  • I wish I was a talent searcher so that I could put right where you belong on a professional stage! You simply blew me away. Don't let yourself become discouraged; I know I will see your name in a Broadway playbill someday in the future.

  • that was so gorgeous I can't wait to see you on Broadway :) keep it up!!

  • That was beautiful. You are a fantastic actress, and have a beautiful voice. I'm playing Fantine in my school's production of Les Mis right now (I'm a senior), and I hope I can make my portrayal of Fantine as fantastic as this -- Amazing job :)

  • One word.... WOW!!!!!

  • That was just amazingly beautiful. I wish I could sing even half that good. :C

  • I am speechless right now...oh my goodness. how has this girl NOT been snapped up? unless she has and I'm being ignorant there. WOW- usually it's all emotion and no vocal, or all vocal and no emotion. Laura, this is amazing, you blend the two together SO well and it makes for an incredible performance. the best amateur fantine i have ever seen.

  • @BeauG92 - Thank you so much for such a nice compliment. I am working hard so I can be "snapped up" soon :) Thank you again...

  • Bravo young lady, I'm in complete agreement with David

  • what a wonderful performance, you have an amazing voice. i know that this is from several years ago and i truly hope you're pursuing voice further!

  • You have such an amazing range!

I'm a junior and we're doing Les Mis this year.

I'm not trying out for Fantine, but I am trying out for Eponine.

You are perfect for this role!

    You have amazing talent!

  • Dam girl your good ;)

  • Simply amazing! Kudos! :)

  • One of the best versions I've ever watched :)

  • good singing voice, but nothing about fantine came across though sorry. its just a teenage girl singing a song

  • To the person who called me a troll. You may not speak to me in that regard if you knew who I was in the theater world. In any case, I am entitled to my opinion. This is an average high school performance but someone commented as though she were Bway ready which isnt fair to her. I fully stand behind what I said on costume/makeup: never saw a fancy Fantine before. Ridiculous.

  • Great job! You have a beautiful voice, your pitch is spot-on, and the emotion of the song is convincingly conveyed. Well done!!

  • wow you're amazing, Laura!!!!

  • one of the best covers here on youtube, congratulations (:

    greetings from brazil !

  • Very nice low notes! Full and coloured!

  • I listened to dozens of interpretations of this song, but only yours and Ruthie Henshaw's brought tears to my eyes.

Study the way great singers ennunciate words, giving each word so much meaning. Relax more and let your beautiful vibrant voice float out gently, even sing in a whisper sometimes. The more you can relax and trust your voice, and just concentrate on telling the story, the more you'll find your magnificent natural resonance doing the work for you.

    Be vulnerable sometimes. Live it

  • @gottagit

you are right, my opinion doesnt matter more than anyone elses, including yours. so what makes you think that being rude makes it matter more?

  • Freaking Awesome. This is one of my favorite songs in the world and you did an amazing job with it! You actually brought me to tears. My husband and his friend stopped playing their game to watch your performance. I have a feeling you are someone we will someday see on Broadway!!! Thank you for posting this!

  • Who on earth picked pink for Fantine, a peasant?

And the fancy hairdo? The goal was not to BE pretty but to sound pretty, and this was an okay job but not at all like the comment from edfou5 about you. Average performance.

  • @Cortlandttheaterful you sir are an idiot, and a troll. it's a high school performance, her hair isn't fancy, and her voice is incredible. geez.

  • very good delivery for her age, nice that you didn't copy any stylistic traits that are unique to people like Lea Salonga and so on.

  • Laura - I've been in the concert/theatre business for 38 years, and have seen Les Miz 17 times in three countries.. I've never heard such raw talent with so much potential from such a young person. To soar with such warmth and range and such an innate understanding of the emotions of this song, one of the most challenging pieces there is, tells me that with very little training you could step into the role in a national touring company. I wish you the very best. Bravo, young lady. DAVID

  • @edfou5 - I can not express enough how much I appreciate hearing a comment like that from someone in the business. The role of Fantine is emotional & I am sure that helped me with song. Thank you again for your wonderful words. I wish you & yours Happy holidays...

