how does it pull your boat out of the water. im guessing it has no problem? my boat appears to be a bit bigger, and im wondering how a 150 would do. i use a 1999 f50 now, and that is a little over kill.
@parshnipe69 This motor makes peak tq between about 1500 - 5000 RPM. That with the short 1st gear and the 3.73 gears, it pulls great! My truck in 4x4 low will pull the boat up the ramp with just idle! It's pretty funny!
@ashtrey05 thanks a lot man, i think ill go with an eco instead of an f250. i just didnt know how id pull it out of the water, some of the boat lunches around where i live are very very pathetic. most are very steep, and some aren't even cemented. but thats why they make 4x4 right?? lol thanks again
@89killanate You do realize this is the quickest stock half ton? Most cars don't even do 0-60 this fast, and they aren't even pulling anything. I also noticed you don't have any videos to prove me otherwise.
@ashtrey05 it has nothing to do with banging it into gear. it is just a slow single clutch transmission whereas VW for example. has developed the dual clutch which shifts in the blink of an eye.
@AndreasFalk8 This truck has the 6R80 transmission which uses a One Way Clutch / Mechanical Diode, meets higher demands of high powered trucks and sport cars, more efficient, no slipping, and capable of 800 ft/lbs torque. The ECU defuels before shifting into 2, making for a safer shift at high loads. This transmission has more technology in it than the VW, whereas it uses sprag and roller clutches that have been around for over 50 and 100 years.
@ashtrey05 i get your point. VW's transmissions though are the first dual clutch systems and has the quickest shift of any clutches. The technology was mind blowing when it came out.
But i guess you're right. Different clutches for different purposes. VW also didn't use the dual clutch in their Amarok pick up.
@ashtrey05 v=VRtD_rDimHk or v=8EuQ6f8rgT4 or v=38zWybjFPi0 shall i go on? Fords are like hondas, built with loose tolerances so it works fine until you get to 100000 miles, then it all disintegrates
@GermanyIsAwes0me Loose tolerances was my Trans Am which misfired w/ a dead cylinder at 110k and blew up at 144K I sold it and bought a Honda which I still have. It just turned 305k. I trust is so much i drove it to the east coast twice from the midwest in the last three years.
@GermanyIsAwes0me my 1997 Ford Explorer has 214k miles on a 5.0 v8 still going strong with just routine maintenance long as you take care your car it will last.
@GermanyIsAwes0me please list your sources for the info provided. I happen to have a 1999 F350 v10 with over 260K miles that runs fine. Any car should last if taken care of.
@GermanyIsAwes0me have a 99 F150 5.4 2x4 210xxx driven like it was stolen from day one over 50 bottles of nitrous 175 shot put throw here never had a problem.. thought the trans was going out at 184 but turned out to be a vss. and i im very bad up upkeep all ways running the oil down till there is nothing on the stick... I love FORD
@GermanyIsAwes0me My first car was a Honda Accord with 287k miles. ashtrey is right, any car -should- last a long time being it is taken care of. There are of course, exceptions, (cough cough) looking at you 2.5L Subaru motor.
@GermanyIsAwes0me 2000 Explorer sport 4.0l v6 with 174,xxx miles on it, and original trans to boot, only issue I've had the last 60,000 of owning it was a cracked windshield from a rock. My co-worker has a 2004 Acura RSX type S with 124,xxx and leaks oil and has a cracked oil pan and possibly burns coolant, but we haven't confirmed that yet.
@540123TJR I will try making more videos soon. I will be going to do a dyno run with how the truck is now (33" tires and exhaust) and then do a run with the new Bully Dog GT programmer. I will try to make a video of all that.
This is supposed to be quick...My 06 Hemi Ram with 4.56 gears pulls 6,000 lbs better than the EB pulls your 5,000 lbs and with 800 lbs of tongue weight would easily spin the 305/50/R20s on it. Pulling 6,000 lbs in 4th gear at 2,500 rpm @ 70 I get 15 mpg as well.
@testy462 I will outrun that Ecoboost with an equal load... At 5,500 lbs my Ram is going 13.40s @ 99 in the 1/4 mile and pulls like an animal up to 6,500 rpm. Truck has a very mild cam, high STR torque converter, and 4.56 gears with custom tuning.
@Fast355 OK, so your modded ram can take a stock ecoboost...until the owner gets a tuner and a CAI lol. Then, with a stock cam and a 3.73 gear compared to a retarded 4.56 (must be a ball on the highway lol), still having factory warranty (if anything goes wrong, put stock tune in, they never know) truck will blow your doors off, while still being a much better, tougher all around truck.
Sorry chief, but your at the bottom of the food chain lol.
Just further proof you know nothing about the Ram. With a .67 OD ratio and 32" tall tires, I am at 2,200 rpm @ 70 mph and running on 4 cylinders...Thats right I get 26 mpg @ 55, 22-23 mpg running 65 mph and 20-21 mpg @ 85 mph (spinning 2,500 rpm). So much for those 4.56s and my 2.8L 4 cylinder.
@Fast355 I suggest you check out the ecoboost torture test for proof that nothing detonates.
So far as MPG... you can make up whatever numbers you like lol. Apparently big tires and steep gears make your EPA milage go UP lol. And I like the excuse of your barebones truck not having anything to "break" lol.
Its a better truck, all around, in every way. If someone offered to trade you straight up and you refused, all you would be proving is how dumb you really are.
The Ecoboost is a POS, trust me, they will break and plenty of them. Ever seen a dynamic compression ratio calculator, stock they are playing with fire. Push the timing and boost and it will go BANG. Blown head gaskets will happen, etc.
As for steep gears and tires....The truck had 33" tall tire STOCK and a craptastic 3.55 gear and with the stock cam got 14 mpg at best. I would run with you mpg anyday as well. No fiction to 480 miles on 22 gallons @ 72 mph avg speed.
@Fast355 My 05 got much better mileage after replacing the cams, springs, and added phaser limiters, 3,000 stall, 4.56 gears, shorty headers, full dual 3" exhaust, and ported heads. I made the engine more efficient and more powerful with less fuel. I basically let the thing breath better.
