells for 22 dollars in the states.

  • sumsi1254 -- i've just sold my house and acquired a nice camper van. Italy is my chosen destination for a few months. Seen much else there?

  • @talibanboyoreturns

wow, take me with you ; )

italy is beautiful, i try to travell there every year, the amalfi coast is breathtaking, but the toscane, venice, rome , is also very very nice!

  • I don't know if they drive better than us, but I think they drive with a death wish on those windy roads. When we were in Florence, the motorini all jockied through the cars waiting for the light to change. When they took off I thought I was watching the start of the Grand Prix.

  • that's italy. We' re all machos and and 'schumis'.But also italians are the best people on this planet!!! I love them!

  • ahahahah i'm one of the motorini!!! :D great video! ciao da salerno

  • Fantastico! Quali motorini?

  • Nice video.

I've been there and it's easily the most beautiful stretch of road I've ever traveled along. I'm definitely going back there some day.

  • I would not recommend driving drunk on this road...

  • Hi Anhacus, supprisingly during the weeks we were there, in two different years, we only saw one accident and it was a motorcycle who had a physical discussion with a side of a rock wall on one of the curves. Fortunately he was not seriously injured.

  • There's a similar road in Bucharest, Romania, I believe. I saw it a few months ago on TV. But it has no guardrail or wall on the cliff side. They showed dozens of cars and busses scattered along the bottom of the cliff.

  • @anhacus: There are a few spectacular mountain roads in Romania, but certainly not in Bucharest. But don't be fooled, being totally flat doesn't make Bucharest any safer to drive :)

  • it's wonderfull. This is the first video which talks about my italy without commonplaces

  • Thank you for your nice words. We love Italy, the culture and the people. I miei nonni nacquero a Corfino nell'Abruzzo regione.

  • Great Video.. I was in the south of France and heard of the beauty of the Amalfi Coast... I can't wait to visit. Great video... This is what youtube is for!

  • Thanks for your comments. Did you see my other videos of Capri and Amalfi? Have a grand time when you visit there.

  • Beautiful....im doing a charity rally in september which finishes in Rimmini...vis Stelvio Pass amongst others..cant wait

  • Thanks for your comment. You should have some fantastic weather in September.

  • I love this video - I drove the Amalfi Coast a couple years ago and have never been able to explain to my friends and family the experience - this totally does it! Thanks for the "memory smiles".

  • I am pleased you could enjoy the ride ... again. Thank you for your kind remarks. Ha una buona giornata.

  • i went on a coach along there wen i were little. i were almost sick. i can only rember seeing 2 ferrai's it wernt that intresting as a kid. but i like this video. now am older i wouldnt mind going again. nice video

  • Thank you for your kind words. Yes, it is quite an interesting ride.

  • Thank you Aldimarvp ... very kind of you!

Dr Blockbuster, sono scozzese, is not such a youngster and would have to own up to staying at The Sorrento Palace, The Bristol at Sorrento, The Royal at Sorrento, and the Santa Caterina at Amalfi ... BUT that was too long ago sfortunato

Qualcosa da bere ??? Un espresso doppio ?

    Ciao Dr Blockbuster

  • Ciao Dottore. Il Caffe' corretto e' un espresso con liquore. In questo caso e' stato Sambuca ... e un doppio porzione. "Caffe'corretto" is espresso with a shot of liquor. In this case it was a double shot of Sambuca. "Dotorre" Molinari ... good for coughs, colds and what ails you.

  • Dr Blockbuster loves this ... a pleasure and some nice music too ....

When can I go back !!!!

  • Thank you for you kind words. We have been back twice and truly love the experience.

  • I'm American but my family is from Ascoli Piceno.

  • This is excellent - the Amalfi coast is just plain fantastic - no where better!

  • Thank you for your comment. We have been back to the Amalfi Coast twice and just love the area. When I took my sister there this past July she had "white knucles" for the first day.

  • aww I miss that. Italy is so great! Went there my first time for 2 weeks this summer, hope to go back one day! Great video!!

  • Thanks for your kind words. It sounds like you are hooked. We have been 5 times to Italy and 1 time to Sicily. It's a great place to make video DVDs.

  • been there and im only 16
