If you look closer you'll see there is no gas cap because the tank is not functional. It now houses the electrics that used to be mounted on the sides in those little chrome pods. Original tank is still being used
Sweet! I love what you've done with her. It has that vintage 30's - 40's look and feel ( Indian style) with newer technology. And the hand made parts just add a touch of artistic freedom to the look. I think it has turned out great! A+A+A+ You should make a video of it running so we can hear it run and see it look, if you know hat I mean. Great job!
@Dezerado the 535 already has a fuel pump , has the main tank and a 3/4 tank under the seat already stock, working on the carbs of one right now with 8400 miles on it.
@fatbastard540 If you like different style fenders, exotic looking paint, and motor parts polished, build your own bike and make it that way you fucking hater
Now that is sweet! I wouldn't mind doing my '82 XV920 like that. :)) I had a 535 for a little while, but the engine wasn't in terribly good shape, so I sold it last fall. The 920 is a much better machine overall.
im a novice i never had a bike and i would like to buy as a first bike a virago 535. some guy told me virago its not such a good bike but i want to hear more opinions about it. how do you guys find it? do you thinks it is a good reliable bike? is it good as a first bike? do you think at a better option for a starter? im only intrested in choppers btw. thanks and im waiting for your replys!!!
I've owned an '82 XV920 and an (83?) XV750 fixer-upper I rode for a few years. Both bikes had over 30K miles when I bought them. At the time, I rode/commuted daily, and I also took several 500+ mile trips on both bikes. The older models (pre 1989) had a starter defect. This caused a nasty grinding noise, but even with the defect, the starter still worked. IMHO, the Virago is a great bike, and the 535 would make a fine beginner bike.
@floodinquier minha primeira moto foi uma virago 250, nunca me deixou na estrada e nem me incomodou, só pegar e andar, escolha bem, dúvide de quilometragem baixa, e se conhecer o antigo dono é melhor. valeu
This is awesome. I ran into this video looking up info for that bike since I am about to buy it. I would love to be able to modify my bike in such maner, but I know it would take me probably my whole life time.
Awesome metal working skill's!! And great vision as well. The classic Indian Chiefs are my favorite as far as styling is concerned, and I own a 1994 XV535, so you can imagine how inspiring this video is for me!
You should do a tutorial video on the fender fabrication!! Thanks for the inspiration!
ty for the compliment and yes the color doesn't realy come across in the pics but in real it realy looks nice. As most bike pics, the real thing is always nicer. Color is personal choice, not for everyone, as is styling. No critisism takin . Thanks for your time.
The stocker is fairly tight right now to the swing arm. no room left, besides the shaft drive realy complicates things.would cost too much for a conversion like that
I built a custom out of an 82' XV750, but after seeing the job you did on yours, I may as well throw mine in the garbage. Great job on the tank and fenders!
is the tank functional? if so how did you plumb it into the original tank? i hate having the 2.4 gallon with reserve

did you have to cut the frame at all?
MrNgddgn 11 months ago
@MrNgddgn Just the rear upper section of the frame just behind the rear seat you see. Fender is mounted to the swing arm.

Those fenders are fuckin' WHACK. Also, the final paint job looks no different than the primer. I guess if you like it that's all that matters...
Why the hell didn't you strip and polish all the aluminum? All that trouble and you didn't even polish anything.

Like anything, if it's maintaned properly it lasts. It's old technoligy compared to the 'plug n play' bikes of today thou.

Not exactly my cup of joe as far as the styling goes, but the craftsmanship is second to none.
Great job and keep the rubber down!

Exactly right, imorris, it's not for everyone. Some like deco styling some don't. Thank you for your fair feedback thou.

Amazing. Great lines and personality. I've got problems with the paint. Please take it as constructive criticism, the paint is a let down.