@Fast355 dynamic compression ratio? Lol your so talking out of your ass. You realize this is a DIRECT INJECTED engine, that high compression ratios are commonplace right??
You realize these tunes are out so quick because they have been using them since 2010 in the SHO too right? With zero problems?
@Fast355 Dynamic compression ratio calculator? With that statement I've convinced you don't even know what dynamic compression is. Did you bother too see what your cam did to your 5.7's dynamic compression?
Numbnuts, I've seen 4.6's WITHOUT piston oil cooling jets and WITHOUT DI pushing 16 psi ON 18* of timing on 93 octane....AT A 10.5:1 compression ratio...RELIABLY. Blown head gaskets, lol, you act like the Ford's builds glass jaw products like Dodge.
@Fast355 I just love the ignorance and stupidity of this comment. Because an online dynamic compression ratio calculator has it ALL OVER Ford's hundred million dollar supercomputers utilizing computational fluid dynamics and engine simulations. Like I already said, I've already borne witness to Ford Modulars that would make your Dodge worshipping, dynamic compression ratio miscalculating head explode.
Except don't you think there is a reason Ford limited the boost to where they did and brought in in at a certain RPM to begin with. Start pressing those limits and things will go boom. Also your 4.6 comparison is probably in a light car, not a truck that can be towing 7,000+ lbs at high loads for long periods of times. I'd put the new Chrysler 6.4 MDS/VVT/Variable Intake in a Crew Cab Ram and kill your stupid ecoboost in EVERYTHING, power, towing, MPG, etc.
@Fast355 BTW, You should check out the MPG challenge ford put out lol. Bone stock, no tweaks, and no "MPG" tune installed, a the winner got 28.3 MPG, and thats combined city and highway driving (she admits to sticking to around 55 on the highway).
I run 80-85 mph and your wee little V6 has no advantage there. My 5.7 has no problem cruising 100 mph as a 2.8L 4 cylinder. I have been over 100 mph in OD and still held MDS.
@Fast355 you do know that just a simple tune on this truck can make about 90 hp right? Fastlane did this. Just cutting out the factory exhaust people are seeing 40 torque increase. I removed the factory speed limiter (without tune) on my 3.5tt with 33" off road tires and so far have gotten up to 127 mph
@ashtrey05 Just forget him man, he is actually proud of a 5.7L DODGE (lol) from 08. Seriously, if it wasn't for cummins dodge would have quit making trucks a long time ago, what piles of crap.
And LOL, he has his DODGE FOR SPEED? Really? ROFL. Whew, them mid 13s are SMOKIN buddy...lol
I never have filmed a video of me running 13.xx, but my fellow racing buddy Randy (Silvrram on here) has videos of both my Titan and Ram running at the track.
@Fast355 you should watch the videos of my old F150, it will out do your truck. Top speed of 152, same mods as your truck. And this was with the heaviest truck for the 2005..the flareside extended cab. About 6,200lbs with me in it. 0-6 in 5 seconds average.
@Fast355 You you have a cammed, geared, likely tuned 4.56 geared 5.7. Let's throw a tune and exhaust on the EcoBoost and watch it destroy your 5.7.
Get real, you're comparing a modded/cammed 5.7 against a stock EcoBoost. Tune and exhaust alone will have the EcoBoost making your "Hemi" (it's not really) crying uncle and getting better fuel economy and making more low end torque while doing it.
@Fast355 you need to watch this video: #16 of 22 2011 Ford F-150 BFT Roundup: search that in youtube. This has less weight that my boat and I can get it to the factory speed limiter...stock.
@Fast355 Nice dream, the EcoBoost completely trashes the newer 390 HP Hemis, your 06 Hemi doesn't stand a chance unless you've got more than just gears. The EcoBoost completely makes the 5.7 Hemi look like boat anchors.
Maybe you should check out some of my videos before you run your mouth at this ecoboost junk. With a very mild cam upgrade (should have come with it from the factory), high STR torque converter, 4.56 gears it has gone 13.40 @ 99 mph in the 1/4, spinning to a 1.98s 60' time and the 06 quad cab is 5,500 lbs.
@Fast355 And your missing the point. Its going to eat your lunch all while getting over 20 MPG highway with a V6. Its going to out tow, out haul, out run, out brake, your truck all while getting better MPG and being more comfortable with more options, better interior, and more sound reduction.
In other words, its a much better truck. Get used to it.
I have the Ram for going fast and a Titan for cruising.
But you are really needing to study up on your Rams my friend. All options do is give you POS something to break and a trip to the service department. As for being able to out tow/out haul/etc. I would love to line my Ram up with your tweaked ecoturd on a 105*F day and climb Ratan flat out with a 7,800 lbs travel trailer behind your truck, but honestly your motor would detonate itself to death half way up.
@mitch9521 I use my 2011 F150 3.7 V6 to tow just under 6000 lbs. I tow a 3500 lb car on a flat deck trailer. Tows just fine. I was expecting the V6 to struggle but it tows effortless. I can see V8's being phased out of half tons within the next 6 or 7 years.
@ThePantyDroper I carried 2-2400lb's of top soil in my 2000 4.3 Silverado,(with 3.73 rear) wasn't to bad and thats with over 200k. only has 200hp but is good enough to get the job done. I don't think most ppl need a power of the V8, 300hp should be more then enough for most 1/2 ton buyers.
@640101vh Ya definitley. With the way technology is heading there's really no need for gas guzzling V8's. My 3.7 has 278 torque and 305 hp. A little engine like that producing those numbers is impressive. The ecoboost can tow 11'300 ilbs. It's nice ford still offers a V8, but I think they are just doing that because they know a lot of buyers aren't convinced a V6 will do the job. I wouldn't be surprised if they scrap V8's for the next gen F150.