  • Ari9944

Not sure why there are 12 dislikelikes!! This performance was flawless and powerful.. Such a beautiful, and strong voice. Fantastic and awesome!!!!

  • That's a VARY beautiful voice, and VARY talented!-^-^-

  • Why she did not joined the les miserables in 02? she sounds better than lea and ruthie!!

  • Wow, a lot of power. Great job.

  • That would be an impressive rendition of that song by anyone. That a high school student performed it with such accomplishment is incredible. I assumed she was a professional on Broadway or similar until I read the comments.

  • AMAZING!

  • Wow, Laura! Very impressive...

  • Wow, Laura! Very impressive...

  • @gottagit I was just wondering if you've ever been in professional theatre?

  • I have heard this sung by so many different people and I have to say this is one of the most beautiful versions ever!!! Awesome job, Laura!

  • @dentaldiva2378 Thank you for your very kind words. I appreciate you taking the time to watch & comment.

  • What a voice.

  • Comment removed

  • Now for my real comment. Sounds a bit diva, and the vibrato is a bit much. You also need work on your acting because your gestures seems unnatural and non-genuine. As for you voice, there is something to it. I'm not sure what is, but keep it up!

  • You gave me goosebumps :)

  • I think she is amazing. Gottagit, your a jerk. This is not an easy song.

  • @gottagit

your a jerk. her voice is wonderful. It sounds beautiful. :) and i am a harsh judge generally

  • @happyllama131 suck up

  • @happyllama131 your opinion is worth no more than anyone else-you must be a communist

  • OMG I cannot wait to see your name on a marquee on the Great White Way!

  • I accidentally stumbled across this...A high school? a student performing? Sent chills up my spine and brought tears to my eyes... Laura, this was a genuine privelege to watch and I KNOW I will see your name somewhere, sometime in the future. Looking forward to it. Thank you so very much for sharing this with me.

  • Wow!!

  • beautiful voice, even after hearing lea michele and idena sing it, you sound beautiful, are you majoring in Musical Theater in college?

  • Awesome awesome awesome job.. one of the best high school versions ive heard of this song. you have a long career a head of you.. look forward to seeing you on broadway, maybe you'll get to play fantine in a revival of les miserables. best of luck to you.

  • Wow!

  • Laura, i'm not sure if you know me but i will be a freshman at Sycamore. I know you have already graduated but i have enjoyed watching you in all the shows at the high school and i am excited to start! But let me say your voice is phenomenal!! :) And i know you will go very far having talent like yours. Thank you for sharing this. Great Job! :)

  • I think this is one of the best versions I have ever heard. Your low g flat was beautiful! It would be hard to find a better Fantine than you!!

  • The high notes could use some work....You were a bit off-key after "I dreamed that love would never die," and you corrected yourself fairly quickly, but it was thrown off again by the next lyric that followed those notes. I know this song isn't the easiest to sing, because I sang this in my 8th-grade production of Les Miserables (I am a senior in high school now). But you do an excellent job :)

  • Terrible wannabe-silly quasi operatic attempt-get some vocal lessons and how about taking the time to learn stage skills...mommy and daddy have undoutedly been stroking the ego for 18 years-no real talent, and too much karaoke

  • @gottagit - OUCH!

  • @LKWacksman Honey I listened to you along side Elaine Paige, Ruthie Henshall, and Patti Lupone and I have to say you sang your heart out up there with them. Go you!! You listen to encouragement and constructive criticism. When assholes like this one come around and they will just to tear you down just brush it off and wish them well in their life... something they didnt have the common courtesy to do to you :-) Keep following your dreams you have the talent!!

  • @gottagit Someone sounds a little too aggressive to be anything but jealous. On a normal scale she's great, on a high school scale she's amazing.

  • @Behk when you put your face on you tube you get real critiques, not always the suck up bull sh-t of numbnuts assholes

  • @gottagit seriously. what is your problem, your jerk.

