  • @SacredSocietyAP What do u suggest then?

  • Defragging your computer to speed it up is a waste of time. Defragging will only speed it up by maybe 1%. ~ David Malan, Harvard University computer science professor

  • Will this move any of my documents so that i might not be able to find them?

  • @JordanAndGregShow No, it will not. They will be safe.

  • thanks for the reminder!

  • @jondough7777777 Time to do mine as well :-)

  • I had only 1 percent space left on my computer one tiny white line. I had to delete stuff jut so the defrager could run

  • @KlayyJayy It's a good idea to use Disk Cleanup before Defrag. This will remove temp files off hard drive & create room as well.

  • @KlayyJayy Use Disk Cleanup as well to remove temp files. That will make more room as well :-)

  • yikes i had an ocean of red. cheers dude : )

  • @pcjwss How did you make out?

  • aaaahhhhh the good old fragmentation

  • pretty fresh man thats wassup with the video yea ok coo cool yea

  • @mmawrestlereg Thanks :-)

  • @alphacomputerca yw brah

  • We have gone over the 100,000 mark. Thank you for all the views everyone. ^Jeff

  • does this move/delete my files?

if no then what exactly this does?

    (noob here!)

  • @TheGprs69 It organizes the broken files back together so they can load faster. It does not delete files. Files can have broken pieces all over the hard drive. Defragmenting joins them together on the hard drive so files load quicker.

  • @alphacomputerca does it "move" your files? like from F:/ to C:/ ?

  • @TheGprs69 No. Files stay on the same hard drive they are defragmented on. Just puts the broken file pieces back together again. Added info to files gets placed at next available spot on hard drive. They become split. Defrag reorganizes files on hard drive.

  • @alphacomputerca thanks :)

  • Does this work on SSD harddrives ?

  • @Aciddaggerr Do I need to defragment my Intel® Mainstream Solid-State Drives (using Windows* Disk Defragmenter* or similar program)?

No. SSD devices, unlike traditional HDDs, see no performance benefit from traditional HDD defragmentation tools. Using these tools simply adds unnecessary wear to the SSD. It is recommended that you disable any automatic or scheduled defragmentation utilities for your Intel SSD. From: website .intel.com/support/ssdc/hpssd/sb/CS-029623.htm#5

  • Helpful.. thank you!

  • Lol, my computer is half red :P

  • thanks really helped me dawg

  • thanks for the help :)

  • @deckeroncrack You are welcome :-)

  • lol my computer was like all red

  • @ErrectifiedPeePee mine to ...i did it once and it said it was done ....then it was still red soo i defraged it again ...lol still little bit of red ...this could take all day to get the blue organized files

  • Thx.

  • hey everytime i try this, in the middle of it, its says " could not find macroflash ", or something like that, then it just stops, what the hell do i do ?

  • @THEAuburnFTW Google the error message to see best answers

  • What does this Defrag program really improve on PC??

  • @hadi257 It joins files that have been split apart, making files load faster and better PC performance

  • I love your video.. I am a computer NON-guru.. you made it so easy for me to understand your process... thank you soo much!

  • @nauticalPrincess123 Thanks. Glad I could help. Make sure you let others know if you think it will help them. ~Jeff

  • so i wont lose any important files this way its not like a reformat at all? i wont lose anything vital will i ? and if so how can i prevent that i want to defrag my d drive but i currently have an broken external hard drive so it wont let me back it up obviously would it be ok to defrag with out moving those files from the drive i want to defrag?

  • @1ROSETV Defragging does not cause you to lose files. It reorganizes them on the hard drive. But as a thought, you should be backing your files on the computer some where safe. Either on an external hard drive or online backup. I have benefited from backing up before. Getting your files backed up some where needs to be a priority for you. Wishing you well ~Jeff

  • Thankyou.

  • @spike6819 My pleasure. I am amazed at how many this video has helped. Glad I did it. Thanks ~Jeff

  • What are possible side-effects of this?

  • @eggsaladinthetub None that I know of. Microsoft encourages this as a regular part of your computer maintenance program

  • Thanks. Might sub lol

  • A great big thank you to all my viewers and to those who have commented. I never imagined that this video would help so many. Thanks ~Jeff

  • Very helpful, thank you.

  • @0987654321libra Thanks for the kind words.

  • omg help me my whole bar is blue

    help! help! help!

    please

  • @ritzrtk Just do a defrag and see what happens. Blue is not bad. It's bad when there is lots of red. It just means files are broken or fragmented. How does your computer run?

  • @alphacomputerca it goes pretty good now actually and thanks for helping.