@mitch9521 I think they might still offer it just because there are a lot of people who are close minded and will never have a V6 in their truck no matter what the tow rating is. I'm on an F150 forum and so many people bought the 5.0 because they didn't think a V6 could do the job. But then again both the 3.7 and ecoboost have outsold the 5.0 so the possibility of scrapping the V8 is there. I can't wait to see what kind of numbers the 3.7 will be pushing in the next gen.
Im 15 and just got a 1997 ford f150, 5.4 triton extended cab, i was wondering what are some cheap easy ways to improve hp? I bought it with the cat took of the exhaust, good or bad for power?
@wackemanstackum remove the cats, ur check engine light will come on but u can cash them in to ur local metal recycler. the money u get for the cats will pay for the repair bill so its a free hp upgrade. if u have enough cash buy a tuner/performance chip.
@xterrasesc The cats were removed when i got the truck so the hp gain is there, how much more hp does that give the engine? In a general area? And ill look at the performance tuners!! thanks alot!
@wackemanstackum There won't be much gain with the cats removed if the ECU is not tuned for it. If you install headers with good, straight piping and an intake, you can get a good 40+ torque.. At least with the 3v 5.4 motor. Be sure to have it tuned if you do all that, because it will be running lean and hot otherwise.
@ashtrey05 the owner of the truck removed the cats an put dual straight pipes, i wouldnt imagine most people sync the ecu without the converters? would you
@wackemanstackum It is best to get a programming device, like an SCT x3 and have a tuning shop create a custom tune. It is the only safe way to make everything work like it should.
@wackemanstackum It's better to run rich than to run lean. It'll keep everything cool (other than the cats, which will kill them if you have them). Still though, getting a tune will definitely give you more power. The ECU can only auto correct for small variations like for altitude and humidity.
@ashtrey05 makes sence, i dont know for sure but it seems like the truck should have a bit more power for having 230 hp and 330 lb tq. Mabey im wrong but it seems like it should be a bit faster than it is, this might be happening due to not having the ecu in sync with the converters being off the truck.
Lean or rich does not matter that much with this engine, It's direct injected like a diesel. The danger of too lean is pre-ignition or detonation. That is not possible with Direct Injected engine. There is no fuel present during the compression stroke. That is one of the benefits of DI. You can run high compression AND high boost, and at idle you can even crack the throttle open and control engine speed with the fueling. Pretty cool technology
@kens97sto171 - That's not true at all. Direct injected diesels operate entirely differently than direct injected gasoline engines. DI gas engines still inject during the intake stroke while the intake valves are open (just like an indirect injection gas engine) so the fuel mixure IS present during the compression stroke. Only DI diesels inject near TDI of the compression stroke.
To see this, search youtube for "ecoboost injection" and watch one of the many animations.
You are correct. I just looked at the Eco boost animation, and a Hyundai animation, works the same way. What the hell is the benefit then? I realize you get better fuel control with the high pressure, but you could do that behind the valve in the intake runner too. Seems like a lot of complication with little benefit, with fuel present at the compression stroke, you have all the problems with any gas engine, detonation, pre ignition etc.
@kens97sto171 - Yep, they still face most of the problems indirect injection engines face. There are some advantages, mainly a cooling effect within the combustion chamber which allows a combination of higher compression ratio, more boost pressure, and more aggressive ignition timing before knock sets in. It's enough to give an advantage.
You CAN run a gasoline engine with compression igntion (edited) like a diesel. It's called HCCI. The technology isn't ready for primetime yet though.
@ashtrey05 the owner put dual straight pipes on after he took the converters off, in your experience do people sync the ecu when they take the converters off and if not how do you sync it?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
you people are idiots. a v6 will never be like a v8. i have an 06 silverado 5.3 with a 7 inch lift and i beat a 2002 mustang gt. so that just means ford sucks
@drummersoccer1 Watch Ford's video for the Ecoboost F-150. Towing a trailer it smoked a 5.3 Silverado. The Chevy was new and the Ford had over 150K miles on the motor.
Instead of talking out of your ass, educate yourself on engines, transmission, gearing, and torque.
Along with many other things. there are 4cyl that can beat a v8. obviously v6's are fully capable of beating v8's. just as v8's are capable of getting better themselves.
@OfficerSheepDog it depends on the application. Ya, there are a few stout 4 bangers out there, like the boxster engine and the engine in the honda s2000. But strap a heavy trailer behind them and they are DOGS because they do not make tq at low rpm. That is where the advantages of a larger v8 come in. Example, the 5.4 3v Ford makes 80% tq at 2k, which is great to pull something heavy. But the bigger the motor, the less revs you get so top speed is lower, usually. A v8 can last longer under load.
@drummersoccer1 Kid please PLEASE PLEASE stop talking about daddies truck. You are too short too even reach the gas pedals. Nor less know anything about what you're talking about please stop embarrassing yourself.
damn! Don't burn the engine up. The probably want get 100,000 miles out of it like that. Turbos set the engine life way back when you drive at high rpms. Most people trade in after 3 years anyway. Good luck.
@electricfeel007 i think you have proved you know absolutely nothing about a turbocharged engine. if its such a disadvantage then why do the r and d to put them on a new truck? why do diesel that get 1 million miles use them?