  • @Behk -you are a suck up, she is average and if she can't handle being averaGE SHE NEEDS TO GET THE FUCK OFF YOU TUBE .

  • @gottagit - I don't mind critiques. You are entitled to your opinions & that is why I kept your comment available for all to see. Comment away. However, if you ever use the F-bomb or any other offensive language again, I will report it. That is all...

  • @LKWacksman grow up Wacksman......in the real world of theatre..you'd be kicked to the curb

  • @gottagit sounds to me like she's behaving like more of a "grown up" than you are. She's a High School girl graciously accepting your criticisms and you are a 49 year old man/woman trolling the internet spitting immature insults at a young girl. Hmmm who needs to grow up??

  • @gottagit You're being a bitch. It doesn't matter if she can't sing shit, you still need to show some courtesy.

  • @Infantcide oh yes, it is far better to tell this AVERAGE girl that she is the next Celine Dion....she's no going anywhere except the local community playhouse

  • @gottagit And? What's your point? So she'll go where she'll go. Why do you care where that is anyway?

  • @gottagit well, assuming you're older than she, let's see your talent. most with emotion are taught not to put others down so RUDELY. a show is a show, critique is taken, but you don't need to put this girl down and ruin her dreams. how ironic that this song is about broken dreams. go ahead and comment back on every person who goes against what you say. I think she is wonderful. Not perfect, but very good. you have no right to call her names. name-calling not critique. learn some manners, troll.

  • that was fantastic!

  • she has to wok more on her acting skills....other than that....she's a proo...i strongly recomend her on a lot of musicals....congratulations!!

  • That was so nice!

    What a voice you have

  • hi laura my name is michael i lived and worked in london for 18 years and am a theatre addict an example is ive seen les mis 119 times and miss saigon 117 times .and lots of other shows numerous times i spend a lot of time on youtube looking at amatuer versions of my favorite shows and i would like to say i would like to say you are onje of the best i have heard i think you have an amazing future ahead of you and i for one would be happy to buy a ticket and see you in a show one day good luck

  • @mikmik2103 Thank you for the comment. I hope you will get the chance to purchase that ticket you were speaking of... :)

  • How can you say that. Maybe she could use some vocal coaching to perfect her voice. But for only being at high school and probably having had little training her talent is unbelievable. There are people I hav heard on stage in real productions sing far worse than she did. Excellent job. Amazing. I luv this song.

  • @xNatalie24x - Thank you for your opinion. I do respect anyone's right to voice what they think of my videos. I will say however, I am always trying to improve my technique. Anyway I appreciate your kind words.

  • I am pleasantly surprised by your talent! Amazing.

  • AWFUL!!!! she needs vocal training and learn some stage skills

  • @gottagit for a high school student she is amazing.. stage skills yes need help.. but vocally, it was flawless!

  • great job!!! I will be singing this song this May for a community choir concert doing Broadway! Using this as research with other covers to do this beautiful song justice. One of my favorites! Keep on singing you have a great voice.

  • oh my god. wow.

  • aMAZING!

  • Amazing

  • This is very good. But would it kill you to but some emotion in it. It kinda feels like your just singing it. Cry some, Fantine's life sucks. And watch out for vowels. Other wise good=)

  • Magnificent. I admire how you were able to act a little with it opposed to just sing it straight (and you sang it very, very well too). Bravo :)

  • Nicely done performance! It brought back memories of seeing the broadway version in NYC of Les Miserables. Thanks for the memories!!

  • just.. AWESOME

  • This is OK, but please, there is no letter 'h' at the beginning of the word 'I'.

  • great singer,, not so much on stage acting.

  • Wow.

  • Stunning really.

  • Wow... holy crap. Amazing voice O___O

  • Such a talented young lady!! My mom and I just watched this...we loved it!!! Amazing performance Laura!!

  • Too bad the acoustics and/or recording is terrible. You seem to have a good voice. Get a professional recording.

  • lovely :)

  • Great! Very beautiful sound and a very good performance... you are a good musical performer... congratulation!

