Ok, I remember the "safe" ads when I was a kid. There were videos like this, but they would flash to white at the accident and then show a funeral or hospital scene. Well, this should not be banned from teens. This is nothing compared to the intensity and violence of a real accident, and after this they can walk away from their screen and go back to their life and friends. Even if they don't have a cellphone, they need to be aware that others do, and watch for the risks anyway.
ONCE YOU HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT KILLING THOSE INNOCENT LIVES BY PLAYING WITH A CELLPHONE WHILE DRIVING AND YOU WOULD THINK THAT YOU ARE SORRY, WELL THEN,
Exactly. This IS graphic. GOOD. You don't want to crash and die? DON'T TEXT AND DRIVE. You don't want to kill someone else in a crash? DON'T TEXT AND DRIVE. I agree with the director completely... if you're old enough to drive, you're old enough to know what could happen if you're STUPID behind the wheel. I won't get in the car with my friends if I know they text and drive. And I won't let them if I see them. I'll walk home before I let them. PAY ATTENTION TO THIS.
I should find the whole thing and show it to my dad so hopefully he'll finally stop texting and driving. It's pretty sad whenever the teenager is more responsible than the parent....
its illegal in ontario to talk or text while driving it is a130 dollar fine but people still do it and beleive it or not the police are the worst offenders i think they should be setting the example.
I find it hard to believe that there has to be psa's to stop people from texting while driving. It should be instinct that makes you keep your eyes on the road. I could never take my eyes off the road to text, my common sense won't allow it. I'll never understand people's carelessness. So, I guess for all the wreckless morons of the world we need the psa's.
What people need to learn is that harshness is not the right way to teach a minor, unless that teen is a major ass. I am a fan of crude, gorey humor, but many of the idiots watching this video act like texting while driving, even once, is an unspeakable sin, it should be shown to EVERYBODY, and this sheds some light on the matter.
One: THIS IS FAKE. It's a PSA. Deal.
TWO: Most wise people already know what will happen, not all may not need to be shown this video...those that do, f*ck them.
How sad the child lost his parents because stupid teenage girls were texting. That child doesn't have a child seat - how did it survive?
Of course if they crashed and died then they wouldn't be driving while I was on the road. Better them than me. I'm not even allowed to marry or adopt children.
Why can't the Government put a video about this? All they care is what is going on with the economy. I am an american. So The sanate or whatever controls the enviroment is a stupid ass who doesn't care about what's going on with the enviroment.
i watched the video, well, a short version of it, and it showed a baby, with no blood on it, and it was in one of the cars, still in it's chair, eyes wide open, and not moving. it just goes to show you,can kill someone as young as a baby by sending or reading a simple text. if they show me this in high school, i will keep my cell phone in my pocket or my purse, and i wouldn't check for a text or send a text until i was parked in a parking lot, or at my destionation.
@SoRandom98 my civics teacher showed this in our class just as a reminder to be safe on prom weekend...it made 5 of the girls in class cry and 2 guys couldn't watch it...only 2 people in that class still text while driving
honestly if i was shown this in driver's ed i would NEVER want to drive. it not only tells you not to text and drive, but it tells you that there are people who do text and drive and you could be killed by them. so just because you watched it and don't text and drive doesn't mean other people will.
Too all those who say that texting while driving isn't such a big deal need to stop and realize how much they sound like assholes who drink and drive.
Driving and texting is dangerous, and if you think your clever enough to do it and get away with it, your a ticking bomb, the sad thing is, you may take others with you when you go off, just because you own a phone, and think your clever by texting while driving, just means your an asshole, with a stuff everyone attitude, and cares nothing for all the other drivers who you put in danger everytime you think your clever by texing behind the wheel... until it happens to your family.

I agree with Vandrandelik. If you not an idiot and you know what your doing then texting and driving isn't a big deal. Ive seen people who text and drive poorly, mostly women (deal with it you know its true) and their usually the ones who weave in and out of their lanes and swerve in and out of their lanes. I learned to text without looking at my phone, That way I don't have to take my eyes off the road. I Just glance at it instead of paying full attention to it and go back to watching the road.