@electricfeel007 have you not watched the torture tests? After all the hell they put that motor through, which added up to be around 150k miles, ford took it apart and the engine still met brand new factory specs. Plus, the ECU limits the power for the first couple thousand miles so it can break in properly.
@FearedEagle I do. btw, I have a Triton v10 in my 99' F350 with over 250k miles and never had any issues with it other than normal maintenance. A motor will last a very long time if taken care of. When Ford did the testing, they did all the recommended maintenance. Most engines fail due to lack of this.
@ashtrey05 Ford is definetly more on track than they have been in years, can't knock them for that, their even starting to make truely PROPER Mustangs for the first time in decades!
I had a custom tuned/CIA/Full magnaflow exhaust on my 06' 5.4L, and thing was a boat anchor compared to the ecoboost I just picked up. Don't get me wrong, I LOVED the sound of my 5.4, but what the ecoboost lacks in sound, it makes up for in hauling ass. Have you seen the torque curve vs. the other engines?
@Cjanicek1 Which motor? This stomps the 5.3 liter. Not sure about the 6.0 or the 6.2 because I can't find any videos of it or know anyone who owns one. Watch this video: WCQ6Du0fFag ... search that in youtube.
@ashtrey05 Mine's just the standard 4.8.. Unfortunately I'm still in college and can't afford a new F150. Even towing that boat, I'm pretty sure it beats my 0-60.
@bmwrocks325 r u shure my dad has a 4 door fx2 5.4 with 3.73 and it could sopposably tow a little more than 10,000lb that wat it said on the drivers manual
@bmwrocks325 I have the same combo, just an 05. Same engine, tranny, body and chassis though. It's great for towing, nothing like that EcoBoost though!
@MrChevypower you like your ford? I love mine, just need to get a trailer brake controller installed, and it sure revs high on hills towing I was doing 4grand going up this hill w a 7500lbs trailer on the highway
@bmwrocks325 Yeah that 5.4 has more balls than what people give it credit for. I don't have a trailer controller on mine either. I have had the Chevy 5.3, and it didn't compare for towing. Not even close. If I bought a current Chevy gasser, it would have to be a 6.0 2500. But the EcoBoost kills that too! The EcoBoost is easily the best gas engine pickup on the market. (Ford did a towing 0-60 test between the F150 EB and the Chevy 6.0 2500). As for the diesels, I am partial to the Duramax.
This engine is amazing...test drove and was STUNNED. The torque they got out of this is incredible. It's going to be perfect for my 6000 lb travel trailer.
@sho942000 I chose this motor for its 11,300lbs tow rating and better fuel economy vs the 7,700lbs rating in the 5.0 liter. I won't worry about repair issues, I have a 100,000 mile warranty. If I was going for sound, I would have kept my 2005 with my built motor. (I do miss it quite a bit)
@ashtrey05 I think people who don't tow won't appreciate that acceleration test in this video, but I have a 2005 5.4, and although it has awesome torque, it doesn't accelerate anything like that with that kind of load. That video makes it look like the EcoBoost doesn't know (or care) what is behind it. My 5.4 destroys the Chevy 5.3 as a towing engine, which I used to own (hence the name). If I were to buy a new half ton, it would be the EcoBoost. I will hopefully be getting a Duramax though.
@ashtrey05 You may miss the sound of your old truck, but I imagine you love the look of your new fuel savings :P The new eco-boost defies everything the top 3 was doing for decades. Bigger is not always better. I imagine that once the aftermarket for these engines get larger the power/torque output will only get better as well.
I think once that happens, it will just be for fun to those who want to drive fast or a rather decent excuse for Ford to eliminate the need of any other Larger V8's over the 5.0L. I prefer it being the 2nd option as an Ecoboost 5.0L would deliver 500+ HP easily & at the same time deliver better MPG's than a standard 6.2L
@Intechdude300 Oh ya...The 5.0L is an awesome engine. I just took deleivery on a 2011 FX4 Supercab with the 5.0L and its a monster without Forced Induction. I can't imagine how it would run with Ecoboosting.
@bg1379 A stock 5.4 usually gets about 14-16 without towing...my 2005 3v 5.4 got about 9-10 towing that boat. Our 6.0 Hummer H2 gets about 6.5 towing it.
@ashtrey05 and while towing 6k#I can get around 14-15. With the bed fully loaded I got 14. Not bad for a 10 year old truck with 170k miles on it. She's a real beauty.
@shadooky My 05 had 4.56 gears and had ported heads and big cams. The mpg wasn't too bad...until I snapped a drive shaft causing my tq converter to get messed up. Then my mph was about 10 until I decided to trade it in. I put about 120k miles on it. I miss that truck! 0-60 was less than 5.5 seconds...and it sounded awesome. I miss that v8 sound.
@ashtrey05 I always wondered wat happend to that sweet cammed 05. Ive been subbed for a while. I'm weeks away from 37" swampers, 8 inch of lift (all susp), 4.88's, intake, straight piped and x piped, e-fans, TB spacer, an some other power goodies and cosmetics, and s VMP custon tune set to tie it all up. Then I'll be uploading videos regularly. I hope to get 13 mpg. Im diggin your new ecoboost alot though, when are the mods comin'!? waiting on that waranty? haha.
It's quicker than my car without towing anything...
ktmlover90 1 day ago
how does it pull your boat out of the water. im guessing it has no problem? my boat appears to be a bit bigger, and im wondering how a 150 would do. i use a 1999 f50 now, and that is a little over kill.
parshnipe69 2 weeks ago
@parshnipe69 This motor makes peak tq between about 1500 - 5000 RPM. That with the short 1st gear and the 3.73 gears, it pulls great! My truck in 4x4 low will pull the boat up the ramp with just idle! It's pretty funny!
ashtrey05 2 weeks ago
@ashtrey05 thanks a lot man, i think ill go with an eco instead of an f250. i just didnt know how id pull it out of the water, some of the boat lunches around where i live are very very pathetic. most are very steep, and some aren't even cemented. but thats why they make 4x4 right?? lol thanks again