  • one of the best I've ever heard- you put a lot of feeling into it!

  • Your amazingg!!

    Only in highschool?

    Keep up the good work.

  • Go Aves!

The vibrato is like Ruthie Henshall.

Prolly one of my fave versions besides Lea's.

    Go Philippines =)

    And GO AVES!

  • actually, you are amazing, i`ve seen fantines in the original production that didn`t sound that good

  • Started slow, but a really strong ending! Keep practicing, you could be the next Lea Salonga (and in my opinion, that is one of the highest compliments I can give).

  • Thank you TJS. Lea Solonga is one of my favorites. I am humbled by the comparison...

  • One word AMAZING!!!!

  • you're amazing and very talented, you must persue a serious musical career!!

  • goosebumps;]

    high school?seriously?NICE!

  • very nicely done.

  • she's amazing

  • HEY LABA!!! It's Rachel I had no clue you were on here!!! Congrats on such great publicity!!! I loved reading all the comments, it cracks me up that some people don't realize that this was in the context of the show...haha, and that they seem to think that Susan Boyle was the first to sing this song...haha...but you sound wonderful. I adore you...and you are a very sweet and talented young lady!

    XOXO

    Rach

  • Comment removed

  • Obviously, you have to sing well, but i think the focus of this song is really about the emotions.....the pain... the anger.......the disappointement.....the life experiences......

anyone with singing training/ talent can sing this song... but its the emotions that makes it great and touching

  • best version i have ever seen, i like this voice

  • AMAZING

  • my god, enough already about Susan Boyle

  • guys keep in mind that Susan Boyle is 47 years old and this girl is probably 17-18. Susan's voice is more mature PLUS she's been singing for longer. maybe in 30 years we can compare the two, but right now it isn't exactly fair.

  • but don't forget that susan had some songs before : (check cry me a river for her)

  • High School production? This kid is amazing. Last note was superb.

  • personally i thought the beginning sounded horrible but i loved it around the middle

  • This is probably the best I've heard out of the singers I've seen on youtube for this song. A strong voice.

  • I know i've commented this before but I just thought of something - you know she's wearing a pink dress and has that hair? it makes her look kind of like Moses's sister from The Prince Of Egypt. XD pretty though

  • That was a wig. A really fucking annoying wig.

  • Really? That is what you are complaining about? Get a life!!

  • I was in the production. I know what in saying. It's not like I'm bashing laura, she's awesome. We just had to go through a series of annoying wigs.

  • Ohh sorry!! I had you wrong!

  • beautiful o.o

  • but the tiger's come at night

  • Amazing voice: i'm in a shock

  • awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!11

  • i cried ö

    pls merry me <33

    so adorable x3

    omg ... goosebumbs and all .. . Beautyfull !!

  • why is everyone typing goosbumbs? wtf. goosebumps.

  • You have that when something is beautifull.. ^^

  • Im pretty sure that he is talking about people misspelling the word "goosebumps", not that he doesn't know what they are.

  • omgomgogmogm 10 STARS i cried

  • considering this is a school production she is pretty damn good!

  • This girl KICKS SUSAN'S ASS....She is a PRO.....you douche bags......idiots

  • not bad, but I think Susan's was better. noticed a couple of (small) weak spots in this one.

  • NOOOOOOOB !!!!

    Noticed..

I noticed that this is one of the best covers ....

Listen again and close you're eyes ;)

    She's a pro !!!!

  • this is better than susan.....but susan is still good.

  • Prolly because Susan never had any sort of vocal training whatsoever CalmRetort..

  • amazing voice

  • beautifull

  • This girl beats the crap out of susan boyle!

  • disagree...she has had years of training and practice, susan boyle has never had any of this, she is amazing and i personally think she still sounds better, i mean thats a personal opinion but still

  • No!

  • Also, She should play her on broadway.

  • I watch this vid every once in a while. I love her voice! I wish I could sing like she could!

  • susan boyle brought a new meaning to this song, amazing

  • Susan's biggest success is that she made people who have never watched claasical repertoire, watch this video Nobody would watch this if it wasn't for Susan.