Question is, why the hell are you texting in the first place? Chances are you're talking about some stupid unimportant shit anyway. No thanks I say make texting illegal with a hefty punishment. I would rather nobody be able to do it than risk being killed by one of these morons who think they can watch two things at once
@OlderG0ds ummmm maybe because I want to? and I don't give a shit if people bitch about it? even if they make texting and driving illegal i'm still gonna do it. I have 5% tint on my truck so cops can't see me using my phone anyway so I they can't do anything about it if they can't see me doing it. I agree it should be illegal if your on a two lane road but if it's a 4 lane highway and there's no one near you then so what? Seriously go bitch to someone who cares.
@iwantanewusernameNOW The minute you get behind the wheel of a car, it becomes your responsibility to drive safely, because your decisions and your actions affect others. I don't know if you are an idiot or a troll, but to not only openly admit that you text while driving, but defend it as well, is a marked characteristic of someone who needs to be taken off the road permanently. You won't have to be seen doing it - we'll see you in the news, in the hospital...or in the morgue.
@iwantanewusernameNOW I hope you drive your self off a mountain road in the middle of nowhere and end up with a broken neck. lawbreakers have no respect for others and deserve no respect, but they can still pull you over if you swerve constantly. secondly, cars are being made to where to jam incoming telecommunication signals.
The 4 minute version should be shown at ALL cinemas before the start of the "featured presentation". The full 30 minute version should be MANDATORY viewing for ALL students taking "Drivers' Ed".
This video is great! It shows just how bad women are at driving, let alone-texting. This video is great because it shows how those of us who cannot text and drive properly will perish...and those who can will continue to do so without the threat of an inexperienced texter. Texting and drvivng is as easy as driving a stick-shift car...idk why people are getting into accidents.....
I watched this is drivers ed today and then afterwards we all signed the oprah no phone zone pledge. After this video I don't think anyone wants to text in the drivers seat (even if it was a bit dramatic)
This is great! It looks very real and hopefully gets the message across. It REALLY makes one think. If you haven't seen the full commercial you need to, it will really wake you up, it's sad and it will certainly make one think when they see the risk of robbing others lives because they cannot wait to text
@myrandomspaces it's considered graphic because they show the blood as well as a fatal accident. Anything that shows a lot of blood and gore like that is considered to be graphic
Teen Driving Accidents Can Be Prevented With More Education From A Teen Driving Safety Course. Let's Keep Our Teen Drivers Safe. Please visit my profile for more information. Thank you.
I am glad he made this video. It is how we can get thru to people. I took the pledge. I turn my phone off when I get in the car. I don't even talk on the phone while driving. I never understood how people could text and drive I can't even text and walk. No joke lol. My daughters life is not worth the risk.
well my mom text while she drives and talks while sh drives i making sure that my phone is off when i start to drive and same wiht talking i wont do it this just makes me wanna cry and smash cell phone
Even though it's gory and a little too real ...... well that's THE POINT, and the point also is some people are so dull they have to SEE what could really happen to WAKE UP. So,... good video idea, extreme yes, but so is a real car crash.
This 1st time I ever watched the video it is talking about I cried and had chills so bad!!! Not because It was too graphic, but because to think it could really happen. Afterwards I sent it to all my friends that text and drive. I'm 19 and ever since I've seen this I don't let me friends text and drive & I have not text and drive.
ok guys really stop bitching lets see how about youtube with adds or no youtube at all complaining wont do anything its what a 15 to 25 sec ad if you cant sit through that you have problems yes its anoying but you need to accept that things like this need to be up here if you want youtube to continue to be free, anyone who complains is an arrogant hipocrite, your discusting
it's not the same as talking to someone in the car you numpty. Passenger's give way in their conversation or monologue when they see the driver has a situation. For example when a mate's pulling out at a roundabout I don't carry on telling a funny tale of a drunken Friday night, I wait a moment, he pulls out then I carry on. Mobile phone callers don't do that. Not rocket science eh.
the thing with ppl who text and drive, is that they try to hide the phone, and they dont look at the road. im guilty of texting and driving, i hold my phone above the wheel and i watch the traffic, not the phone. I'll glance at it, but not focus. And talking on the phone while drive is exactly the same as talking to a person sitting next to you
Lmfao, exactly. Who the fuck looks down at their phone in their lap while they're driving.