Slow as Dick

@89killanate You do realize this is the quickest stock half ton? Most cars don't even do 0-60 this fast, and they aren't even pulling anything. I also noticed you don't have any videos to prove me otherwise.

slooow transmission
AndreasFalk8 4 weeks ago
@AndreasFalk8 Even with a slow transmission it kills Dodge's and Chevrolet's efforts by a very noticeable amount.
Viatox 4 weeks ago
@AndreasFalk8 ya, it is kinda slow, but it's way better than banging into gear with every shift like I have seen in some other trucks.
ashtrey05 4 weeks ago
@ashtrey05 it has nothing to do with banging it into gear. it is just a slow single clutch transmission whereas VW for example. has developed the dual clutch which shifts in the blink of an eye.
AndreasFalk8 4 weeks ago
@AndreasFalk8 This truck has the 6R80 transmission which uses a One Way Clutch / Mechanical Diode, meets higher demands of high powered trucks and sport cars, more efficient, no slipping, and capable of 800 ft/lbs torque. The ECU defuels before shifting into 2, making for a safer shift at high loads. This transmission has more technology in it than the VW, whereas it uses sprag and roller clutches that have been around for over 50 and 100 years.
ashtrey05 4 weeks ago
@ashtrey05 i get your point. VW's transmissions though are the first dual clutch systems and has the quickest shift of any clutches. The technology was mind blowing when it came out.
But i guess you're right. Different clutches for different purposes. VW also didn't use the dual clutch in their Amarok pick up.
peace out and HF