  • @alphacomputerca it goes good as well as it changes its themes from time to time any idea why that happens?

  • what happens if i was using firefox while defragging?

  • @After0Death I always recommend doing Defrag all by itself. Remember that files and folders are being moved around at this time. I usually do a defrag when I step away from computer; like over night for example.

  • my whole bar was almost red :O

  • @aTastyCoookie same here :O

  • thnxs 4 the post ~ but ~ come on ppl ~ xp's file/windows access & arrangement ~ hardware support ~ suxs in comparison w/ the newer incarnations ~ unless 1 enjoys using the oldest of products for miser's sake ~ performance & stablitiy ? ~ haven't noticed any difference & may the bettr OS ~ I say ~

  • @TJae1 I agree. I am loving Windows 7 right now. I find it hard to switch back to using XP. Yet many are still staying there and they need as much help as I can give them when I have the time. It's funny, the video views keep on going up. I still don't understand that. But if it helps people, I am all for it. Thanks for commenting. ~Jeff

  • @alphacomputerca ~ yeah ~ that's what I told some1 about my comments ~ about "christo-fakes & cults" ~ wish they felt they same ~ helping ppl

  • thank you :)

  • i had like 5inces long or more of red it was horrible is BLUE ok cuzmy whole ing is full of BLUE ??????

  • @pootn Blue is good. If you defrag once a month or so, you will keep with the blue ~Jeff

  • yes this is good :D

  • @bobi447 Thank you ~Jeff

  • my red bar is an inch thick, solid! thanks on the info, it helped. didn have any problems with the defreag on XP.

  • @LYinKansas Good to hear ~Jeff

  • I'd recommend using PerfectDisk. It's much better than any built-in Windows defrag people!

  • @4543563 Many are. But most people will not spend to get them. They are where they are at. Thanks for the recommend. Some will see and check it out. ~Jeff

  • @4543563 Yea perfect disc rocks and can defrag at boot time as well.

  • Hell yeah. It's even easier to get it through Torrent... =).

  • safe mode? is it ok!? cuz my computer is too laggy! and i got a bunch of red!:(

  • Sounds like it's time for a new one @enzkie044 Here's some thoughts. First do a disk cleanup to remove temporary files off your hard drive. If they are not there, they will not matter in a defrag. Then run defrag in regular mode. Not much advantage to running in Safe Mode for this. If other programs hinder, suspend them for the moment.

  • Thanks everyone for helping each other out. It is helping a lot of people. ~Jeff

  • damn whenever i try doing it my comp screen just turns all blue

  • @ColdSlushee It's Called a Blue Screen Of Death, or BSoD. This happens when the processor become "overwhelmed". to fix this error, close all open programs. The open, and defrag your disk drive. Also, check to see you have 1.00GB RAM or higher, as this may cause the problem.

    Hope this helps!

  • @Badlyfar Helped thanks and my cousin calls it blue screen of death lol thank you

  • LOL i got all red and a bunch of green lmao

  • try to format your hard drive time to time it will boost your pc :P

  • if i defrag will it delete any files? and will it boost any games?

  • It will organize files and folders only @xVLADx45 Should give impression of faster computer

  • @alphacomputerca Can't you just click on start, click on run, then type in DEFRAG C:?

  • In Windows Vista and Windows 7 @airrifleguy you can type "Defrag" in the search box to find program to click on to start. I am not sure about the Windows XP run command.

  • lol i did it and all my defragment files was red ;)

  • were not stupid

  • Do you need to reboot your PC

  • It is always best @TheCoolgamer999 to reboot your computer after a disk defrag. Best practice ~Jeff

  • @TheCoolgamer999 Good idea to reboot to start fresh. It's not mandatory that you do so, but a good idea

  • Thanks man, you just gave me 15 GB of space back! This computer is kind of old, and now it runs like new!

  • Reds are the computers way of letting you know what is happening. As you use your computer, files get split up; making things slower. When you defrag, you join broken-split files and things work faster so to speak. Some reds remain, but over time and more defrags, things get better.

  • How do you get reds in the first place? I have alot of red compared to blue and green, and i've only used 12%.

BTW very little red was removed in the estimate, and some reds seem to have been added?

  • hi, i've got a problem. when i tried doing this last night i only had 3% space so i did the disk clean up and so i tried doing this again just now but i've only 14% space when it needs 15% to run... what should i do? should i run another disk clean up?