I guess we should take radios out of cars, too. And heaven forbid you eat something while driving! Catastrophic! Burn all the drive-throughs and save lives!
Suprisingly, a lot of people are ignorant enough to do so. It's not "lmfao" at all. People are getting killed, families and friends are being devastated, and this video is very realistic. If you're implying that taking your eyes off the road while driving a 2 ton metal car to send a message to your buddy is alright on any level, you obviously need to be kept off the road. If you don't mind me harshing on your over-exaggerated and pretty childish sarcasm towards texting and driving, that is.
I don't mind your response, you didn't insult me directly or anything.
Texting is a distraction eating, changing radio stations, ipods, etc. It's how much attention it takes for people to do them that makes the difference.
Some people can't multitask, others can, and others think they can but can't.
People that take their eyes completely off the road to look at their phone probably fit in the first or last category and the way they showed it in this video deserved an "lmfao" in my opinion.
It's simple. You can eat/change the radio station/ even talk on your cell phone with your eyes on the road. The fact of the matter is, a large majority of people text and drive instead of pulling off the road or waiting for home. When you text, your eyes are off the road and on the screen, and at least one hand is on the keyboard. Most people refuse to have the patience to resist the cell phone, so the simplest way of getting people to keep their eyes off the road is simply to outlaw it.
In my opinion, texting while driving is dangerous, but not enough so to be outlawed.
A lot of people have to look at the radio for a few seconds or more to change a station enough times to find something they like. And many people can text while paying very little attention to their phone. I would never have dreamed of texting and driving my first few years of driving/not being accustomed to texting. But now, the risk is low enough to pursue the activity but not completely gone by a long shot.
@darksaiyajin14 You talk like an imbecile. When you've extracted shattered bodies from RTC's and had to amputate a patient's crushed leg to remove them you can come back on here and apologise to everyone for wasting their time reading your ludicrous comment.
You didn't really provide anything to counter my argument other than say that it was ludicrous.
I said-It's dangerous to text and drive, but depending on your skill/the type of phone you have it is not much more dangerous than most every day tasks people do in their car and the activity should thus be frowned upon but not outlawed.
And in case it was misunderstood, my sarcasm was directed toward the video. It's exaggerated to the point that it's funny in my opinion, but not the subject matter.
@darksaiyajin14 In that case I dont want you operating on me. Saying that this is bad, but not enough to be outlawed. Has the media blown it out of proportion? No. A couple years ago, two teens at my highschool I went to died while texting while driving. A few months ago, a mate of mine was hit on the drivers side of his car because some dumb bitch dropped her phone while texting and reached down to get it. So no, this is a serious thing, and action needs to be taken now.
@darkmoon532 Giving specific examples doesn't make the case stronger in a situation like this. Your argument is that people can get hurt doing it, therefore it must be illegal. If people had always followed ta logic, cars themselves would be illegal. And reaching down to get a dropped phone is not even close to a valid example of the dangers of texting and driving. There are all sorts of things you can drop in a car.
I appreciate your politeness, though. No personal insults. :-p
@darksaiyajin14 No, your right, and I wasn't offended in any way. If anything I respect this intellectual argument. But what I was showing/proving with my post is, it is not an isolated incident thats only happening in downtown cities or large metropolitan areas and can be very dangerous. And with that, if one lady is texting and has the audacity to reach down while driving to grab her phone, let's hope thats not going to get popular among todays youth.
