1) The UN mandate of Gulf War 1 was only to expel Iraq from Kuwait, not about regime change in Iraq.

3) told Bush Sr that it woud have a mission creep and be stuck in a "quagmire" if he invades Baghdad because it would have human and politcal consequences.
When we invaded Iraq in 2003, this is exactly why this "mission creep" happened.

The Shia and Kurds were more than ready to take up the mantle of a free Iraq. That's why Saddam had to gas them afterwards. If we had cut off the Republican Guard from retreating across the Euphrates and destroyed it, Saddam's rule would have deteriorated without a single boot on the ground in Baghdad. Gulf War 1 was a missed opportunity plain and simple.

It doesn't matter whether we destroyed the Iraqi Army or not, Saddam would still have most of the strenght to wipe the rebels out without our support.

One of our teachers at HCHS used to be one of the 500,000 Americans that took part of Operation Desert Storm, his unit captured a anti-aircraft gun in western Kuwait, what was interesting about the gun itself was a part from one of their badly damaged aircraft, they returned it to Saudi Arabia and to the U.S. for studying, it was produced in Communist China in 1986

Iraqi radars were blinded very fast making AA missiles and AA guns useless. Iraqi army had large number but obsolete tanks(apart from T-72) without proper cover from the air .