This is supposed to be quick...My 06 Hemi Ram with 4.56 gears pulls 6,000 lbs better than the EB pulls your 5,000 lbs and with 800 lbs of tongue weight would easily spin the 305/50/R20s on it. Pulling 6,000 lbs in 4th gear at 2,500 rpm @ 70 I get 15 mpg as well.
Fast355 1 month ago
@Fast355 The ecoboost would EMBARASS (really badly) your 06 ram.
testy462 1 month ago 6
@testy462 I will outrun that Ecoboost with an equal load... At 5,500 lbs my Ram is going 13.40s @ 99 in the 1/4 mile and pulls like an animal up to 6,500 rpm. Truck has a very mild cam, high STR torque converter, and 4.56 gears with custom tuning.
Fast355 1 month ago
@Fast355 OK, so your modded ram can take a stock ecoboost...until the owner gets a tuner and a CAI lol. Then, with a stock cam and a 3.73 gear compared to a retarded 4.56 (must be a ball on the highway lol), still having factory warranty (if anything goes wrong, put stock tune in, they never know) truck will blow your doors off, while still being a much better, tougher all around truck.
Sorry chief, but your at the bottom of the food chain lol.
testy462 1 month ago
@testy462
Fast355 1 month ago
@Fast355 I suggest you check out the ecoboost torture test for proof that nothing detonates.
So far as MPG... you can make up whatever numbers you like lol. Apparently big tires and steep gears make your EPA milage go UP lol. And I like the excuse of your barebones truck not having anything to "break" lol.
Its a better truck, all around, in every way. If someone offered to trade you straight up and you refused, all you would be proving is how dumb you really are.
testy462 1 month ago
@testy462
Fast355 1 month ago
@Fast355 My 05 got much better mileage after replacing the cams, springs, and added phaser limiters, 3,000 stall, 4.56 gears, shorty headers, full dual 3" exhaust, and ported heads. I made the engine more efficient and more powerful with less fuel. I basically let the thing breath better.
ashtrey05 1 month ago
@Fast355 dynamic compression ratio? Lol your so talking out of your ass. You realize this is a DIRECT INJECTED engine, that high compression ratios are commonplace right??
You realize these tunes are out so quick because they have been using them since 2010 in the SHO too right? With zero problems?
Get over it, your junk punk 5.7 sucks.
testy462 1 month ago
@Fast355 Dynamic compression ratio calculator? With that statement I've convinced you don't even know what dynamic compression is. Did you bother too see what your cam did to your 5.7's dynamic compression?
Numbnuts, I've seen 4.6's WITHOUT piston oil cooling jets and WITHOUT DI pushing 16 psi ON 18* of timing on 93 octane....AT A 10.5:1 compression ratio...RELIABLY. Blown head gaskets, lol, you act like the Ford's builds glass jaw products like Dodge.
LieKiller 1 month ago
@Fast355 I just love the ignorance and stupidity of this comment. Because an online dynamic compression ratio calculator has it ALL OVER Ford's hundred million dollar supercomputers utilizing computational fluid dynamics and engine simulations. Like I already said, I've already borne witness to Ford Modulars that would make your Dodge worshipping, dynamic compression ratio miscalculating head explode.
LieKiller 1 month ago
@LieKiller
Fast355 1 month ago
@Fast355 BTW, You should check out the MPG challenge ford put out lol. Bone stock, no tweaks, and no "MPG" tune installed, a the winner got 28.3 MPG, and thats combined city and highway driving (she admits to sticking to around 55 on the highway).
testy462 1 month ago
@testy462
I run 80-85 mph and your wee little V6 has no advantage there. My 5.7 has no problem cruising 100 mph as a 2.8L 4 cylinder. I have been over 100 mph in OD and still held MDS.
Fast355 1 month ago
@Fast355 you do know that just a simple tune on this truck can make about 90 hp right? Fastlane did this. Just cutting out the factory exhaust people are seeing 40 torque increase. ashtrey05 1 month ago
LieKiller 1 month ago
@Fast355 you need to watch this video: #16 of 22 2011 Ford F-150 BFT Roundup: search that in youtube. This has less weight that my boat and I can get it to the factory speed limiter...stock.
ashtrey05 1 month ago
@Fast355 Nice dream, the EcoBoost completely trashes the newer 390 HP Hemis, your 06 Hemi doesn't stand a chance unless you've got more than just gears. The EcoBoost completely makes the 5.7 Hemi look like boat anchors.
LieKiller 1 month ago
@LieKiller
Fast355 1 month ago
@Fast355 And your missing the point. Its going to eat your lunch all while getting over 20 MPG highway with a V6. Its going to out tow, out haul, out run, out brake, your truck all while getting better MPG and being more comfortable with more options, better interior, and more sound reduction.