  • amazing.

  • amazing voice.

  • lilacwine

This girl is only in high school and she's amazing. I'm sure with time she'll just get better.

  • Susan Boyle was much better

  • This is lovely. I wish les mis was still on broadway dang it!

    Wonderful I must say... :)

  • Les Miserables is still in London's west end. Packed out every night, although it has moved from the Palace Theatre to the Queens, which is slightly smaller. This song needs an emotional as well as powerful voice to do it justice, and this young lady certainly has both. Susan Boyle is excellent btw.

  • Yeah! but I'm freaking american! when am I going to make it England?!

    hahaha

    damn it!

Wooo, I would love to see it... ug.

    Merci. :)

  • There's just no better/worse compared w/ Susan Boyle. Both of them are simply awesome. There's soul in the song they sing, and that's all that matters.

  • Thoroughly enjoyed this - she has an awesome voice - I think Susan Boyle sounds more gentle and pure so more people like her as she said she hasn't been kissed before - cool, but I love both performances

  • Just saw Susan Boyle had to see another version. In my opinion Boyle is just as good.

  • Also I must say Laura you have an incredible voice...I hope that you will make your way...greetings from Germany

  • beautiful voice, so powerful!! keep going and work hard!

  • Phenomenal! All the emotion and the meaning and the range and voice.

  • great performance

  • with the possible exception of Judy Kuhn, this is the definitive YouTube I Dreamed a Dream. This young lady has the real goods. The chest sound is spectacular and the blend is just PHENOMENAL singing top to bottom. A very fine interpretive performance as well. HEADS AND TAILS over the others.

  • If the ridiculous furore over Susan Boyle is anything to go by, this girl's got no chance. She looks good,, knows what the song means, sings in tune and has more than 5 notes.........people will hate her.

  • Her voice is harsh and cacaphonic. She does not yet possess the soaring tones of Susan Boyles performance. Again this singer half talks and shouts through her performance. Are you tone deafharry8611?

  • Harry8611 Is right, This girl is way more powerful than susan boyle, I don't know why they're making such a big deal over her, I mean, Susan's a great singer, But there are better people to be honest.

  • Emily I agree with you, there are much better singers out there. But I think that there has been such a fuss made of her just because it was so unexpected.

Its really just a media thing, they blow up like everything.

  • I think you are failing to realize that she's actually putting on performance, in role, while singing the song.

Where as Susan was just singing the song.

I personally like this version better because it's a better overall PERFORMANCE.

  • Absolutely Brilliant! Go through the right channels (education, auditons, contacts, etc) and I thnk you wll go far!

  • No I'm not, but thanks for asking. And as for "soaring tones" its amazing what media hype can get people to hear. Susan Boyle has a handful of good notes in the middle of the voice...everything above that is out of tune, and everything below it is inaudible. The media scrum over her was staged from the beginning and has little to do with her voice. But hey, she's better than Sarah Brightman and people still think *she* can sing...

  • Comment removed

  • wow. you are great!

  • This is sung with amazing maturity for a teenager. Very impressive!! You have a wonderful voice. :-)

  • Great, powerful voice!

Would love to hear you do "A Whole New World" from Aladdin with better sound equipment.

Never been on Idol...? I hope you can find a producer who build your career on that voice of yours.

If you want to pursue a career...Its all about drive now.

Your voice is on par with the latest youtube sensation Sarah Boyle who does this same song.

  • Wacksman,

I miss you. You're wonderful. I want your voice.

    -Lizy LeBlond

  • ive seen this done on youtube countless times and some are good but listening to this is like actually hearing it in the west end. i must have seen les mis in london around 10 times and your voice is exactly like that of the wonderful ladies that play fantine there. good luck although i have a feeling you dont need it ;)

    x

  • Thank you for taking the time to post such a wonderful comment. I too hope to get to London someday to study & perhaps see those ladies myself. Thank you for watching.

  • Wow... all I can say is WOW! high school? you are absolutely amazing! Good Luck with your career!