@darksaiyajin14 Oh, and I forgot to comment, because of Youtube 500 char. limit. The point I was making on that part was, if they were that determined to send someone an email, it could happen again. Yes people could drop several things down there. But I dont think it's always a driving factor to cause people to crash. I guess it's whether they think their life and others are worth texting someone "I luv u" or "lol"
I respect your opinion, but disagree with you. I read a study that says texting or talking while driving is just as detrimental to driving as driving drunk. Not to mention, maybe the person texting wont always cause an accident, but could miss avoiding another car who is about the cause the accident. Not to mention, I can't count the amount of times someone texting on their phone has almost hit me. But, I do respect your position.
@Bajistock I can't change the radeo station while driving. I can't eat while driving. I can barely drink my water while driving. So I choose not to do any of these things. I have a 3 year old daughter and if I have her in the car talkin to me and I am trying to do all of that at the same time I will not be consentraiting on the road. Her life is not worth it. I turn my phone off or put it on silent while I am driving.
thank god the U.S is trying to send a bill that stops calls and texts while driving. ITS NOT SAFE PEOPLE! I don't even DRIVE and i know how dangerous crap like that is!
I completely agree with the guy when he says if ur old enough to drive then ur old enough to see that video. In fact they maybe should start showing it ahead of time to kids to get the point across even earlier
There is now a blackberry app available that will allow you to customize an away message, so anyone who texts you while you are driving will receive a message of your choice... Example "driving, get back to you soon"
So... you think that people put a camera in their car and intentionally got into an accident to make this video? And the part at the end when they are talking about it is what... before they filmed it? Are you seroius?
I don't know how to explain this to you any further, they murder people to make PSA's to save lives later, it's common knowledge. And if you thought what I just typed was serious, I wouldn't be surprised if I saw you in your own graphic texting & driving PSA.
Click on the CNN video regarding this particular video -- they interview the teens who made the video and they are very much alive. And the young boy in the video is the director's son. I don't think he would offer him up as a "video sacrifice."

HeadMan12345 2 years ago
it's not the same as talking to someone in the car you numpty.

And talking on the phone while drive is exactly the same as talking to a person sitting next to you
Butter741 2 years ago
Lmfao, exactly. Who the fuck looks down at their phone in their lap while they're driving.
I guess we should take radios out of cars, too. And heaven forbid you eat something while driving! Catastrophic! Burn all the drive-throughs and save lives!
darksaiyajin14 2 years ago
Suprisingly, a lot of people are ignorant enough to do so. It's not "lmfao" at all. People are getting killed, families and friends are being devastated, and this video is very realistic. If you're implying that taking your eyes off the road while driving a 2 ton metal car to send a message to your buddy is alright on any level, you obviously need to be kept off the road. If you don't mind me harshing on your over-exaggerated and pretty childish sarcasm towards texting and driving, that is.
Bajistock 2 years ago
I don't mind your response, you didn't insult me directly or anything.
Texting is a distraction eating, changing radio stations, ipods, etc. It's how much attention it takes for people to do them that makes the difference.
Some people can't multitask, others can, and others think they can but can't.
People that take their eyes completely off the road to look at their phone probably fit in the first or last category and the way they showed it in this video deserved an "lmfao" in my opinion.
darksaiyajin14 2 years ago
It's simple. You can eat/change the radio station/ even talk on your cell phone with your eyes on the road. The fact of the matter is, a large majority of people text and drive instead of pulling off the road or waiting for home. When you text, your eyes are off the road and on the screen, and at least one hand is on the keyboard. Most people refuse to have the patience to resist the cell phone, so the simplest way of getting people to keep their eyes off the road is simply to outlaw it.
Bajistock 2 years ago
on the road*
Bajistock 2 years ago
In my opinion, texting while driving is dangerous, but not enough so to be outlawed.
A lot of people have to look at the radio for a few seconds or more to change a station enough times to find something they like. And many people can text while paying very little attention to their phone. I would never have dreamed of texting and driving my first few years of driving/not being accustomed to texting. But now, the risk is low enough to pursue the activity but not completely gone by a long shot.
darksaiyajin14 2 years ago
@darksaiyajin14 You talk like an imbecile. When you've extracted shattered bodies from RTC's and had to amputate a patient's crushed leg to remove them you can come back on here and apologise to everyone for wasting their time reading your ludicrous comment.