  • It won't hurt to run disk cleanup again @ruizuJEaddict You might look at removing something on the hard drive that you are not using; for example, an old program or files you have not used in a while. Put old files on a DVD for example to get more space to defrag. ~Jeff

  • hi um i got a problem i only got 11% of free space n its asking me for 15% wut can i do to do des i have all kinds of red like alot

  • Here's a trick @anubes1 that might free up some space. First do a Disk CLeanup. This should remove excess temporary files. Then do a Disk Defrag. See if that will help you. Do them in the order I suggest.

  • thank you :)))

  • Disk Defrag is a "free" program on your computer. You access it by clicking on the Start button. Then you go to Accessories, then System Tools and then finally to Disk Defrag. You can do this :-)

  • everytime i try this it goes onto something called HDD rescue n i have to pay like £30 for it but i cant (im only 12 lol) what do i do?

  • My computer says critical error and I did what this vid told me to do and its been about 45 min and nothing yet :(

  • @stickmedia1 my comp keeps on sayin critical error and its really pissing me

  • @celv1 Also if you see an error number, copy and paste it into Google or write it down and place it in Google. You may find your answer there as well.

  • @stickmedia1 Try to restart computer and see what it says. You may end up having to have a computer tech look at it to advise you.

  • is a capacity of 32.27 gb and free space of 21.43 good? 57%?

  • @SHinfan Yes % is good

  • is 44% of free space good?

  • @gmp9626 44% is good also

  • I try to get back to your comments as quick as I can. Sometimes I don't get back as fast as I would like to. With this said, I appreciate the help of others who step in as well. Thanks everyone.

  • thanks :)

  • You are welcome @emmerised Lots of people enjoying this video :-) Jeff

  • my capacity is 190gb

    free space 152 gb.

    free space % 80

    is that good?

  • 80% free space is good @noobysad Lots of room to work

  • Doing it now. Wouldn't need to do this if I had a mac. :/ Great, simple video by the way.

  • Thank you very much for this video it really help me defrag my pc thanks a lot have a great life :D

  • Make sure @MrDarekx12 that you defrag once a month to keep things running smooth. Don't forget Disk Cleanup as well.

  • Currently on 3% :P should help with my computer, craplaod of red, from normal and game files.Damn steam auto-installed cod multiplayer, when i dont even play fps games!Bt thanks, cant wait to run Napoleon: Total war more smoothely!

  • Make sure you clean out temp files before defrag @Varyalover No sense in ordering garbage with the good stuff. This will make lots more room. Use Disk Cleanup or CCleaner to remove temp files.

  • plzzzz... answer to me fast..... why i dont have any a accesories????

  • @f4nt0ma You may have deleted them by mistake? You can start programs using the "Run" command to get to what you need as well.

  • hey! how can i remove all reds ??? after i defrag my drive C, not all reds are gone.. how can i remove all redss ??? plsss............

  • @archiemutoc Sometimes, all reds do not go. Sometimes red can remain. I would not worry about this. The big thing to remember is, that overall, your computer is better for defragging.

  • hey! how can i remove all reds ?? after i defrag my drive C, not all reds are gone .. how can i remove it all ??

  • Sometimes some red remains @archiemutoc Overall, there should be a big change in the amount of red lines. Not worry about a small mount of red. Try again in a week's time and see what happens. Sometimes I have a few red left. As long as most are gone, I know that the defrag has done it's job.

  • alphacomputerca you are quite good at this

  • Thanks for the compliment @neoMushroom You do get good after a while of this. I guess my skill is showing people how to do things. I make the complicated, simple :-)

  • I tried degragmenting while watching this video..It took about 1/2 an hour, but its worthwhile. My comp is way faster than before. Thanks for sharing!!

  • You are welcome @deshaditi You should run the defrag on your computer all by itself. Glad you had great results.

  • thanks

  • @TK4240 You are most welcome.

  • LOL! my computer looked like a christmas tree

  • @noah123260 Time to get the red out and everything in it's right place :-)

  • @noah123260 I trust you went back to more blue, green and white :-) The red is all gone.

  • I have a ton of blue medium amount of green and red and a small amount of white

  • @Rickycooke1gmail Looks like you are getting full

  • i have lots of red :(

  • @dotakingist Time to get at it :-) It really will make a difference if you have not done it yet.

  • wow i subbed dude :D nice

  • Thanks!:DDD

  • thank you

  • mines not there

  • Hi Stefan @Stefan777x Let me know some more information. Are you using WIndows XP for your computer Operating System? If so, click Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools and you should see Disk Defragmenter. Please let me know if this answers question. Jeff

  • @alphacomputerca How big is your real hard drive (Just interested) I see your xp comp is a virtual pc. and 60 gb in size so it must be a decent size...

