I wish I was a talent searcher so that I could put right where you belong on a professional stage! You simply blew me away. Don't let yourself become discouraged; I know I will see your name in a Broadway playbill someday in the future.
That was beautiful. You are a fantastic actress, and have a beautiful voice. I'm playing Fantine in my school's production of Les Mis right now (I'm a senior), and I hope I can make my portrayal of Fantine as fantastic as this -- Amazing job :)
I am speechless right now...oh my goodness. how has this girl NOT been snapped up? unless she has and I'm being ignorant there. WOW- usually it's all emotion and no vocal, or all vocal and no emotion. Laura, this is amazing, you blend the two together SO well and it makes for an incredible performance. the best amateur fantine i have ever seen.
To the person who called me a troll. You may not speak to me in that regard if you knew who I was in the theater world. In any case, I am entitled to my opinion. This is an average high school performance but someone commented as though she were Bway ready which isnt fair to her. I fully stand behind what I said on costume/makeup: never saw a fancy Fantine before. Ridiculous.
I listened to dozens of interpretations of this song, but only yours and Ruthie Henshaw's brought tears to my eyes.
Study the way great singers ennunciate words, giving each word so much meaning. Relax more and let your beautiful vibrant voice float out gently, even sing in a whisper sometimes. The more you can relax and trust your voice, and just concentrate on telling the story, the more you'll find your magnificent natural resonance doing the work for you.
Freaking Awesome. This is one of my favorite songs in the world and you did an amazing job with it! You actually brought me to tears. My husband and his friend stopped playing their game to watch your performance. I have a feeling you are someone we will someday see on Broadway!!! Thank you for posting this!
And the fancy hairdo? The goal was not to BE pretty but to sound pretty, and this was an okay job but not at all like the comment from edfou5 about you. Average performance.
Laura - I've been in the concert/theatre business for 38 years, and have seen Les Miz 17 times in three countries.. I've never heard such raw talent with so much potential from such a young person. To soar with such warmth and range and such an innate understanding of the emotions of this song, one of the most challenging pieces there is, tells me that with very little training you could step into the role in a national touring company. I wish you the very best. Bravo, young lady. DAVID
@edfou5 - I can not express enough how much I appreciate hearing a comment like that from someone in the business. The role of Fantine is emotional & I am sure that helped me with song. Thank you again for your wonderful words. I wish you & yours Happy holidays...
That would be an impressive rendition of that song by anyone. That a high school student performed it with such accomplishment is incredible. I assumed she was a professional on Broadway or similar until I read the comments.
Now for my real comment. Sounds a bit diva, and the vibrato is a bit much. You also need work on your acting because your gestures seems unnatural and non-genuine. As for you voice, there is something to it. I'm not sure what is, but keep it up!
I accidentally stumbled across this...A high school? a student performing? Sent chills up my spine and brought tears to my eyes... Laura, this was a genuine privelege to watch and I KNOW I will see your name somewhere, sometime in the future. Looking forward to it. Thank you so very much for sharing this with me.