Sunlight70 2 years ago 3
You didn't really provide anything to counter my argument other than say that it was ludicrous.
I said-It's dangerous to text and drive, but depending on your skill/the type of phone you have it is not much more dangerous than most every day tasks people do in their car and the activity should thus be frowned upon but not outlawed.
And in case it was misunderstood, my sarcasm was directed toward the video. It's exaggerated to the point that it's funny in my opinion, but not the subject matter.
darksaiyajin14 2 years ago
And I actually plan on going to med school to become a surgeon after college, so if I come back and say anything, I doubt it will be apologizing.
darksaiyajin14 2 years ago
You'll never make it. They don't let surgeons be distracted.
WoWKoest 2 years ago
You're funny. I guess I'll have a comedian to go to when I crash, burn, and don't graduate. [kind of like the girl in the video]
darksaiyajin14 1 year ago
@darksaiyajin14 In that case I dont want you operating on me. Saying that this is bad, but not enough to be outlawed. Has the media blown it out of proportion? No. A couple years ago, two teens at my highschool I went to died while texting while driving. A few months ago, a mate of mine was hit on the drivers side of his car because some dumb bitch dropped her phone while texting and reached down to get it. So no, this is a serious thing, and action needs to be taken now.
darkmoon532 1 year ago
@darkmoon532 Giving specific examples doesn't make the case stronger in a situation like this. Your argument is that people can get hurt doing it, therefore it must be illegal. If people had always followed ta logic, cars themselves would be illegal. And reaching down to get a dropped phone is not even close to a valid example of the dangers of texting and driving. There are all sorts of things you can drop in a car.
I appreciate your politeness, though. No personal insults. :-p
darksaiyajin14 1 year ago
@darksaiyajin14 No, your right, and I wasn't offended in any way. If anything I respect this intellectual argument. But what I was showing/proving with my post is, it is not an isolated incident thats only happening in downtown cities or large metropolitan areas and can be very dangerous. And with that, if one lady is texting and has the audacity to reach down while driving to grab her phone, let's hope thats not going to get popular among todays youth.
darkmoon532 1 year ago
@darksaiyajin14 Oh, and I forgot to comment, because of Youtube 500 char. limit. The point I was making on that part was, if they were that determined to send someone an email, it could happen again. Yes people could drop several things down there. But I dont think it's always a driving factor to cause people to crash. I guess it's whether they think their life and others are worth texting someone "I luv u" or "lol"
darkmoon532 1 year ago
I respect your opinion, but disagree with you. I read a study that says texting or talking while driving is just as detrimental to driving as driving drunk. Not to mention, maybe the person texting wont always cause an accident, but could miss avoiding another car who is about the cause the accident. Not to mention, I can't count the amount of times someone texting on their phone has almost hit me. But, I do respect your position.
madeindetroit19 1 year ago
Yeah, I definitely see where you're coming from. I'm not really sure if there's a right or wrong answer.
Also, I'm curious as to how they went about doing that study...
darksaiyajin14 1 year ago
@Bajistock I can't change the radeo station while driving. I can't eat while driving. I can barely drink my water while driving. So I choose not to do any of these things. I have a 3 year old daughter and if I have her in the car talkin to me and I am trying to do all of that at the same time I will not be consentraiting on the road. Her life is not worth it. I turn my phone off or put it on silent while I am driving.

tyrellarson 2 years ago
I don't know how to explain this to you any further, they murder people to make PSA's to save lives later, it's common knowledge. And if you thought what I just typed was serious, I wouldn't be surprised if I saw you in your own graphic texting & driving PSA.

Click on the CNN video regarding this particular video -- they interview the teens who made the video and they are very much alive. And the young boy in the video is the director's son. I don't think he would offer him up as a "video sacrifice."