In other words, its a much better truck. Get used to it.
testy462 1 month ago
@testy462
Fast355 1 month ago
nice to see that you dont need a v8 to tow heavy stuff anymore...
mitch9521 4 months ago
@mitch9521 I use my 2011 F150 3.7 V6 to tow just under 6000 lbs. I tow a 3500 lb car on a flat deck trailer. Tows just fine. I was expecting the V6 to struggle but it tows effortless. I can see V8's being phased out of half tons within the next 6 or 7 years.
ThePantyDroper 4 months ago
@ThePantyDroper I carried 2-2400lb's of top soil in my 2000 4.3 Silverado,(with 3.73 rear) wasn't to bad and thats with over 200k. only has 200hp but is good enough to get the job done. I don't think most ppl need a power of the V8, 300hp should be more then enough for most 1/2 ton buyers.
640101vh 4 months ago
@640101vh Ya definitley. With the way technology is heading there's really no need for gas guzzling V8's. My 3.7 has 278 torque and 305 hp. A little engine like that producing those numbers is impressive. The ecoboost can tow 11'300 ilbs. It's nice ford still offers a V8, but I think they are just doing that because they know a lot of buyers aren't convinced a V6 will do the job. I wouldn't be surprised if they scrap V8's for the next gen F150.
ThePantyDroper 4 months ago
@ThePantyDroper oh yeah, id give ford 5 years before V8's are a thing of the past in the F150
mitch9521 3 months ago
@mitch9521 I think they might still offer it just because there are a lot of people who are close minded and will never have a V6 in their truck no matter what the tow rating is. I'm on an F150 forum and so many people bought the 5.0 because they didn't think a V6 could do the job. But then again both the 3.7 and ecoboost have outsold the 5.0 so the possibility of scrapping the V8 is there. I can't wait to see what kind of numbers the 3.7 will be pushing in the next gen.
ThePantyDroper 3 months ago
Im 15 and just got a 1997 ford f150, 5.4 triton extended cab, i was wondering what are some cheap easy ways to improve hp? I bought it with the cat took of the exhaust, good or bad for power?
wackemanstackum 5 months ago
@wackemanstackum remove the cats, ur check engine light will come on but u can cash them in to ur local metal recycler. the money u get for the cats will pay for the repair bill so its a free hp upgrade. if u have enough cash buy a tuner/performance chip.
xterrasesc 4 months ago
@xterrasesc The cats were removed when i got the truck so the hp gain is there, how much more hp does that give the engine? In a general area? And ill look at the performance tuners!! thanks alot!
wackemanstackum 4 months ago
@wackemanstackum There won't be much gain with the cats removed if the ECU is not tuned for it. If you install headers with good, straight piping and an intake, you can get a good 40+ torque.. At least with the 3v 5.4 motor. Be sure to have it tuned if you do all that, because it will be running lean and hot otherwise.
ashtrey05 4 months ago
@ashtrey05 the owner of the truck removed the cats an put dual straight pipes, i wouldnt imagine most people sync the ecu without the converters? would you
wackemanstackum 4 months ago
@wackemanstackum It is best to get a programming device, like an SCT x3 and have a tuning shop create a custom tune. It is the only safe way to make everything work like it should.
ashtrey05 4 months ago
@ashtrey05 isnt not running lean because you can smell the rich smell of exhaust
wackemanstackum 4 months ago
@wackemanstackum It's better to run rich than to run lean. It'll keep everything cool (other than the cats, which will kill them if you have them). Still though, getting a tune will definitely give you more power. The ECU can only auto correct for small variations like for altitude and humidity.
ashtrey05 4 months ago
@ashtrey05 makes sence, i dont know for sure but it seems like the truck should have a bit more power for having 230 hp and 330 lb tq. Mabey im wrong but it seems like it should be a bit faster than it is, this might be happening due to not having the ecu in sync with the converters being off the truck.
wackemanstackum 4 months ago
@ashtrey05
Pretty cool technology
kens97sto171 3 months ago
@kens97sto171 - That's not true at all. Direct injected diesels operate entirely differently than direct injected gasoline engines. DI gas engines still inject during the intake stroke while the intake valves are open (just like an indirect injection gas engine) so the fuel mixure IS present during the compression stroke. Only DI diesels inject near TDI of the compression stroke.
To see this, search youtube for "ecoboost injection" and watch one of the many animations.
ChrisOstberg 3 months ago
@ChrisOstberg