Awesome awesome awesome job.. one of the best high school versions ive heard of this song. you have a long career a head of you.. look forward to seeing you on broadway, maybe you'll get to play fantine in a revival of les miserables. best of luck to you.
Laura, i'm not sure if you know me but i will be a freshman at Sycamore. But let me say your voice is phenomenal!! :) And i know you will go very far having talent like yours. Thank you for sharing this. Great Job! :)
The high notes could use some work....You were a bit off-key after "I dreamed that love would never die," and you corrected yourself fairly quickly, but it was thrown off again by the next lyric that followed those notes. @LKWacksman Honey I listened to you along side Elaine Paige, Ruthie Henshall, and Patti Lupone and I have to say you sang your heart out up there with them. Go you!! You listen to encouragement and constructive criticism. When assholes like this one come around and they will just to tear you down just brush it off and wish them well in their life... something they didnt have the common courtesy to do to you :-) Keep following your dreams you have the talent!!
@gottagit - I don't mind critiques. You are entitled to your opinions & that is why I kept your comment available for all to see. Comment away. However, if you ever use the F-bomb or any other offensive language again, I will report it. That is all...
@gottagit sounds to me like she's behaving like more of a "grown up" than you are. She's a High School girl graciously accepting your criticisms and you are a 49 year old man/woman trolling the internet spitting immature insults at a young girl. Hmmm who needs to grow up??
@Infantcide oh yes, it is far better to tell this AVERAGE girl that she is the next Celine Dion....she's no going anywhere except the local community playhouse
@gottagit well, assuming you're older than she, let's see your talent. most with emotion are taught not to put others down so RUDELY. a show is a show, critique is taken, but you don't need to put this girl down and ruin her dreams. how ironic that this song is about broken dreams. go ahead and comment back on every person who goes against what you say. I think she is wonderful. Not perfect, but very good. you have no right to call her names. name-calling not critique. learn some manners, troll.
hi laura my name is michael i lived and worked in london for 18 years and am a theatre addict an example is ive seen les mis 119 times and miss saigon 117 times .and lots of other shows numerous times i spend a lot of time on youtube looking at amatuer versions of my favorite shows and i would like to say i would like to say you are onje of the best i have heard i think you have an amazing future ahead of you and i for one would be happy to buy a ticket and see you in a show one day good luck
How can you say that. Maybe she could use some vocal coaching to perfect her voice. But for only being at high school and probably having had little training her talent is unbelievable. There are people I hav heard on stage in real productions sing far worse than she did. Excellent job. Amazing. I luv this song.
@xNatalie24x - Thank you for your opinion. I do respect anyone's right to voice what they think of my videos. I will say however, I am always trying to improve my technique. Anyway I appreciate your kind words.
great job!!! I will be singing this song this May for a community choir concert doing Broadway! Using this as research with other covers to do this beautiful song justice. One of my favorites! Keep on singing you have a great voice.
This is very good. But would it kill you to but some emotion in it. It kinda feels like your just singing it. Cry some, Fantine's life sucks. And watch out for vowels. Other wise good=)
Started slow, but a really strong ending! Keep practicing, you could be the next Lea Salonga (and in my opinion, that is one of the highest compliments I can give).
HEY LABA!!! It's Rachel I had no clue you were on here!!! Congrats on such great publicity!!! I loved reading all the comments, it cracks me up that some people don't realize that this was in the context of the show...haha, and that they seem to think that Susan Boyle was the first to sing this song...haha...but you sound wonderful. I adore you...and you are a very sweet and talented young lady!
Obviously, you have to sing well, but i think the focus of this song is really about the emotions.....the pain... the anger.......the disappointement.....the life experiences......
anyone with singing training/ talent can sing this song... but its the emotions that makes it great and touching
guys keep in mind that Susan Boyle is 47 years old and this girl is probably 17-18. Susan's voice is more mature PLUS she's been singing for longer. maybe in 30 years we can compare the two, but right now it isn't exactly fair.
I know i've commented this before but I just thought of something - you know she's wearing a pink dress and has that hair? it makes her look kind of like Moses's sister from The Prince Of Egypt. XD pretty though
disagree...she has had years of training and practice, susan boyle has never had any of this, she is amazing and i personally think she still sounds better, i mean thats a personal opinion but still
Susan's biggest success is that she made people who have never watched claasical repertoire, watch this video Nobody would watch this if it wasn't for Susan.
Les Miserables is still in London's west end. Packed out every night, although it has moved from the Palace Theatre to the Queens, which is slightly smaller. This song needs an emotional as well as powerful voice to do it justice, and this young lady certainly has both. Susan Boyle is excellent btw.
There's just no better/worse compared w/ Susan Boyle. Both of them are simply awesome. There's soul in the song they sing, and that's all that matters.
Thoroughly enjoyed this - she has an awesome voice - I think Susan Boyle sounds more gentle and pure so more people like her as she said she hasn't been kissed before - cool, but I love both performances
with the possible exception of Judy Kuhn, this is the definitive YouTube I Dreamed a Dream. This young lady has the real goods. The chest sound is spectacular and the blend is just PHENOMENAL singing top to bottom. A very fine interpretive performance as well. HEADS AND TAILS over the others.
If the ridiculous furore over Susan Boyle is anything to go by, this girl's got no chance. She looks good,, knows what the song means, sings in tune and has more than 5 notes.........people will hate her.
Her voice is harsh and cacaphonic. She does not yet possess the soaring tones of Susan Boyles performance. Again this singer half talks and shouts through her performance. Are you tone deafharry8611?
Harry8611 Is right, This girl is way more powerful than susan boyle, I don't know why they're making such a big deal over her, I mean, Susan's a great singer, But there are better people to be honest.
Emily I agree with you, there are much better singers out there. But I think that there has been such a fuss made of her just because it was so unexpected.
Its really just a media thing, they blow up like everything.
No I'm not, but thanks for asking. And as for "soaring tones" its amazing what media hype can get people to hear. Susan Boyle has a handful of good notes in the middle of the voice...everything above that is out of tune, and everything below it is inaudible. The media scrum over her was staged from the beginning and has little to do with her voice. But hey, she's better than Sarah Brightman and people still think *she* can sing...
ive seen this done on youtube countless times and some are good but listening to this is like actually hearing it in the west end. i must have seen les mis in london around 10 times and your voice is exactly like that of the wonderful ladies that play fantine there. good luck although i have a feeling you dont need it ;)
Thank you for taking the time to post such a wonderful comment. I too hope to get to London someday to study & perhaps see those ladies myself. Thank you for watching.
I wish I was a talent searcher so that I could put right where you belong on a professional stage! You simply blew me away. Don't let yourself become discouraged; I know I will see your name in a Broadway playbill someday in the future.