  • @Stefan777x Which version of Windows are you using?

  • subscribe excessvidz

  • lol my line with the blue red and green looks like it got shot 40 tiimes lmao

  • @shinyfuzzy Once you do a defrag, you will enjoy the smoother and quicker access to files and such :-)

  • thanks very much :)

  • @icefrost74 You are very welcome :-)

  • mine won't defrag. !! it just says that it couldn't :( Do you know why ? ( it's an Xp. NTFs , or something like that) Laptop is toshiba sattelite. Thnx

  • Check out my video on Chkdsk @cooldesertknight This might be of help.

  • Hi! I'm Jash! I always like to have a perfect knowledge before i do something new!

Can you plz tell me what is defrag? OR What is defragment? Why do we defrag our hard disk? What does it do to my hard disk?

  • Hi Jash @neojash Defragmentation will not hurt your hard drive. It will put broken file pieces together for quicker loads of files and programs. Go to my alphacomputer.ca website Computer_Maintenance page for more details.

  • I was using Virtual PC with Windows Vista @xsunwukongx Now I can do this with WIndows 7 Professional

  • i fucking love you <3

  • @lolfag01 I love it when good things happen to a computer that needs to be whipped into shape. It's great helping people get up and running again with a faster machine. Thanks.

  • hey ive tried to defrag in that same place in the vid but it says

run chkdsk or sumthin like that plz help me out kus i need to defrag my comp

  • Look for my video on run chkdsk @Bestever2Pac You should be able to find it with the rest of my videos. It will show you what to do to proceed ahead. Let me know how you make out :-)

  • I had maaaany red files parts, most of them are gone now, but i didnt see any difference in speed performance, and i noticed that there are a bunch of files, SQM files lieing around on my local disk (C) i dont even know what they do, were they created along with the defragmentation? as well as another fie with random letters as its name :(

  • SQM - Windows Live Messenger Log File (Microsoft Corporation) @Gennady100 They were not created by defrag. Did you do a disk cleanup before doing a defrag. Temp files build up that just sit on hard drive. Removing them using "Disk Cleanup" will make more room on hard drive.

  • @alphacomputerca how do i do disk cleanup? and will it remove things that i might want?

  • @Gennady100 Click Start>>All Programs>>Accessories>>System Tools>>Disk Cleanup. When you are given options for files to clean out, you will see that most are temporary files and safe to remove. I also like CCleaner for removing temp files.

  • @alphacomputerca Ok thanks so much :)

  • I'm definetely going to do this, but i would lik to ask a question. Will this literally move my things around? for example might i find something that was on my desktop, later in my documents, or in program files?

  • Defragging will not change any file or folder locations in your file and folder system at all @Gennady100 It will join broken pieces together for faster loading, which is good.

  • @alphacomputerca Ok then, thanks! I'm going to do it now :D

  • The defragmentation menu in XP is alot better than the one you get in Vista.

  • The defrag menu for WIndows 7@Polyunki is not that much better either. Works great though.

  • @alphacomputerca It's a shame they've taken out all the detailed onscreen information, it wasn't like it was hard to understand.

  • I liked it too @Polyunki Maybe in the next Operating System :-) It's funny, people really liked the XP defrag. Microsoft should have left it.

  • omg ur computer has so little stuff

  • I always try to have lots of room on my hard drive @DarkerKamz to keep it running fast. I change computers quite often to keep up with changing tech.

  • is there any risks of doing this?

  • Microsoft put it in the OS package and they tell you to do it on a regular basis @XMs4LifeX The only thing I tell people is to do a defrag all by itself. I don't run other programs when I defrag.

  • Comment removed

  • I have had to stop it before @lyn800 Just make sure you do a complete one when you can.

  • what does disk defrag do to your computer details plz:)

  • Disk defrag helps join broken file fragments together. @blakethall It does not create folders or new files. This will make the defragmented file load faster, giving a faster running machine appearance.

  • @alphacomputerca Thnx for your help i defragd and made my computer faster :D

  • what happends when I defrag?

  • @arre504 Think of it as putting broken files pieces together so that they can be accessed by your computer faster.

  • Please help.. I Can't defrag my disk. When i press "defragment" it says this:

Disck Defragmenter has detected that Chkdsk is scheduled to run on the voulme:(D:) Please run Chkdsk /f. Help me pls:(

  • @kegartel I created a video just for that situation. Check the list of my videos and look for the one talking about Chkdsk. It will help you.