ChrisOstberg 3 months ago
This has been flagged as spam show
@kens97sto171 - Yep, they still face most of the problems indirect injection engines face.
ChrisOstberg 3 months ago
@ashtrey05 the owner put dual straight pipes on after he took the converters off, in your experience do people sync the ecu when they take the converters off and if not how do you sync it?

madmatt2024 5 months ago
@drummersoccer1
Instead of talking out of your ass, educate yourself on engines, transmission, gearing, and torque.
Along with many other things. there are 4cyl that can beat a v8. obviously v6's are fully capable of beating v8's. just as v8's are capable of getting better themselves.
OfficerSheepDog 5 months ago
@OfficerSheepDog it depends on the application. Ya, there are a few stout 4 bangers out there, like the boxster engine and the engine in the honda s2000. But strap a heavy trailer behind them and they are DOGS because they do not make tq at low rpm. That is where the advantages of a larger v8 come in. Example, the 5.4 3v Ford makes 80% tq at 2k, which is great to pull something heavy. But the bigger the motor, the less revs you get so top speed is lower, usually. A v8 can last longer under load.

@electricfeel007 i think you have proved you know absolutely nothing about a turbocharged engine. if its such a disadvantage then why do the r and d to put them on a new truck? why do diesel that get 1 million miles use them?
specializ20 6 months ago
@electricfeel007 have you not watched the torture tests? After all the hell they put that motor through, which added up to be around 150k miles, ford took it apart and the engine still met brand new factory specs. Plus, the ECU limits the power for the first couple thousand miles so it can break in properly.

bmwrocks325 7 months ago
@bmwrocks325 Yeah that 5.4 has more balls than what people give it credit for. I don't have a trailer controller on mine either. I have had the Chevy 5.3, and it didn't compare for towing. Not even close. If I bought a current Chevy gasser, it would have to be a 6.0 2500. But the EcoBoost kills that too! The EcoBoost is easily the best gas engine pickup on the market. (Ford did a towing 0-60 test between the F150 EB and the Chevy 6.0 2500). As for the diesels, I am partial to the Duramax.

Sounds like a minivan. Should have gotten the proper V8. The 5.0 won't be the repair nightmare in the future.
sho942000 8 months ago
@sho942000 I chose this motor for its 11,300lbs tow rating and better fuel economy vs the 7,700lbs rating in the 5.0 liter. I won't worry about repair issues, I have a 100,000 mile warranty. If I was going for sound, I would have kept my 2005 with my built motor. (I do miss it quite a bit)
ashtrey05 8 months ago 21

@sho942000 hey look, somebody using a truck because they tow with them not just becaus they like the look.... what an odd concept!

Anything a V8 can do, Ecoboost can do better.

@Intechdude300 Until a V8 gets Ecoboosted.

@MercuryMorrison1
Intechdude300 8 months ago
@Intechdude300 Oh ya...The 5.0L is an awesome engine. I just took deleivery on a 2011 FX4 Supercab with the 5.0L and its a monster without Forced Induction. I can't imagine how it would run with Ecoboosting.

What kind of mileage did you get towing that?
bg1379 9 months ago
@bg1379 It was very hilly where I towed. I got about 12mpg. If it was flatter, I would have gotten about 15.

@ashtrey05
What would like a 5.4 have gotten?
bg1379 9 months ago
@bg1379 A stock 5.4 usually gets about 14-16 without towing...my 2005 3v 5.4 got about 9-10 towing that boat. Our 6.0 Hummer H2 gets about 6.5 towing it.
ashtrey05 9 months ago
@bg1379 I get 17 highway and 15 city with my 5.4. 2001 lariat, supercab, 4x4 offroad, towing package, and 170,000 miles.

@shadooky you get that while towing?
ashtrey05 9 months ago

Im diggin your new ecoboost alot though, when are the mods comin'!? waiting on that waranty? haha.