This is probably the best I've heard out of the singers I've seen on youtube for this song. A strong voice.

I know i've commented this before but I just thought of something - you know she's wearing a pink dress and has that hair? it makes her look kind of like Moses's sister from The Prince Of Egypt. XD pretty though

That was a wig. A really fucking annoying wig.

I was in the production. I know what in saying. It's not like I'm bashing laura, she's awesome. We just had to go through a series of annoying wigs.

Susan's biggest success is that she made people who have never watched claasical repertoire, watch this video Nobody would watch this if it wasn't for Susan.

Wonderful I must say... :)

Les Miserables is still in London's west end. Packed out every night, although it has moved from the Palace Theatre to the Queens, which is slightly smaller. This song needs an emotional as well as powerful voice to do it justice, and this young lady certainly has both. Susan Boyle is excellent btw.
icollins69 2 years ago
Yeah! but I'm freaking american! when am I going to make it England?!
hahaha
damn it!
Wooo, I would love to see it... ug.
Merci. :)
hannah4colbert 2 years ago
There's just no better/worse compared w/ Susan Boyle. Both of them are simply awesome. There's soul in the song they sing, and that's all that matters.
StrikeEagle 2 years ago 4
Thoroughly enjoyed this - she has an awesome voice - I think Susan Boyle sounds more gentle and pure so more people like her as she said she hasn't been kissed before - cool, but I love both performances
Spooksta777 2 years ago
Just saw Susan Boyle had to see another version. In my opinion Boyle is just as good.

great performance
ibkorniel 2 years ago 2
with the possible exception of Judy Kuhn, this is the definitive YouTube I Dreamed a Dream. This young lady has the real goods. The chest sound is spectacular and the blend is just PHENOMENAL singing top to bottom. A very fine interpretive performance as well. HEADS AND TAILS over the others.
divadeb2000 2 years ago 2
If the ridiculous furore over Susan Boyle is anything to go by, this girl's got no chance. She looks good,, knows what the song means, sings in tune and has more than 5 notes.........people will hate her.
harry8611 2 years ago
Her voice is harsh and cacaphonic. She does not yet possess the soaring tones of Susan Boyles performance. Again this singer half talks and shouts through her performance. Are you tone deafharry8611?
mysticmeg111 2 years ago
Harry8611 Is right, This girl is way more powerful than susan boyle, I don't know why they're making such a big deal over her, I mean, Susan's a great singer, But there are better people to be honest.
EmilyPorterOfficial 2 years ago
Emily I agree with you, there are much better singers out there. But I think that there has been such a fuss made of her just because it was so unexpected.
Its really just a media thing, they blow up like everything.
ElenaSweeets 2 years ago
I think you are failing to realize that she's actually putting on performance, in role, while singing the song.
Where as Susan was just singing the song.
I personally like this version better because it's a better overall PERFORMANCE.
tend 2 years ago 3
Absolutely Brilliant! Go through the right channels (education, auditons, contacts, etc) and I thnk you wll go far!
TCUrban 2 years ago
No I'm not, but thanks for asking. And as for "soaring tones" its amazing what media hype can get people to hear. Susan Boyle has a handful of good notes in the middle of the voice...everything above that is out of tune, and everything below it is inaudible. The media scrum over her was staged from the beginning and has little to do with her voice. But hey, she's better than Sarah Brightman and people still think *she* can sing...

Would love to hear you do "A Whole New World" from Aladdin with better sound equipment.
Never been on Idol...? I hope you can find a producer who build your career on that voice of yours.
If you want to pursue a career...Its all about drive now.
Your voice is on par with the latest youtube sensation Sarah Boyle who does this same song.
